:goodpost: Backyard breeders aren't necessarily breeding dogs in their back yards. Many have darling nurseries in their home and treat their dogs extremely well. All backyard breeders have one thing in common. They are breeding pet quality dogs who are not good representatives of the breed standard. Here is a good comparison between backyard and reputable breeders: Backyard Breeder vs. Reputable Breeder |

misinformation It is not true that only if you produce a certain # of litters that AKC will check you out and prehaps have your dogs DNA'd - while it is more likely to happen if you produce more than 7 it can happen with as few as 2 - About the DNA test - it would be STUPID beyond belief for a breeder -either large or small that would do any of the above mentioned deals to register a litter or puppy that is not truly eligible - you see , it could happen that i suppose that one will get away with it but the customer that buys a puppy may decide to have it DNA'd for a large variety of reasons and that will open a can of worms that you would not believe -- I personally bought a pair of dogs from a supposedly reputable breeder ( since this event we all know she is not and she has been discussed on this forum in great detail - name given privately on request as i have no intention of turning this thread over to that again ) and when my first litter was born i decided to keep a male , which i had DNA'd - guess what- the dogs i bought and paid big money for were not possibly what their papers said - The breeder i bought from had to have every dog ( about 40 ) that she showed and bred etc dna's again and was suspended from AKC for years over this matter - So before any of you get the idea that there is a way around it - well maybe so but only for a while as you can be sure that when you do wrong someday it will come back to haunt you and bite you right in the butt - is your reputation and good name worth the sale of one puppy or doing dishonest dealings - so i would say that most sincere breeders out here are doing right - of course i can only speak for my self and if the world has disentegerated to the point that only dishonest people are out there breeding our beloved Yorkies - then i am honestly glad this is my last year and i will be riding off into the sunset in my motorhome with some of my darlings when i retire this year - Thanks to all that i have dealt with over the years and Trust the breeder you are dealing with or don't deal with them - there are lots of good honest and caring people out there - just search for them but also remember they play by the rules and that cost money so don't expect to get a quality AKC baby for nothing . ok enough of my spouting off :D:D:D |
It just go to show you that even those so called good breeder are not any better then some of the others. I guess you, just love what you got! Does not matter as long as you are happy with what you got!! |

confussed I am just meaning that may be we should all just love the dogs that we have and not worry about if they are registered or not!! To me there is not differents between the APRI and those people that will only give you limited registration for there dogs! Not worth the paper it is written on!! Does it come down to they are not up to standard right?!? |

I didn't' register Joey because that would make him more valuable, he's already priceless. I registered Joey to show my support for the AKC and what they are trying to achieve. But I agree, its not papers that make a dog valuable, it's finding a reputable breeder who cares about producing healthy yorkies who look and act like yorkies. People shouldn't buy a dog because they feel that a certain kind is more prestigious or valuable or has more status, that's what cars are for! :D |

APRI is one of the most excellent registries I have ever delt with. They do require a 3 generation pedigree before they will register any dog and most of the dogs are dual registered with AKC and trace back to AKC stud books. There is no reason to dis APRI, they are running an honest business and making very little money where AKC fees have went thru the roof. Get an APRI dog and order a pedigree and you will probably see many AKC dogs in the line. So what's the difference??? A piece of paper! Sure don't make any difference in the dog! |
