♥ I thought that I might be overly protective, but I guess not! ♥ Today, I brought my 3 kids and Missy to a busy park. I feel bad always holding Missy in my arms so I figured that I'd put her down for a bit and walk her around. Because this park is so busy, everyone keeps their dog on a leash. I figured it should be safe, but NOPE! I only had her down on the grass for maybe 30 seconds when a Boxer charged at Missy growling at her (the owner was not holding the leash very tight and dropped it). So, I have this Boxer chasing Missy around at my feet trying to grab her and Missy is so frantic about trying to get away from it that I couldn't get my hands on her. All she was worried about was deeking and dodging the Boxer. Then I remembered reading a post on YT where someone had the same situation and just yanked their Yorkie up off the ground by the leash and harness. *Just* as the boxer was going to grab Missy I yanked her up into the safety of my arms. The owners didn't make ONE attempt during this entire time to stop or restrain their dog. They didn't even tell the dog "No". They were a young couple and they just stood and watched what was going on. After I picked Missy up I stood there looking at them like *well, are you going to grab your dog or what*, so the girl comes and grabs the dog leash and says to her dog right in front of my kids and I, "well that would have been a tasty snack hey?" and she pats her dog on the head! I was SOOOOOOO angry. As she was walking away, I had to approach and tell her how rude it was. I said, "you should have been apologizing to me for what just happened, not making a rude comment like that!". To which she replied, "well, I thought it was funny". I said, "well that explains why your dog just behaved that way". It's really, really frustrating to me that I can't let my dog walk on her own 4 feet anywhere that is a public area. It's just not safe! How is she suppose to get exercise and have fun when she is always so restricted? How do you guys do it? I see some people walking their tiny dogs without a care in the world. Is it just Missy that looks like a tasty treat to other dogs? I am so afraid that something is going to happen to her. :( Thanks for letting me vent. |
..................and that is the reason I stay out of the dog parks! People are just rude, stupid and irresponsible! |
How frustrating. :( Sorry that happened to you. |
That is just so incredibly, unbelievably rude. What is up with people like that? You have every right to be able to take your pup for a walk at the park and not have to worry about you or Missy being harassed. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm glad you said something to that lady. It probably doesn't matter to her too much hearing the way she first responded, but I still think it's something that needed to be said *applause* |

sorry about that happening. SO glad she had a harness on..couldn't have saftly done it with a stupid collar... so glad she is ok.... have a glass of wine and try to relax....God Bless. Sharon |
What a close call! I'm so glad Missy wasn't injured. There are some real idiots at the dog park. Come to think of it, there are some real idiots in my neighborhood! I will never understand why owners of large dogs allow their dogs to drag them over to Lady and I while I am walking her believing we would actually like to "meet" their dog. |
Im very overprotective over my boy as well. he'll go up to any dog and jump on them and give them kisses. its cute sometimes but it scares me as well because theres always the possibility of a dog biting him. im also veryy protective of him while he is around young children. they play to rough with him and it is too easy for them to step on him and hurt him. i hope your pooch is okay!! she looks like a sweetie |
Argh, how awful! I have had a couple experiences like that, but the owners of the big dogs do not stand by and laugh while their dog terrorizes mine. :( Thor is really tiny and I believe Missy is about half is size, so she must be microscopic. People do laugh at Thor sometimes, but it's generally in a friendly way. Latest comment I got - "does he run on batteries?" I am glad you said something too, maybe the girl will think later about how "funny" it would be if her dog bit someone. I do think it's really important that Thor gets outside and gets exercise, so we go to a lot of different parks, not necessarily "dog parks" per se. Usually I get a feel for how safe the park is. Sometimes the terrain is just too rugged for Thor. Even really tall grass can be hard for him. Maybe if you look around, you'll find some better spots. The great thing about small ones is they don't need much room to have fun. I take Thor to a baseball field every so often and he has a ball. Other parks I take him to have a lot of room, and I'm just careful to keep him away from any big dogs that are running around. |
I would have bit the girl |
I'm very glad your baby is ok. I'm also very glad that you said something. If someone is going to be rude to you upfront, then you have every right to say what you feel. You said what you wanted but still kept your cool. If that were me I probably would have thrown in a few expletives. LOL Also there should be a small dog only section of your park, or maybe another park nearby where you live. Ask around, that would be safer. : ) |
