So glad your pup is ok. People are so inconsiderate. I don't know what I would have done if someone said my dog would make a tasty snack. And no you are not over protective, you are just looking out for your pup. People always comment and laugh about me carrying Laya around all the time and she is almost 9 lbs. But she is still a small dog and all it takes is one big dog and it could be over for her. I use her stroller a lot for that very reason. Then they really laugh, but I don't care. I know she is safer in there. I have heard so many stories about run ins with big dogs. It's like come on people, control your dog!!!! |
One other thing I do is keep an eye out for dogs generally when I have Thor out. If they are giving Thor The Look, I'll pick him up, even if they are leashed. I do take Thor out quite a bit, and as a smaller dog, he gets away with a lot more. Maybe just take Missy out for leashed walks in your neighborhood to start? |
I don't know why it still amazes me when I read stories like this, I just can't believe there are people that are fellow animal lovers that act like that. :thumbdown I'm very glad to hear that you were able to avoid your baby getting any injuries |
That is SO incredibly rude. What a dumb owner. I've never encountered such people as of yet and every dog (except one... who attacked Jackson in his own backyard!) has been extremely good with Jackson and he loves them. I dog-sit for two Boxers and the youngest male, who is 4 years old, has always been like that towards other dogs. He just hates other dogs even though he's a sweetheart in the house. Well, the owner told me jokingly once, "My dog would eat your dog for a snack!" But he was completely kidding, I love this guy and he would never truly want anything to happen to Jackson, he's a big animal lover. But in a situation like you're describing, that is just sooo rude. |
Our neighbors daughter was visiting and her little Chihuahua came running on attack mode at our Big Yellow Lab. As she scooped him up my hubby says "our dog poops bigger then her!" That wasn't nice now was it! ;) Leashes are required in parks for a reason. That could have been a very bad situation. I am glad you were able to save her and they certainly owned you an apology. |
Omggggg!!!! I am SO glad you said something to her...what a total jerk!! I agree with the other poster who said these types of rejects say things to make themselves feel more powerful. I also can't believe people have laughed at your Missy!! What's up with that!? I know people have much opinion of dressing dogs but I have not run into any one criticizing how I dress Snickers. Thankfully I always get people awwwing and ooooing over him. I have heard that DUMB comment about how Snick would make a snack for other big dogs...Snick is 3.3lbs...I just smile and try not to come off overly sensitive and am able to take a joke..but I'm NOT LAUGHING!!!!:( The other day while I was walking Snick in our neighborhood, this one guy looked at Snick and said...."Nice Hamster." I didn't say anything back in the case I see him again, but I wanted to punch him in the face...I don't know what came over me...but then again Snick is like my child so now I know how Mom's feel when their kids get snubbed. You have every right to feel and say what you did!! I am proud of you! Snick & Viv |

I'm glad you got Missy out of the way in time!~ Last week we were at the park for my son's 6th birthday party. We brought Curly along and had her on leash under the tree where we had our picnic. I had her leash tied on a post by me so she could play next to me while I strung up the pinata. Along comes this man with a kid about 1 yr old or so. Toddling along right up to Curly. Curly is WAY friendly and wants everyones attention so she runs toward him, as far as the leash allows. The toddler grabbed her by the throat and picked her up!!! It all happened so fast and the dad stood there cracking up. I grabbed the kids arm and jerked Curly away from him. The kid started bawling and the man yelled at ME! WTF??? YOUR kid nearly killed my dog!!! People are idiots! |

yeah I agree. If Curly had been a pit or a rottie, I'm sure the dad wouldn't be laughing if his kid got bit! Sometime people are irresponsible with their fur kids AND their skin kids! Curly was ok though???? By the throat OMG! |
That's exactly what I call them too Shauna! Space invaders! And no, I didn't blame the baby, he's just a curious tot but his father needs an a$$ whoopin! |

I am so very glad your baby was not hurt! That was way too close of a call. I am seriously thinking of buying doggie mace to carry around each I take Suzi out for a walk. I bet you anything the owner of the boxer would not be joking , if her dog had been maced! Sometimes the best offense is the best defense. In this case it would of been justified. You have every reason in the world to be protective of your dog, and she was certainly in a very bad situation ! the owners didn't even care:thumbdown |
