What would you do with these floppy ears? Yes, I've read all of the threads about ears. I just wanted to get opinions on what everyone else would do (or has done) in my situation. Lilah is almost ten weeks. We shaved her ears yesterday. Should I tape them too? Or just wait it out a while longer? I don't want to push it but I also don't want to miss the opportunity for her ears to stand and then it's too late. So, did you shave your Yorkie's ears? How long till they stood after that? Did you tape? At what age? I guess I'm just looking for everyone's stories regarding the ears standing. I HAVE read all of the 'ear' threads and the stickys on how to get them to stand. TIA! |
3 Attachment(s) I didn't do it anything, I like him floppy or standing! ;) hehe. They eventually did stand though by themselves (well... not totally, he went to the groomer and she shaved the tips) and that was at about 4 months of age. They've been standing ever since. First pic - 4 months old, after first grooming, this is what they did for a few days... Second pic -they're like this all the time now at 7mo. hehe :) Third pic - Him at 9 weeks old, aww, those floppy ears |
If they are floppy and you want them to stand then it's time for the tape.:aimeeyork |
Thanks for the answer, Brittany!! So how long after the grooming did they stand? Immediately? A week later? A day later? Just curious. I surely don't want to push it. My husband keeps saying, "They'll stand on their own!!! Her parents' ears did!" But still... I'm just a freak! :D |

I'm so confused! |
They won't all stand on their own. I've got two floppy eared yorkies. Of course, we tried taping Ginger's, but it didn't last. They'd stay up for a day or two then fall... |
10 weeks of age is just too young for them to be standing. Some do, but the majority won't start until at least 12-14 weeks. And even then it's not all the time, as they usually droop some during teething. Yogi is 10 months old and his are just now consistantly up. You've got plenty of time, just keep the tips free from the weight of her hair and she should be fine. |

2 Attachment(s) I did not tape Pebbles ears. The first time they drooped I shaved them and with in 2 days they were up. Then one ear drooped again and I shaved the tip and waited and this time it did not go up I waited 2 weeks then shaved again and got ready to tape, but could not bring myself to do it, then the very next morning she woke up and the ear was up and it has been up for 4 days now, strait up! no droop. Also with Pebbles when she woke in the morning most times it would be up but about 3 hours later and it would start to droop. Pebbles is now 4 1/2 months old. So like a lot of people say they go up and down a lot when there teething, so be patient and keep them shaved and I think they will go up on there own like Pebbles seems to be. Edie has upright ears, but i wouldn't care either way. |
I didn't do anything with Coco's ears. They are floppy. I didn't know anything about taping when she was little. I got her when she was about 4 months. She is now 1 year so I guess they will be floppy. I asked her vet and was told that is genetic. I think she looks cute though;) |

Thanks, everyone!! And believe me, it's really not a huge deal whether they stand or not. I think it's cute either way with a preference towards standing. But obviously I'm going to love her to pieces no matter what!! Thanks again! |
when i got timba... i didnt really care if his ears stood up or they were floppy..... i fell in love with him cause he was so darn cute... and yes his ears are floppy ...and i wouldnt change a thing about him... love my lil guy so much... |
I didn't do anything to Roxy's ears, didn't even shave them. They came up on their own at about 3-4 mo old. First one ear, then the other about 1-2 wks later. Once they were up, they never drooped. She's got great ears. |
Our little Dudley that we will be getting in a few weeks has one that stands and one that flops. The groomer told me not to worry because it would stand after he is through teething. ???? |
I meant breeder not groomer. lol!!!! Its late. |

I got my Krystal at 8 weeks and the breeder had them taped when we went to view them and the parents. She took the tape off and the ears stood. But a couple of days later, they had drooped again. I taped them up again, but like bows in the hair, she could get them off quickly. I taped them three times total and they stayed up on their own. I wouldn't worry about taping the ears, they can "untape" them quicker that we tape them(not much fun with the little wiggle worms;)) |
Why are most Yorkie owners on here desperate for there Pups ears to stand up:confused: I dont understand it. At 10wks it is far to soon for ears to stand up. You need to be patient, they will stand up on there own. When Mika's ears stood up I was really disappointed:( I much preferred them floppy:), they were so cute. Let them be babies, there ears will stand up when they are ready to.:) |
I dont really like the straight and pointy ears ;) I like them floppy :) |
Omygosh, I think the floppy ears are adorable! :D |
You are right about Coco, she is cute just the way she is. |
I brought Suzi home when she was going on 9 weeks old. Her ears were floppy and they were so cute. I did not even think anything about them. However, I joined YT the same evening I brought Suzi home, and noticed most puppies had erect ears. Then I wondered about Suzi's. Just wondered. I did not do anything at all about them until all her vaccines were completed , and it was safe that she could have a professional groom. By then she was at least 5 month old, I beleive. The groomer did the standard trim on the ears , and presto! Her ears were up ! Ever since then she has had them up ! Suzi still looked darling with them down too, I was amazed how fast they came up after her first groom , I wasn't expecting it :) |
My little guy is going to be 1 yrs old next month and his ears are still floppy. Its funny because all all the pups in his litter don't have floppy ears just him. I think the floppy ears make the adult yorkies look like puppies still:D! At this point if they stand it doesn't matter cause i love him anyway! |
Ears? Carlie's ears both stood up until she was one (April 27). Three days later, one down one up..........she was groomed on Monday (May 25) clean little ears still one down one up. I have also noticed she is showing some major personality changes. She is a feisty little thing. Really showing her big girl panties towards Rocky. Difficult to walk, she used to walk on a leash. Now she sits and looks at me like forget it, I am not moving.:confused: I dont really care if one is up or down I just would like to know why. |
