Is your Yorkies Tail Docked? Hi again, I have noticed that some Yorkies on here have docked tails? Is this a legal thing to do in America? It has been banned in Britain for all breeds, anyone selling pups with docked tails are prosecuted. I think Yorkies look cute with there tails short but long is also cute. What do you think? Thanks:D |
I'm in Canada, still awaiting my puppy because he is so young, but his tail is docked. I think they should ban it here to, it isn't really necessary.. |
I'm in Northern Ireland and its still legal here. Millies was docked and Tobys isnt. Any pups born after they made it illegal in england cannot be shown at Crufts with docked tails. I have heard a lot of people taking pups over here from England to get them docked. |
The standard in the US calls for docked tails. Reggie and Frazier's tails are un-docked and their tails are my favorite part. I love to see a stub tail wag, but it's glorious to see those white flags go. |
Docked tails is still the standard here. Ellie's tail is docked and I prefer it. I don't really like the undocked look for a Yorkie but I think it's cute on a Shih Tzu because they curl up so nicely. Dew claws are also removed here quite often. |
Frimousse doesn't have a tail at all . She needed emergency surgery to take it off . |
Pasquale's tail is docked...and i'm sorta glad cause he has this tendency of backing his butt up into my face when i'm sleeping. Could you imagine if he had a tail?? I'd probably wake up with roadrash from all that tail wagging!! :D |
Pebbles has a docked tail. Bogey is a Morkie and his tail is also docked but IMO not done properly and was done too long. :( Doodlebug is also a Morkie and his has a long beautiful tail and I just love it! :p Personally I think that there are too many BYBer that do not know WTH they are doing when it comes to docking tail and end up not doing it properly like Bogey. *Totally off the tail docking subject but ear cropping is be banned as well. My sister and BIL just brought home their 3rd Dobbie puppy and plan to have her ears cropped. I want to just cry it is the most barbaric thing to do to a dog and should not be allowed anywhere. To tell you the truth I want to go and steal her and hind her out until it is too late for them to put her through. |
Funny Megasmomma thought her yorkie's tail is too long, 'cause I think Apple's is too short...lol...it doesn't stand straight up, just out, and I think it's because it was docked too short...However, I wish they didn't dock tails or crop ears (on those dogs that get cropped ears)...I think it's unnecessary and just appeals to people's eyes, instead of the dog's feelings...IMHO ;) Maggie:) & Apple:aimeeyork (w/the too short tail) |
Laci's tail is docked, her dew claws are not removed... I love seeing pictures of Yorkies with Tails I think they look adorable!! |
It is still legal here and called for by the standard per ACK. Both my Yorkies have docked tails. My Biewer does not (She was born in Germany and a the Biewer standard calls for the tail to be left in tact.) :) |
Both of mine are docked:) |
My yorkies tail is docked, so is my moms yorkie but my moms friends yorkie who is from the same litter as my moms doesn't have hers done apparently because she was too small at the time. I prefer the docked tail but with a tail is cute as well! I just like the "standard" look for the yorkie with ears up as well! |
Piper's tail is docked. It's very cute and it's docked at a nice length. That little tail has it's own personality. My first yorkie, Chipper, also had a docked tail but it was docked too short. I use to call it his little nubbin. |
Delilah's is docked and I think it looks cute, however I don't think it's necessary and I feel bad that they have to suffer through that. :( |
Callies papers say its docked but its longer then a stub and shorter then full tail but either way I like it :D |
Its unnecessary in my opinion...people will say that it is to 'avoid tail injuries' but i think they use this as an excuse to justify their actions because deep down they know that it is wrong...they will also say it is done for 'hygeine reasons'...if Pixie has ever got messy around her back-end, it is never on her tail, it will end up on the hair down her back legs...and i'm not going to have those removed!:p:rolleyes: I have watched many a docking video where the puppies are so obviously squealing in pain..it just breaks my heart...we all love and cherish our furbabies and want to protect them from pain so why would you want to cut parts of their bodies off just to make them look 'cuter' or 'prettier' to our eye? I just don't understand this at all...and i'm not posting this to rattle anyones cage...its just my total honest opinion.;) I for one think the yorkie looks wonderful with a full tail held high in pride and confidence..and the sooner the Top Show Yorkies around the world are being shown with a complete tail, the sooner everyone will accept it...I'm very very happy it is banned here in the UK.:) |

And while you might say it is the AKC standard, I think its time they changed the standard, the same way the UK did. Dogs were born with a tail for a reason. Would you start cutting off other body parts of your pup to make it look better? I very much doubt it! In all honesty I think it is animal cruelty. How do we know what they can feel at 3 days old or whatever age they get it done. |
I have posted this many times on here....http://www.dogtrainingireland.ie/doc...prohibited.pdf |
Roman's tail is docked and I like the little stub wag. Mallie's is docked too, but her puppymill "breeders" (she's a rescue) obviously did not know what they were doing because her tail is probably twice the size of Roman's. But her tail is cute too. One of Roman's yorkie friends, Quincy, from my work has a full tail. His is real cute too. So anyone see a pattern developing?? I just really don't care about the tails...as long as they can wag it when their happy/excited that's all i care about! |
Mika has a wonderful full tail and I am so glad that he didn't have his tail docked as the pain for him would of been terrible, they are only babies for god sake. I'm really glad the UK banned it. If a dog is born with a tail what gives us the right to cut it off? |

So your Mallie's 'breeder' 'didn't know what they were doing' when they docked her tail? well she's lucky to have survived...take a look at the Tail Docking Report i posted above...and look at the pictures of those poor puppies that died when their tails were cut off with a stanley knife....obviously done because the 'breeder' thought the puppies wouldn't be sold for a good price unless they had that docked look. |
Jasmine's tail is docked. |
Coco and Pebbles tails are docked (it kills me to think of the pain they endured) Trixie has a full tail. I must say it is really cute when Coco and Pebby come running and their whole but is going back and forth. :p But Trixie and her tail... We call her "tailie girl". Love her tail. She is a bigger yorkie so the tail looks perfect. I couldn't see her with a docked tail. besides she cools us off in the summer with that tail wagging all the time.HAHA Either way I LOVE my babies.!!!!! |
I agree with you wholeheartedly!!! :D There are a lot of things that are done in this world to improve looks *coughcircumcisioncough* without impoved health benefits. Couver has his tail docked, it's cute, but I cannot imagine the pain he went through for it. I hope that it becomes illegal here as well! Quote:

YAY! For you!;) |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 277477Tia still has hers and I love it lol |
Josh's tail is docked, because it is the standard for the breed. I do enjoy seeing Yorkies with a tail that is not docked. I think they look so cute with their long tail. |
16 years ago when I got Tink, it was "acceptable" or probably expected. She looked cute and was a wagger, so would probably be a bit of a liability with it - just in a good way! Bluebelle's (same breeder) is not docked and I love it! It's like a toy she carries everywhere - it amuses her for ages....if only she could sneak up on that darn thing! |
