where does your baby go when you are at work? I was just curious to see what everyone else is doing when they are at work! Could you tell me your baby's age and what you do with him/her while you are at work? (ie: crate / cage / free roam of the house / babysitter etc) and for how long are they alone? Thanks in advance for all your help! We would love some input in how to make our baby safe and happy! Michelle |
Riot will be 6 months old on June 6. Right now he's somewhere between 3 and 3.5 pounds. We have a gate in our bathroom doorway. We used to close the door since he could fit through the gaps even though they were less than 2 inches between the bars, but now he can't squeeze through. He stays in his "jail" but I work evenings and by bf works days so he's usually in there for only a few hours at a time. He has toys, food, water and a crate pad. We no longer put his crate in there, just leave it in the bedroom. We also used to put a pee pad in there, but he'd never use it. At first he'd pee on the floor, then he started just holding it and would go when we got home so we do't bother with it anymore. He doesn't have accidents in there! |
I work from home so we aren't gone for long periods of time on a regular basis. Wrigley is pretty well potty trained and if we are going to be gone for less than 4-5 hours we just leave him out. He will be a year old on this Sunday. If we are going to be gone longer than that we put him into the kitchen with a gate keeping him in there. We leave him plenty of food and water either way. Rae is 3 years old, but has a small bladder, and while I know she wouldn't get into anything - she does have accidents. So unless we are going to be gone less than about an hour, she goes into the kitchen with the gate up, again with plenty of water and food and toys (though she doesn't play with them). |
My Bella My baby girl just stays in the bedroom with her favourite toys (12 weeks). I arranged with work to have a longer lunch break and then I go back and feed her and give her some cuddles, its awesome! |
Couver is almost 8 months (oh my goodness, he's growing up!). He has free range of the house. He is pretty much potty trained, so he goes on the potty pads if he needs, plays with the cats, and basks in the sun all day. He does have his occasional poopy accidents, but those are easy to clean up. I know letting him have free range isn't the best, but it is what I feel most comfortable with. I would feel bad if he were caged for the times that we are gone. |
My Frankie is 9 months and i put up a gate between the kitchen and living room for him, he have his food and toys until his daddy comes home. Usually he is home for about 4 hours by his self.:) |
cash is 4 and since he was about 1 he has been roaming the house while im at at school, hes really good for long periods of time. |
I am fully disabled, and can't work> So I am home all the time, with my little Suzi. She is great company. My son is also disabled, however, goes to H.S. out of town and gone all day long. I had not thought about how it would of been like if I had worked beforehand, getting Suzi though. One goodthing, is that I was able to have brought her home when someone was always here with her. However, i've been in the hospital for over 8 days, and my brothers has taken care of her then. Cathy |
Usually I take her with me to work:p But when I'm at school (4-5 hrs) I let her stay in my room... she has my bed, her steps, her bed, toys, food/water, pee pad, etc. I always leave the blinds open or some type of light on, along with the tv just incase she gets bored. She's been doing this since she was about 3 months old... now she's 2 wks away from 6 months! |
Tia has the freedom of the dinning room while im at work from 8.30-11.45. I have an hour for lunch to play with her then she stays in there again from 12.45 -2.45.Shes never had an accident with toilet yet. she is 11 months old. :D |
All of mine are employed. ;) They come with me to work. |

Unfortunately Pasquale doesn't work. However i do. But i work nights and my husband works days. I do let him roam the house freely when i go on short errands like the post office. However, he's in the same EXACT spot i leave him in....staring out living room bay window waiting for me to come home. |

I have 3 yorkies that are 5 mths old. Two of them are 4 pds and one is 2 pds. When we are at work they stay in the bathroom with their toys, food, and water. They have a big pet bed to sleep in with their blanket. We have learned to take the toilet paper of the toilet paper holder when we leave. They had a toilet paper party one day while we were at work. Never a dull moment with these 3:rolleyes: |
Well, I work from home so he is at my feet when he isn't playing with the kids or outside teasing the neighbor's dog on the other side of the fence, lol. When I leave the house before just a few months ago he would go in his cubby until we can back. He is two and I have decided recently that he can be trusted to hang out whereever he wants and leave him out of his cubby. He is working out fine with that. |
I used to put her in the bathroom when she was a puppy. When she was about 6-7 months we shut the bedroom doors in the apartment and let her roam in the living room. I felt bad leaving her in the bathroom all day. I open the blinds since she loves sun bathing and look outside all day. She must work on her tan and be the nosey neighbor:rolleyes: I don't know what I'm doing when we move into the house. I don't want her roaming the whole house. |
My 2 Yorkies are both just over 2 years old. They each have their own crate filled with a fluffy bed that they stay in while I am working. I am a firm believer in crate training. I know they are safe, and I know my house is safe from them! |
My Maddie is gated in the master bathroom, she is 5months and weighs 2lbs, I leave her bed, food and water, and puppy pad (which she only chews up) but I have to make the effort, I do have a Lab that has free roam of the house and he will visit her at the gate.:animal36 |
Winston is a big boy, 5 years old and a little over 8 pounds. He is totally potty trained to go outside. But for his safety and my peace of mind, he is gated in the kitchen while we are away from home. He has his bed and his snuggle bunny, kibble and water. He is perfectly content, as a matter of fact he runs into the kitchen and jumps in his bed long before I am ready to walk out the door, and that is where we usually will find him when we come home. One of us does come home at lunch to let him outside to potty and feed him his canned food...so about 5 hours alone at a time. |
We have 5 furbabies - 2 are 4 yrs old and 3 are 2 yrs old. They stay in our bedrooms w/food, water, toys, beds and blankies oh and chewie bones. Every few hrs someone comes home and lets them out to go potty and play in backyard. |
Currently, I am in college and living at home with mom, stepdad, little sister and their dog. I basically have my own section of the house, with a door, bathroom, bedroom and living space. So, whenever I leave, Jackson is contained between the main room and my bedroom, which has a baby gate on it so sometimes he will just stay in my room and be perfectly content. Someone is usually always home though to let him out, etc, however, usually when I'm gone - they tell me he just sleeps on my bed. If I'm going to be gone all day or for longer periods of time than usual, I usually bring him over to my dad's house. They have two dogs over there that he loves with a big fenced in backyard and he just LOVES being over there. It's like a vacation house for him lol. So, I will bring him there. |
Li is only nine 1/2 weeks but we put her in our mudroom when we're gone to work and school. She has her food and water in there along with her bed and a pee pad. She pees on the pee pad if she has to go. I HATE leaving her alone for eight hours a day. I think about her all the time. In just a couple weeks, my kids will be off of school for the summer so that will give her some relief. |
Meg is 7 months old, 3.8 lbs, and she normally gets free range of the house except for the bathroom (she pees on the area rug) and the office. We close the office door so she can't chew on the power cords for the computers. Sometimes she will have accidents - I say accidents but I think they are deliberate since they only occur on a Monday or Tuesday when DH and I are back at work after a long weekend of playtime. Anyway, if that happens, then she gets severely restricted to the laundry room and a small portion of tiled hallway. |
When I was living in my apartment: It was all trial and error with my pup. I put her in the kitchen first with a gate, food, water, toys, a pee pad and a blanket, but she kept knocking the gate down. Then I tried putting the gate up with phone books propped up on the other side, and I also put a chair up next to it. That worked for two days; then she managed to knock it down. The problem with my pup is she's quite nosy and will get into everything. Plus, she tries to eat everything. So I would come home to the gate knocked over, paper eaten and littered everywhere and everything knocked down. Very unsafe for the little one. So then I put her in the bathroom with water, food, toys, a blanket and a pee pad. That worked for one day. The second day she unrolled all the toilet paper, so I made sure she couldn't access it the third day. On the third day, she got behind the dryer and completely obliterated the silver accordion thing that attaches the dryer to the wall. :( So I crated her after that and after only two days of messes, she did great! After a month of one that fit her pretty perfectly (like they tell you to get so she doesn't go to the bathroom in one corner and then hide in the other), I bought a bigger wire grate one that she could move around in and put nice, big padding in there for her with some of her toys. I have one of those water things that is attached to the gate that you lick the metal part and water comes out. Does that make sense? It's what you give rabbits and hamsters except way bigger. She likes the big crate so much better, but you really have to make sure there won't be any accidents first. While I didn't enjoy the idea of crating, I didn't really have any other option and she seems fine. She sits there patiently and doesn't whine or anything. She only whines if she knows I'm still home. While I still crate her in a home, I'm around a lot more. When I was working long hours, I would make an effort to come home and hang out with her for thirty minutes. (I lived less than five minutes away when I lived in the apartment) Wow. That was probably a lot more than you wanted to know! :) |

I'm a stay at home mommy so I get to be with Tyler all day. BUT... he still only has access to his xpen since we're potty training. I can't wait till he can go where he wants ): |
:) Oh my goodness she was such a handful when I first got her! I don't even know how to explain the accordion thing. It's attached to the wall and the clothes dryer. It's silver and some people call it a dryer snake? I have no idea what it does ... something to do with the hot air I would imagine. BUT I did find out it was sticky. When I got home and opened the bathroom door, I saw the silver pieces everywhere and it was sticking all over her like large pieces of glitter. I moved back with my mom not too long ago and she doesn't work so when I'm not home she is and vice versa. I love it. I hope both our little pups can eventually leave the pen without leaving a disaster behind! |
Snickers is going to be 11 months in 2 weeks (holy cow!) and is between 3-3.5lbs. He suffered from severe separation anxiety and we tried all kinds of things to ease his anxiety from crating to babygates etc. The only thing that has helped him and worked for him is a babyplay pen that is raised a few inches and we put it near a window and he loves staring out of it. He has not had an accident in a long time (about 2-3months) in the pen--in the beginning we would put a belly band on him and now he doesn't need one. He is 100% potty trained when we are at home. Thank goodness we found something that works...it was a nightmare!! |
I have 2 boys, they are gated into my kitchen while I go to work, I work 8am - 5pm. It works out well though, I just can't give them full run of the house. They are almost 4 years old, but not trustworthy yet still. |
My Bella is 2 y/o and she has free roam of the house while we are at work (except the bathroom, laundryroom, and office for safety reasons). I come home at lunch to take her for a brief walk and give her some kisses to break up the day and let her potty. I originally tried to babygate her in the kitchen, but she has amazing jumping abilities and I always found her in the living room when I came home. There were a few little messes for me to clean up along the way while we potty trained, but now she is doing great with potty training (we just adopted her about 2 months ago) and just holds it for the 4 or 5 hours she is there by herself. She does great while we are away, but I just wish I could take her to work with me! This morning she ran out into the garage when I was getting ready to leave and put her little paws up on the passenger door giving me a look of, "take me with you Mommy!" It broke my heart to have to put her back in the house! I am hoping to get her certified as a therapy dog so I can take her to work at least sometimes (I work at a hospital). |
