Sleeping w/your Yorkie I see so many, here, who have their babies sleep w/them @ night, and wonder if there are any issues of falling/jumping off the bed...Apple is almost 7 mo. old and weighs 4 lbs. 3 oz. and I don't think it would be safe for her to jump or fall off the bed...I know you use ramps and ottomons and such, but I would have to completely surround the bed to feel safe for her...Are you waiting until they're older or how do ya'll do this? Maggie:) & Apple:aimeeyork |
Both Brody and Rhianna sleep with us. Brody started sleeping with us when he was about 7 months old and Rhianna (we got her at 6 months old) was on our bed the first night we got her. They have never fallen off the bed. They know that when it is night night time they just come up on the bed and find their spots and that is it for the night . . .:D |
All 3 of ours sleep with us...err...I mean...we are allowed to sleep in the bed with our 3. And it's not them that run the risk of falling out of bed, it's me. Basically they sleep between my DH and I so they aren't near the beds edge. I've woke up many times to find I've got one of my feet supporting me on the floor so that I don't fall out. It is amazing how much room a 4 lb Yorkie thinks she needs to sleep. :p They can curl up into the tiniest little balls during the day to nap, but come night time they apparently have to stretch out full length crosswise on the bed. If we could get them to sleep in the same direction as we do it would be a lot more comfortable. :D |
Morgan started sleeping with me when she was at least a year. She was too small and i was scared i was gonna crush her. If i roll on her a little she doesn't make a peep or move. Most of the time tho she sleeps at the end of the bed in the comforters |
Ellie sleeps with me and doesn't fall out of bed. I'm pretty sure that I pushed her off the couch on accident when I was sleeping one time though. She survived it.;) She is not at all fragile though (for a Yorkie) and I'm not sure I"d want to sleep with a 3 pounder or a pup. |
Luckily, Roman is big and agile enough to jump on and off my bed fairly safely. We're still sleeping with Mallie on the couch, so the jump isn't as far for her. She'll try to jump, and she can sometimes...but she's still so small, it worries me |
I sleep with 2 Lakota sleeps at my feet & Yogi against my back and i have to take them out of the bed in the mornings they are both real sleepy heads. I have stairs at my sofa so they don't jump if any of you have a Fred's discount store they are not expensive $18.to $20. and very light weight but work great Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |
Sophie started sleeping with us when she was well over a year old. I wanted to be sure that she was well potty trained before I would let her be free in our bedroom while we were asleep:D. By then she weighed about seven pounds, and we have had a stool for her to use to get up and down from the bed. We have noticed that she will sleep all night with us during the winter, but once the weather begins to get warmer, she will jump down and sleep on the floor for a time. Usually we find her in bed with us in the morning. She does very well in our bed. |
Our 7lb-er sleeps with us. I wouldn't feel comfortable with our 3lb-er sleeping with us though. With he 7lb one we certainly don't encourage him to jump off of the bed, but if he does I don't freak because he isn't fragile by any means. We've never accidentally pushed him off, or rolled on him, he usually sleeps right above my head all night. |
Bayli has been sleeping with me since she was about 4 months old (2.3 lbs). The first week she slept with me I woke up many times throughout the night to make sure she was okay and I hadn't rolled over on her. Luckily, one side of my bed is against the wall so she sleeps on that side. Now she's two months older and about 1.5 lbs heavier and takes up the majority of the bed. But it's easy for me because has stairs to go and up and down when she pleases. I would say just try to keep your pup from the waist up so in case your feet move around they won't get thrown off. |

Raindrop was so little when got her that I slept on the couch with her on my chest, and the playpen next to me. It was just as if I had a human baby. So sweet and beautiful. Then she slept in the playpen beside my bed, and when she was able to climb up the 4 steps I have for the babies, then she was able to sleep in the bed. I have never had any trouble with any of them falling off the bed.(4 sleep with me, 1 sleeps with Jackie) Good thing I have a queen size bed. But they all have their own special place to sleep. Rocky will sleep on the pillow next to me, and if he is not there, Raindrop is. LOL! |
suki sleeps with us and she us juz a pup..she learned to wake us up, especially me when she needs to go do her business in the middle of the night. before she was sleeping on her own bed but she is juz so cute when she looks up and wants to lay with us..so we let her:p |
Well I just felt I could trust him not to chew on things recently so I have let him out to sleep whereever he wants at night. Just so happens he choses to sleep with me. He isn't small like 4 or 5 pounds and jumps around like crazy dog so I am not concerned at all |
molly sleeps with me and weighs about 4.3lbs too! she likes to be on my legs if i'm on my back but i usually move her cuz that isn't comfortable so she then goes behind my knees in the crook. she jumps off the bed with ease but i probably should put something so its not as far of a jump. She has never fallen off and i have never rolled over on her...she's my little sleeping buddy :) |
emma sleeps with me sometimes...if she is really tired out and gives me that sad look when I try to take her off the bed. I'm a softie! I don't like her sleeping there if she's not too tired because I am a heavy sleeper and she thinks she can jump off the bed by herself. When she's really sleepy she builds herself a fort out of my pillows and sleeps in there :) |
Bailey sleeps with us and she is only just over 4 months and weighs just over 4 pds now...the end of my bed is a huge set of stairs just for her and just goes on and off the bed through the night to use her pee pad and she is fine....she never tries to jump from the sides she knows better....and we have a night light for her int eh kitchen so when she does her business she doesnt miss...lol good luck with everything... also my baby sleeps right on my pillow with me so i know were she is at all time (i put a bell around her collor for when she gets up). |

What we do for our babies. :D No one else would ever understand. |
Both Jesse, the 5 lb.yorkie & Joe, 70 lb. boxer sleep at the foot of our king size bed. She has never fallen off & she's been sleeping with us since she was 9 weeks old & less than 3 lbs. |
Annie Grace has slept with us since we got her. She's sixteen months and about 6 pounds so I guess that helps. She jumps in bed at night and plays for about 1/2 hour whether we want to or not. Then she goes to sleep between us about waist level and sleeps till about 7:00 AM then it's playtime again and you better be awake or you'll get your face licked off! She's a joy. |
Thor is 4 lbs and sleeps in my bed. I do remember waking up one night to a little squeal and the sensation of a yorkie crawling out from under me, and once I woke up to find him on the floor. He's always been fine though. He does not like to jump off the bed, so once he's in the bed, he stays. He is sleeping in today. :D |
Its not falling that I worried about, I was always worried I'd roll over and squish Emmett... but that didn't happen. Emmett has always been safe on the bed. When he gets in he cuddles up to me and never leaves. |
General Lee has slept with us since we brought him home at 6 weeks. I had a play pen with a potty pad and because I am a very light sleeper every time he moved I woke up and put him in the play pen. When he realized that he had to use the potty pad to get back in bed with us he never had an accident in bed. My DH is a large man and at first I kept GL on the side away from him. After a while I found out that if my DH starts to move in his sleep, GL gets up and moves somewhere else under the covers. He gets down to use potty pads in the bedroom now, but not every night. During the winter he will burrow right away, now he will sleep for a bit on top of the covers, but always ends up burrow between my DH and I. |
Chloe is 4 1/2 months, and she sleeps with us just fine. She won't sleep unless she is between hubby and me, so falling off the bed is not an issue for us. They do make small stairs that you can put beside your bed for them to climb down. Most dogs learn this very easily, and I don't think they're very expensive. |
I would love Tia to sleep with us but it is me ,:DIm such a fidget in bed so we have our morning cuddles in bed instead. |
Fifi has to sleep with us everynight :D She's very attach to her daddy and sleeps next to him against his back or between his legs :p We bring her off the bed when we get up bec she's a sleepy head and never wants to get up :) If you don't put her on the bed she barks and whines until you put her up  I love sleeping with my beautiful baby!!! :animal36 She started sleeping with us the first night we got her and I don't think she'll ever stop :aimeeyork |
We have ramps and stairs everywhere for Kaia. She's almost 17 weeks and has to sleep close to either my boyfriend or myself. If one of us moves a little, sure enough, Kaia will reattach herself to our side! |
These are always one of my favorite threads :D My Suzi has been sleeping in my bed since she was a little puppy too. However, I waited until she was able to safely jump on and off the bed herself. I think it was at 4lbs she was able to do so! Early this am, Suzi took control of the entire comforter, she laid herslf down right in the middle. I had a little bit of a sheet , and it was warm enough . I know why Suzi loves my bed ;) |
sleeping arrangements My 11-month-old baby is a 7 pounder and he seems to think that we have bunk beds -- with me being the bottom bunk. When he's ready to nap or sack out for the night, he always wants to sleep on someone's lap, chest or stomach. Many times I wake up in the morning with him draped across my neck like a fur stole. Makes it easier when he wants to lick or nip my nose to tell me it's time to go out again. :D |
