Who brushes their dogs teeth? Just wondering,,am I a horrible mother?? I have yet to TRY to brush Baileys teeth? I can't even imagine it! Do groomers do this? Or is it a vet thing? |

No you are not a horrible mother. Mollie will not let me do hers, she tries to bite me. I make sure she has greenies a couple times a week and some other things to chew on to help keep her teeth clean. She just had 2 baby teeth extracted she is 19 months old and they didn't have to clean her teeth just the extraction. I am going to start brushing her teeth at least every couple of days whether she likes it or not. She will eventually get used to it. The only time that I took her to Petsmart for an actual grooming they did brush her teeth for me. Of course they charge more but they do it. I'm not sure if any other groomers do it or not. |
I brush their teeth - gotta love that beef flavored toothpaste (EEEeeeww!!). Don't worry, you're not a bad mother. I had no idea you were supposed to do this untill Biddy was about 10 months old! Who knew?? We never brushed my dog's teeth when I was growing up (then again, that explains his horrible breath!). I have a Winnie the Pooh kid's toothbrush that I use & beef flavored toothpaste that I got at Petsmart. It's not too hard to do, just lift up their lips(?) and brush away. Wait until you see the crap that comes off - it's gross!!! Good luck :) |
I brush Maximus' teeth everyday since I brought him home from the breeder...and I use toothwipes...a woman in the park commented that maximus had some of the whitest teeth she has ever seen...lol, he didn't like it at first but he has gotten used to it and it is part of our morning ritual...brush teeth and hair then walk!!! |
I do! She likes the taste of the beef-flavored toothpaste, too! :D I've had to let up lately because she is teething right now and having quite a time with it, too. :( |
I do brush Stomper's teeth, or I should say "at least" try too! It is not easy to do when you have a hyper little one! I actually got Stomper's toothpaste from the vet. Poultry flavor (yuk!). Stomper does like the taste so I just try to move it around his teeth. Again...I try to but I am sure I am not doing a good job! Vets will certainly take this burden away from you. I'm sure they will also do a much better job too! :D |
Yes, groomers can brush their teeth, and vets too. But the vets can charge a fortune for it. I haven't brushed Deegan's teeth yet, but I just bought a kit so that I can attempt it this weekend. I have a feeling it's not going to be easy, but it has to be done, so wish me luck! |
I didn't for the first year of his life but started after getting advice from YT members. I started with tooth cleaning pads, and he fought me the whole way. I bought a couple finger brushes and some petrodex poultry flavored toothpaste, and he loves it. It's still a struggle because he doesn't like me brushing the back teeth, but he slurps it up like it's candy. |
He is horrible on nail clippings, brushing, but I haven't ever tried the teeth brushing,, maybe with a little help from the beef toothpaste.... (double YUCK... ) He does LOVE food,,so that might entice him,,, I'll give it a try. Thanx! |

Yoda loves getting his teeth brushed...He is such a mellow little guy. He gets his brushed twice a day i brush mine and he waits paitently for me to do his. LOL I keep saying he is part human, because the way acts sometimes :p He has his own "Crest spin brush too :D |
I do...I take a piece of gauze wet it and put on some doggie toothe paste on it and rub all his teeth giving him a break now and then. My Vet recommended doing it this way cause he was fighting me when I used the toohbrush. It works out good. Terry & Moxie |
i have such a hard time trying to brush lexi's teeth... she fights me like crazy. i need help with that.. any suggestions please. i use a regular tooth brush, she licks it then bits it, but i cant seem to get he teeth brushed the right way. |
I use a fingertip brush. My dogs still fight me but I have found it easier with a fingertip brush rather than a regular brush. |
I brush Gucci's teeths. She doesnt like it but i still do it. I brush the front and back teeth. I use a toothbrush and flavor toothpaste, she love the toothpaste taste. |
I just asked my vet this last week. She said "In a perfect world, Yes...but right now you'd just be wrestling with him." Phew, cuz that is So true, Parker goes crazy when I try and brush Him let alone his teeth! She said to give him a couple Dentabones a week and that should be okay. Once he's older I am definately going to try...but right now he's just Way too hyper :D |
WOW, this is the first time in 4 days I have been on and is it me or is the system very slow today? Anyway, yes I brush both Chloe and Lacey's teeth every day or every other day. If you start when they are young, it is part of the routine. Of course, if your puppy is now older, it can be a challenge. I use a pet toothbrush, have tried the finger ones but cannot get way in the back, so I use a tiny toothbrush with all natural pet toothpaste. Since I started when they were puppies they tolerate it well, but if one of them is in a mood, I pry their little mouth open and literally put my finger in so they cannot bite down and have to keep their mouth open. Sorta of like biting down on a stick, only it is my finger. Works, though. I do recommend brushing, either by a pro of yourself because when your puppy is older, it will have gum and teeth problems. |
Absolutely! You can use brushes finger brushes, gauze or pantyhose, just use something and do it as often as possible. Even with brushing I just spent almost $1,200. at the vet for scalings and sealing for 5 of my crew. They really like me there. |
I TRY and do it but I should do it more often. He hates it but I put the toothpaste on the brush and as he's biting the brush I rub it against his teeth. Probably not the most thorough job but it's better than nothing! :) |
