Man I been thinking about not getting a yorkie
 

Ok look I have another dog that stays outside. He is the sweetest thing ever and I know he's sensitive. So first I know he is going to be a little upset about another dog coming in his territory but how would it look when i'm outside with both of them and when Im ready to go inside me and my yorkie go inside and leave him standing there. I mean he comes in when the weather is not good but other than that he does not want to be inside too much. I just don't want to hurt his feelings. Im thinking maybe I should just get an outside dog. Maybe a cocker spaniel

What other kind of dog do you have? We have a golden retriever and german shepherd outside, they don't seem to mind when mine are out playing for 5-10 min and then come in. But, do what you want, if you don't think you want a yorkie, then don't get one

if anyone has an outside dog w/ a yorkie can you tell me how things work out

well, if your outside dog likes it outside than it will probably be ok to get a yorkie. If you are keeping your dog outside because its too big or whatever than yeah I think it would be unfair to get an inside dog.
but thats just my opioion.. :)
oh and cocker spaniels really arent the type of dogs that you would keep outside all the time.

Lots of people here have inside dogs and outside dogs. I am not one of them tho.

If you are having any doubts it'd be wise not to get a yorkie.

Also a cocker spaniel is not an outside dog either...

My mother always told us "Do what you want. You will anway!" No one can make your final decision but you. However, there are lots of people here who can help alot. I, for one, have learned alot over the last few months. Good luck.

I have to agree. Yorkies are not for everyone. Maybe there IS a yorkie in your future, but now just isn't the right time. I have been there done that with many things in my life and I have come to realize that "just wanting" something is not reason enough. Many YTers can attest to this -- there are countless heart-break stories of people getting Yorkies that are unsure and winding up rehoming them.

Before I add a new "family member" I first write down all the reasons why I shouldn't and then all the reasons why I should. If the should's outweigh the shouldn'ts then I will continue the process.

hello my germenshepard is an out door dog & she's fine i got a yorkie & a chihuahua that r in door doggies what i mean by this is they r in doors while i'm at work when i get in they play with my shephard its fine i think go a head xx

If you are having doubts now, it is probably best to wait.

I'm not really into the outside dog thing, so I'd just let the big one in whenever it wanted to and if it wanted to be inside with you and the Yorkie, then it would be more than welcome...

I agree with most as if your aren't 100% positive about getting a dog.. don't.

Maybe in the future... you will feel more ready.

We have an Australian Shepherd that lives outside (she's also a "country dog" that works cattle also). She sleeps inside the garage (if she didn't she'd bark all night at the coyotes in the woods!) but she does not typically come inside the house. She does from time to time but her outdoor activities (playing in the mud and occasionally rolling in cow poop :eek:) dictate her outdoor living. She does love to play with Tatum (our Yorkie) when she comes outside and that is quite a bit. My husband thinks she gets sad about not being allowed to bring her dirty self inside like Tatum but I think that's because of his desire to have her inside all the time. I personally think she loves it outside (she has LOTS of area to run) and doesn't care that Tatum comes inside. We will be adding to our family with another Aust. Shepherd soon so she'll have a buddy outside too. Maybe if your outside dog had a buddy outside, he wouldn't be jealous of your inside dogs.

Sounds like you just need to weigh your pros and cons a little more.

Don't get a yorkie, unless you just can't stop yourself. These dogs are differnent than most dogs, I feel like I have a new son, not just a dog. :D

Thanks. Stormie is such a smart gal! We are waiting for her to come into heat any time now and have a stud waiting for her in Kansas (quite far from us!). Stormie's dad's breeder and this Kansas breeder have been wanting to cross these lines for some time and we were looking for the perfect stud. Match made in heaven. The stud's line are so well-known in the working dog class, that we pretty much have a waiting list for all the puppies. We will be keeping one for Stormie's buddy. I absolutely can not wait to see her as a mother..... she's just the most maternal dog I've ever seen.

I have a big dog and a small dog. They want to be together all the time. So when one goes out the other goes out, and when one comes in the other usually follows. I don't ever leave either of them out when were not home though. I worry to much that something will happen

And like you I feel bad having one inside and one outside.

Does the "outside" dog not want inside or you do not allow him inside?? I think if simply doesn't want inside its fine but if you don't allow him inside.. My feeling would be hurt too if you let someone in the house and not me..

If you are guessing about bringing home an inside dog, then do not. Like others have mentioned, a cocker spaniel is not a outside dog either. Yorkies require great care and love . They will give back so much too, however, they are a special breed . My brother has outside dogs, and inside dogs. His ouside dogs , I always feel bad for them. Because they really don;t have to much room, and I do not see why he has them. But his other dogs that are inside are not fixed so they have litters. He is not a responsible pet owner. :(
Whatever you decide, go with your first thoughts. Do not get a yorkie unless you are fully prepared to handles a inside dog , and along with the breed, grooming, temperment, and financial sacrifices .

I have a lab mix who is outside 24/7 he doesn't come inside...he is usually pretty aggresive around other dogs but when molly (my yorkie) escaped outside he just kind of ran after her and i just called his name and said no! soo he is pretty good i don't think he really cares. She escapes outside every now and again then i have to chase her while howard just watches i don't let them play together tho cuz i don't trust howard.

Yikes all I can say is that is a recipe for disaster!! I really hope that one day Howard doesnt decide to be aggresive towards your little one..

Last year, I looked after my sister's lab and he has always been an outside dog at my parents' house.
When he came to me, he was allowed inside sometimes (as long as he is relaxed since he is so big) and always during bad weather. The biggest reasons that he was outside was that he isn't trained to be inside and I am extremely allergic to dogs (luckily yorkies are hypoallergenic!), so a lab's hair all over our living room didn't work for me.

Anyway, Cash is an inside dog and he would taunt the lab! When I got him new toys (separate ones for the lab since he destroys all Cash's toys), Cash would pick up the toys in his mouth and parade by the door (security gate kept the lab from coming inside). He was actually bragging! I couldn't believe my eyes!

Cash got quite an attitude with the lab (although the lab is so much bigger than him) and although they got on very well, Cash is now having trouble adjusting to another dog (June) in his space. The leader of a dog pack controls all the resources and if the yorkie is allowed to be in place where the other dog is not, dominance issues can arise.

Yorkies are a lot of work and a lot of money, so choose very carefully.

Well i don't know if he's aggressive or just afraid of other dogs. i don't think he would do anything when anyone is outside with her whenever she gets out someone is always right behind her going to get her. He is a sweet dog though. I don't think he could catch her even if he wanted 2 because he is kind of sick so after running for like 1 min he get out of breath:( He seems to be used to her now tho...when the door is open he just looks at her and stays outside waiting for whatever treat he is getting.

I think that if your mind changes that quick, then it is not the right time to get a yorkie. They are a commitment, not something that you can just leave in your backyard to fend for itself. I don't think it's fair to bring a dog into your life when you are questioning it...

Im just working it out. It's not like im getting the dog now. Im just planning things just like your saying.

to me it sounds like you just want the dog because you want the dog. Not because you've thought this out entirely and love love love the yorkie breed itself.

you are clearly having doubts and i don't think its within the best interest of any puppy right now for you to be bringing one home. You don't sound sure enough to make that long term commitment to a dog that requires LOTS of attention and care.
