I don't know if that's a high price for a yorkie but that's a normal price for a maltese LOL

Price isn't much of an indication of a good breeder. Some of the worst breeders have the highest prices. I would look for a great breeder first, one who's truly interested in bettering the breed, and not someone who's just trying to earn a few dollars.

Yorkies are so popular that byb's have really saturated the market, which drives the price down, but not for a quality breeder. If you look at quality Maltese breeders, and quality Yorkie breeders, they are in the same range. Quality Maltese breeders in AZ charged less than the Yorkie Breeder I found, but I choose a Yorkie because she was the best breeder I could find, and one who had all the qualities I was looking for.

It also depends on your area. I would say a high quality Yorkie in SF would be $1200-$1600. Daytona Beach is also probably expensive.

Are you planning on breeding? Most good breeders sell with limited registration meaning no breeding rights, so males and females sell at the same price. I always recommend the YTCA site for breeder's referrals.

Ive seen some great breeders sell at that price and Ive seen some not great ones also. You just have to research the breeder

I don't think $2000 is to much for a dog. But at this price, he should be registered, come from an reputable breeder and have a good health warranty.

Can you tell us more about the breeder? Do he have a site.

Because if your are going to spend $2000+... what not going with the best...

Look at some of the prices of the puppies here.. This is just crazy to me!! I just thought it was a little boutique that sold clothes for children and puppies, never knew they were breeding animals..

I thought that was a clothing site too...Those puppies are adorable!! I believe they are mill puppies...when you have that many different breeds they most likely come from mills.

We ended up paying approximately $1500 for our girl. But, we are not showing her or breeding. Also, consider the spaying/neuter fees. Our vet gave us a quote for $950!

Start with a good reputable breeder first and go from there.

Yep! There's a huge ring of mill puppies that are coming from that area. Wizard of Paws (although it's named differently now - Puppies for Sale by Net) has been tried in court multiple times. My uncle bred and raised only Yorkies and only did it out of sheer admiration for the breed and strict guidelines. I'm always leery of breeders who advertise "micro, teacup, etc." Backyard breeders and puppy mills are scary business!

I got Coco from a breeder in Bunnell. This is only 30 minutes from Daytona Beach. I paid $1000 for a female. She is registered, but not to be breed.

Woooowww, that is a lot to pay for spaying, Jazzie's spay was $300. this included the disolving stitches. $2000. is high but then like others have said, the champions in the lines drive up the price a bit.

I had never heard of almost $1k for a spay myself. After I questioned about it, they recommended the SPCA (for around $300) but she wouldn't be observed overnight or given any medications. :eek:

WOAH! That price sounds crazy! lol. I would find another vet or a clinic. I took Jackson to a clinic for his neutering and it was only $65.
Females under 20 pounds were $80, I believe. He got pain meds for 5 days and was cared for greatly. He also got teeth pulled while
under.

All the regular vets around here quoted me between $280-$350. But $950 sounds ridiculous!

Wow. Here, we go to the animal shelter and pay $60 for a voucher, then take it to a vet that accepts them. A lot of them don't charge anything else, some charge a small fee on top of that, I think it's going to cost me an extra $75 at my vets, but, that includes pain meds(which I've never had for the dogs after spaying before. I will also have her baby teeth pulled

From a reputable breeder, with a pup with a champion bloodline that is a show potential, it is not out of line.

The vet suggested I spay her at 5 months. She's 4 months now, and 1.8 lbs. I'm afraid that she'll be too small at 5 months - and also read about having the baby teeth pulled at that time! :confused: BTW, your Biewer is gorgeous!!!

I'm no professional and usually I would suggest getting her spayed at 5 month
too but you MAY want to wait a bit for her to gain a little bit of weight. Lots
of dogs get spayed at around 2lbs and are absolutely fine but just make sure
they are using the right anesthetic protocol. Sevoflourne or Isoflourine gas
should be used. (I hope I'm spelling those right!)

Baby teeth being pulled is a VERY common thing in Yorkies/small dogs! Not
to worry! Jackson had 4 baby teeth pulled while under for his neuter.

$2000 sounds like a pet store price, and they wouldn't be selling champion lines there! :eek: Way too expensive. If they are champion, they should have the proof to show you. I got my Uni for $1200, she had all her shots up to 12 weeks (when I picked her up) and was also micro chipped. I live in Anaheim, but my breeder was in LA county. I had a friend (an elderly woman) who bought a male from a pet store in Santa Monica, for $2500! :eek: He was not champion, it turns out she was just rich.

I am a new yorkie mommy still learning everything so I can't offer much info sorry. I just wanted to say that I paid $900 for Lacey from a local breeder. The average price in this area for a registered female is between $900-$1500 depending on bloodline etc.

I would pay 2K for a dog if I was looking for show quality. For a pet, no way. JMO If you get a dog from a good breeder you will have a person that cares for your dog as much as you will. It is worth finding someone that gives you the "whole package". Health guarantee, good breeding, and everything else that goes with buying a puppy. It is worth waiting for a good breeder. YTCA has a list of good breeders. I would just start calling some and find out who you like, and trust. Take some time and do research here.
