I have a rescue Shih Tzu / Maltese. She is high energy, needs long walks and lots of play time. Her behaviors were similar to your parent's pup. Though others may not agree, I used Bitter Apple Spray on furniture and items I didn't want chewed. It took awhile, but it did work. The pup doesn't mean to be bad. She is just playing, and chewing is a way to work off extra energy. With maturity, she will grow calmer. Take her on very long walks twice a day, and offer lots of chew toys and bones. With time and training it will get better. |
A friend of mine's parents have a Shihpoo and when I visited for the first time the other day, their 2 yokries were so sweet, wanting me to pet them etc., that Shihpoo though was just growling and barking at me with his big ol' eyes staring at me LOL. My aunt had a pure Maltese a few years back and he was the sweetest thing ever, never did a thing wrong. Idk, I personaly don't like poodles at all, 90% of the ones I've met are NUTS! So, I'd say it's the poodle in there causing the terror. Not sure what to tell you honestly, hopefully she'll just grow out of it. If they're excersising her and playing with her and offering all kinds of toys, then idk what else. It's hard to correct those dogs because they can turn nasty on you if you're too harsh with them. A professional trainer is the only advise I really have. No poodle mixes for me lol |
I would suggest having a behaviorist come to the house and work on the problems they are dealing with. She doesnt "know she is bad"- taking things and darting off with them is a fun game for dogs- my Chloe still does it some times- but they need to work on a "drop it" command for those instances. She just sounds untrained- not "bad". I don't know much about maltese but I grew up with toy poodles and they are SUPER SMART- very very good dogs- the problem with very smart breeds is that when they are bored, they create their own fun which usually equals trouble. If your parents work on really training her with the help of a professional, she will likely pick up on things very quickly and be a great dog. |
