Where did you get your Yorkie? Breeder? Rescue? Mill?? Just wondering where everyone found their dogs. Did you but straight from a breeder with a good reputation? Maybe a breeder that you later learned had a bad rep? Did you buy from a puppy mill even though you may not have known it at the time? I want to know how much research people put into their dog. I put in a lot of research AFTER finding my puppy and I realize I'm still very happy with my choice. I didn't end up being duped by a puppy mill or bad breeder. I can see how easily that could happen. I would like to hear stories of how your love ended up in your home! |
I had bought my love from a breeder that we found. When I held Mimi, I fell in love. It was like love at first sight! She looked at m e like take me home with you. I will be your best friend, give you lots of smoochies, and will never let you be lonely =D lol. best choice of my life |
I bought Cali from an add in the paper, BYB and Cali was had multiple medical problems including hypoglycemia, liver shunt and allergies. Thousands of dollars in vet bills, then I found YT and learned so much and got Pixie and Roxie from a reputable show breeder and have been very happy with them. |
I got Ziggy from a locally owned pet shop. I know that's usually bad, but my step-mother's aunt owns it. The lead groomer also has a Yorkie from the same Sire, but not the same Dam. This pet shop isn't the cages lined up on the wall, it's very nice. Each puppy litter has their own little area, about 3 ft. by 5 ft. They have toys, beds, blankets and water bowls- they have feeding times so no food bowls usually. He's CKC registered and no problems. Though he was the 'wild' one of the litter, so much energy. So, I am/was very pleased with the shop and if I was looking for another Yorkie I'd probably go back. |
Frimousse came from a puppymill busted . Mollie came from my friend who died from breast cancer . |
Missy came from what you would call a BBB. It was this ladies first litter and she said that she isn't likely to breed her Yorkies again. If she does, I'm definitely buying another one! Missy has been a gem :) |
I saw Jackson in an ad online... Kiji or something. She was what I'd consider a backyard breeder. It was an accidental breeding. She was very nice about the whole thing though and very responsible and felt bad about what had happened and she would keep them all if she could! She said the puppies slept in her room ever night by the floor, and she was immediately getting her boy fixed who got together with her new roomates Yorkie, whom she thought was spayed. I'm VERY happy with my choice and wouldn't want Jackson any other way!!! |
I meant "buy" straight from a breeder!! Ugh!! Sure wish I could edit! |
I have 4 yorkies. My first from a disreputable (told me the puppy was full grown at 4 pounds ) BYB. Tia is now 19 pounds and the love of our life! No health problems what-so-ever. Cooper - a breeder with a good rep. Great little guy - almost 3 yrs - no health probs - 6.6 pounds Oliver - a home breeder. Had 2 females and one male. Adored her doged but didn't over breed them. 2 yrs - 9.9 pounds and no health probs so far. Abbi - online - know nothing about the breeder - but (gulp - I hate to admit this in this forum!!!) I've always wanted a small yorkie. She's 6.5 months - 2.7 pounds and my vet says shes extremely healthy, great bite, very strong heart. I know things can change, but I'm crossing my fingers and saying my prayers. I joined Yorkietalk after getting Abbi ( my youngest baby) and have learned so much!! Of course, I won't be getting another (unless my husband is out of the picture - LOLOL), but I continue to learn each and every day. My vet was totally amazed at what I was doing for Abbi when she had "the runs" and I couldn't get her to the vet. She said it was "professional advice". I was giving her pumpkin, plain yogurt and pedalite (sp?). She's pretty sure this is what kept Abbi alive during her bought before I coule get her on antibiotics. SO - THANK YOU YORKIETALK!!!!!!! XOX, Michele :-) |
Thanks everyone! I consider mine a home breeder also but a very responsible one. She is the one who informed me about hypoglycemia, etc. even before I agreed to purchase the puppy. I'm certainly not looking to show my dog so for a pet, I'm very very happy. However, I don't even have her!!! Friday is the day! |
I got Sam on Yorkietalk! |
After losing our 13 yr. old toy Poodle, Nicole, and my grieving for about 7 yrs. and threatening "death" to Patrick if he even hinted for another pet .... he began his campaign!! He began his "hey, look at this" and every time I would look at his computer screen, there was a tiny little Yorkie face. I would give him a dirty look and say "don't even start"!!! :( He kept this up for about a year and he finally "met" Ava Tyree over the phone. They talked on the phone for a few months and I finally agreed to "look". We were working in MO and she lives in Marietta, GA and had three babies she was evaluating for show. We were at our home in AL, "Mr. Pushy" set up an appointment to look, she brought the first one [Toto] out and I looked at the first Yorkie that we had ever seen in person. That tiny little 1 1/2 lb. piece of fluff looked at us with that tiny little piece of tongue sticking out of her mouth and owned us!! We didn't even look at the other two! We have been "servants" to Her Highness .... "TyAva's Out of Oz, Toto" for over five years!! She proudly wears us around her little tiny paw and we can't even describe how much we love her! :) It really pays to take your time and look and research before making one of the most important decisions you will ever make. If you find a wonderful, caring breeder like Ava, you can be assured of a healthy pet. She is totally dedicated to her Yorkies and strives to better the breed. I don't know of another breeder with a better line than hers. Toto is our joy! |

I got Baron from a great breeder who is about 10 minutes from my house. I had looked for a Yorkie female for about 9 months after losing my German Shep. Raine. I called about one that was being re-homed, he had been placed But, The breeder lived right beside the woman who had the dog for re-homing. There were 5 male pups. I went to just look...Well, Baron will be with me 1 year on May 13th. He's a male, I wanted a female, But, I saw that cute little Brillo Pad Teddy Bear Face and was wrapped around his little paws! On Sunday we leave to pick-up a little girl that is being re-homed by a YT member who lives in Arkansas. Today, May 5th is my 30th Anniversary, So my Husband and I are tying the two together. I can't wait...:yay_jump::yay_jump::yay_jump: |
All our "kids" were adopted from rescue groups. DJ, Harley D and Zeke from Yorkie Friends Rescue, Zack from another local yorkie rescue group and Annie (not a Yorkie) from Save a Pet Grayslake Illinois (11/93). |
How amazing this post is up... I just finished looking over papers that I received a few months ago, and was trying to research the breeder, broker, etc. on Google searches. I bought my little girl on impulse at a Pet Store. I felt very nervous as I was trying to uncover the information, however, I truly love her anyway! She is a bundle of fun. Next week she will be 1 yr. |
I got Couver off of Craigslist... I know, I know... The woman had bought him from a breeder a town over, but inherited her grandchildren 9 months, 2 years and 5 years and they were too rough on him. So she decided to re-home him. I went over to her house and fell in love with my baby... I would not change a thing! With my next one, I will be doing more research into good breeders :D |
We;re getting our little Baylee from one of our long time friends. His dogs had their 2nd litter and we fell in love with our little Baylee. The dam and sire have never had any health issues and Baylee is super healthy and happy and full of energy :D Thursday is the day! We are super excited to bring her home! |
we got Sadie from a pet store she was our frist she is our gem no health problems at all Bella from a small Breeder her and i have each others pups very pleased with bella Baby is sadie pup and is 4.5lbs a very sassey girl she had babys and we kept one gracie is Babys pup she is 2.11lbs and is very spoiled she was born with one of her back legs turned around and its like a flipper ,but man can she go on the other three. Mikey is our wee boy just 3lbs he is babys boy he is a little sucky baby our newest is Lexi and she is 5 months old and from the same Breeder as Bella |
I got Bluebelle from the same breeder I got Tink from 16 years ago. She shows Yorkies and breeds a few litters every so often to take her show dogs from. She has many champions and a couple of Crufts wins. I decided to go back to her because Tink lived for 16 years - I figured she knew what she was doing. However, I think most people here would consider her eccentric (we did). She has some strange ideas - though she has been breeding and keeping Yorkies for 40 years, so I always think its worth taking on board as much as you can from everyone. |
I have had two yorkies of my own. My first was Lilly (now deceased) she was my baby, my angel, my love. I miss her so much!! She came from (what I think) was a puppy mill... My aunt had bought from them in the past and she took me there to get my own.. as a gift (I paid a little).. I could not turn away after seeing all the babies and after taking my Lilly (the one I picked out) to the vet.. I just KNEW it was from a puppy mill, and I still to this day do NOT believe she was full blooded yorkie!! I felt like I saved her, atleast until she died.. another sad story... After the sadness, about a week and a half after Lillie died I got Jazmyn... I had my Step-mom help me with finding her, and after much, much, MUCH time and searching we found my baby.. the one to fill the void, a new little angel! She came from a woman in MO that had two momma yorkies and one daddy, not sure how often she breeded them but my baby is supposed to be the "runt" of the litter, I got her at 6 weeks and she was 1 1/4 pounds... both her parents are only 4 lbs so we're not sure if she'll reach that, it won't matter to me cause I'll still love her!! |
My Charlie Boy was a gift from my husband on our anniversary in August. He was advertised in the local paper as a "purebred"...NOT! But he's big and healthy and very energetic:) I had purchased a beautiful little girl in June from a BYB whom I didn't know anything about (Lesson Learned!). My little Lilly passed away 3 weeks later, it broke my heart! I got my two girls as adults from a local breeder (also considered a BYB) but this time I RESEARCHED and checked references! I did a lot of web site work/design for her and was able to negotiate a nice price, as well as being able to visit her home and see things for myself:) |
My little Laddy was bought for me by my DH after I lost my dad (from a puppy mill :() He stole our hearts and we couldnt bare to leave him there but we have not regretted it he is the love of our little home and the boss. I say yorkies are the best antidepressent on the market. So far thank God he has been really healthy. Next time when we get a little girl for a playmate for him I hope to find one here on YT from a breeder. I have plans to meet with WalnutHills sometime this summer. |
I adopted Molly 18 months ago, when she was 2 years old. She was advertised in the paper, and the lady had only had her for 2 weeks. She'd bought her as a companion for her male yorkie, but decided Molly was too out going and 'streetwise' for her timid boy. Later found out, i was Molly's 5th owner in 2 years! |
None of the above I bought Wiggy from none of the above. The place is in the middle of nowhere and they do buy dogs from reputable breeders to sell reasonably priced. They pledge no mill puppies. However, I did have my doubts after the purchase because he came with Kennel Cough. I literally reamed this lady for 5 weeks! I called her a whole lot of not nice things, ALL in regard to her dog-mill. Finally, she gave me the contact info for the breeder, which was local to her. I visited and talked to them and realized I was 100% WRONG! I had 5 weeks worth of apologizing to do, and I did. Basically her place is a pet store with puppies for sale and supplies and a doggie day care. The staff was kind and caring and graciously accepted my apologies. The owner even gave me a $50 gift certificate, which I refused because I had been so mean and so wrong. I now know they sometimes take in rescues, mutts and other puppies and find them homes for cheap. They once had a pup with a deformed leg for $75. She kept him so long that I'm sure he cost more to keep than she made. I bought my Weimaraner from a breeder, straight from his farm, so there were no doubts there. |
