6.6 poundss noww at 3 months.... gonnaa double?? the breeder i got my baby ovie from told us that he would get to b about 5 pounds... he is now 3 months and over 6 pounds.. i love him to death and dont care how much he weighs.. jsut wonderingg if he willl double that weight .. i read that there weight at 3 months then doubled.. am i wrong? |
Yes, that is what usually happens. Triple the weight at 8 weeks, or double it at 12 weeks. There are of course Yorkies that are the exception to the rule. |
Yep, doubling at 12 weeks usually seems pretty accurate. Jackson weighed in at 6 pounds at 12 weeks old and is now 13 pounds at 6 months. So, doubled plus one. I love every ounce of him and prefer him that way! |
With weight there's never any garantee but obviously he won't be five pounds, how much did he weigh when you got him from the breeder? I think your little guy will be around 13 pounds full grown, that's just my estimate. Don't worry, you'll just have more to love! It really depends on the dogs in your yorkie's pedigree. Does your breeder know the weights of your pup's parents, grandparents, other relatives. What age did the breeder's yorkie lines stop growing? You could get a better guess, if you asked her. |
A LOT of breeders lie about how much the puppies will weigh. I was told my ollie would be between 5 and 8 pounds... he weighs between 17 and 20 pounds at 1 year and i love every bit of him but I was very surprised, I kept wondering if he would ever stop growing :laugh: |
My Jake was a little over 3lbs at 8 weeks and now at four yrs old weighs a whooping 20lbs. He is a big boy but we love him just the same.:D |
You really never can tell what their weight will be. It all depends of the furbaby. But look at it this way, you've got more Yorkie to love:D:D:D:D Big or small, they all have hearts of gold.:2hearts2: |

Well, you know he won't be 5 lbs.;) I didn't keep a record of what Ginger weighed at what age, so can't speak from personal experience, but the general consensus is double at 12 weeks. As others have said, every dog is different, and sometimes I swear my Bernie is still growing. He's also around 13 lbs. Your baby will change so much over the next year. Size, hair color, hair texture...all I can say, is take lots of pictures!!! Enjoy and welcome to YT! |
Loki was 3.5 pounds at 13 weeks and he's 12 pounds. Well 13 but he gets too many treats :) So it really doesn't mean anything. He will still love you though! How old/big was he when you got him? |
Might as well just sign him up for the Teapot Club right now! I have 2 teapots....they really do just give you more to love & kiss. |

I believe a good breeder should be able to make a good estimate on full-grown weight. An estimate is something that varies, but they should be within a 2-pound range. Unfortunately. so many breeders know full well that the puppy will be much larger than they state. Did you see the parents? This will give you a good indication of full-grown weight; don't take the breeders word for it. I'm so glad you are accepting of a different weight than what was promised, many people aren't, and it's so sad to read about a dog that isn't loved as much because it's a few pounds over the promised weight. |
