6.6 poundss noww at 3 months.... gonnaa double?? the breeder i got my baby ovie from told us that he would get to b about 5 pounds... he is now 3 months and over 6 pounds.. i love him to death and dont care how much he weighs.. jsut wonderingg if he willl double that weight .. i read that there weight at 3 months then doubled.. am i wrong? |
Yes, that is what usually happens. Triple the weight at 8 weeks, or double it at 12 weeks. There are of course Yorkies that are the exception to the rule. |
Yep, doubling at 12 weeks usually seems pretty accurate. Jackson weighed in at 6 pounds at 12 weeks old and is now 13 pounds at 6 months. So, doubled plus one. I love every ounce of him and prefer him that way! |
With weight there's never any garantee but obviously he won't be five pounds, how much did he weigh when you got him from the breeder? I think your little guy will be around 13 pounds full grown, that's just my estimate. Don't worry, you'll just have more to love! It really depends on the dogs in your yorkie's pedigree. Does your breeder know the weights of your pup's parents, grandparents, other relatives. What age did the breeder's yorkie lines stop growing? You could get a better guess, if you asked her. |
A LOT of breeders lie about how much the puppies will weigh. I was told my ollie would be between 5 and 8 pounds... he weighs between 17 and 20 pounds at 1 year and i love every bit of him but I was very surprised, I kept wondering if he would ever stop growing  |
My Jake was a little over 3lbs at 8 weeks and now at four yrs old weighs a whooping 20lbs. He is a big boy but we love him just the same.:D |
You really never can tell what their weight will be. It all depends of the furbaby. But look at it this way, you've got more Yorkie to love:D:D:D:D Big or small, they all have hearts of gold.:2hearts2: |

Well, you know he won't be 5 lbs.;) I didn't keep a record of what Ginger weighed at what age, so can't speak from personal experience, but the general consensus is double at 12 weeks. As others have said, every dog is different, and sometimes I swear my Bernie is still growing. He's also around 13 lbs. Your baby will change so much over the next year. Size, hair color, hair texture...all I can say, is take lots of pictures!!! Enjoy and welcome to YT! |
Loki was 3.5 pounds at 13 weeks and he's 12 pounds. Well 13 but he gets too many treats :) So it really doesn't mean anything. He will still love you though! How old/big was he when you got him? |
Might as well just sign him up for the Teapot Club right now! I have 2 teapots....they really do just give you more to love & kiss. |

I believe a good breeder should be able to make a good estimate on full-grown weight. An estimate is something that varies, but they should be within a 2-pound range. Unfortunately. so many breeders know full well that the puppy will be much larger than they state. Did you see the parents? This will give you a good indication of full-grown weight; don't take the breeders word for it. I'm so glad you are accepting of a different weight than what was promised, many people aren't, and it's so sad to read about a dog that isn't loved as much because it's a few pounds over the promised weight. |
Teapots Rule! Clara Belle weighs in at 10.8 lbs and is 7 1/2 years old. |

We got Wrigley when she was 12 1/2 weeks old and she weighed 1.13lbs and she will be 3 this month and weighs 6lbs! So she really didn't follow the chart! |
Oni was 1.5 pounds for 12 and 13 week old. He is prob 7 pounds and is 5 1/2 months. I was taken advantage of by a puppy mill and he sold me the dog under concept of teacup. He starved the puppy and he was sick when I got him. I didn't know about this site and the wrong understanding of teacup. I have had to majorally adjust to this growing dog and it has been a struggle but I do so much love him. So even x3 is not even coming close to his size. I do not know about the parents, cause he would not give me any information cause he got my money and he doesn't care. Puppy Mills are so bad. So prob at the one year mark I will know what I have. Since he has grown so fast he will prob quite pretty early. |
Kayden is almost 8 months, and at 9.5 pounds. I'm glad she didn't stay as little as the breeder said she would. She goes everywhere with me. It makes me angry when people ask if she is 'really a yorkie'! Yes! She is! And I love every ounce of her. But when we go to the farmers' market or camping, etc...I don't have to worry about her as much...and she can play...I don't have to carry her. Enjoy that bundle of joy :) |
My little, now big Louis weighed a mere 2 pounds at 8 weeks. At 10 weeks he weighed 4 pounds. At 12 he weighed 6 pounds. He is almost 5 months old and still growing! I haven't weighed him in a while though. |
Absolutely love this thread! So much love flowing! |
is there a difference between regular, teacup, and toy? Or are there only 2 kinds, regular and toy? What are the weight diffs? Breeders and puppy stores in general lie and it's awful. False advertisement in terms of sales  At 8 weeks my guy was about 2lbs - sold as a "toy" |

I <3 my teapot.:) There are some definite advantages to having a little bit of a larger dog. At a lean, athletic 13 pounds, Penny is still a small dog compared with most dogs out there, small enough to easily travel with and cute as a button, but she is big enough that I don't have to fret about hypoglycemia, she can keep up with me when we're on one of our seven mile hikes, and I can let her play with children and friendly big dogs without being terrified that they'll injure her. |
I read the comments from people who have those tiny little 2 and 3 pounders, and I cringe. My Bella is a little slip of a thing at 3.75 lbs.; Puddie the Porker is a little over 7 lbs. To ME, these dogs are TINY. They are belled so I know where they are and don't step on them. Meds always give me the heebie-jeebies because the meds always seem to be for larger dogs, which means I'm overdosing my smaller dogs. The way I see it, you have the best of both worlds: a wonderful little dog with all the looks and personality of a Yorkie in a slightly larger package that will be healthier and easier to medicate :). You don't have to be as afraid that your pup will be hurt (as easily as the little ones). Yeh, look at the bright side: you're kinda lucky! |
My Ben and Sadie held very true to the double at 12 weeks rule, actually they were both just a tad under the doubled weight. I think part of that is I like to pick the roly poly puppies and when they carry extra baby weight, it may not all double. My sister just came to visit and she has one of Ben & Sadie's first litter. She is a 3 pound adult. A friend of mine has another female from the same litter and she is 5 pounds. They were both almost the same weight within an ounce or two at 12 weeks. So, it can vary. Your puppy should JUST NOW be ready to go to a new home at 12 weeks/3 months. How early did you get your pup that you thought it might grow to be 5 pounds, but it is 6 pounds at 3 months? |
Tyler was 2 lb 1 oz at 12 weeks, and now, at 5 years old he's 11 lbs!! (course all the treats don't help one bit) |
