Purse training..? Hey Everybody! Do you guys have any tips on getting your Yorkies to stay in the purse's calmly and quiet? everytime we try to get our yorkie in the bag he just goes crazy and tries to jump out. We've tried treats and everything. I would like to take him places, but now idk if i can.. Any tips? |
I have been working with Couver in his bag. I try to just go on short trips, and reward him afterwards for being quiet. It's still not his favorite thing to do, but he would prefer to be in the bag than stuck at home! :D |
Awwww Welcome to YT!!!!!!!! I have 3 furbabies and only one of them will stay in the purse, she is only six mths old. She seems to feel safe in there when we are in the car or truck, she kindda picked it up on her own. The other 2 are 2 yrs old and will have nothing to do with the purse:)Good luck. :) |
how did you introduce your baby to the purse. when i got my carrying purse for milu, i did not put her in there. i just kept the purse open, and she jumped in there by herself and started sleeping in there. she doesn't like to be in the purse when we go to stores, but she knows that it's either staying in the purse, or stay in the car. how old is your baby? milu used to peek her head out of the purse and try to get out all the time when we are shopping, but now she is older and more use to staying in the purse, she will just stay in there as long as i keep moving around. (but if i stop, then she will want to come out ) |
i have no tips for you. Morgan just jumped in and enjoyed it from the get go |
Same with Missy, she just sits quietly in the bag. Maybe because she started so young? |
I have one that I put in a purse, and he does great, no one even know he is there. But I think you have to start when they are young. |
I could never EVER in a million years see Jackson in a purse, lol. All 14 pounds of him carrying on my arm quietly? Never. |
Bailee loves it too,i started her from day one tho... |
I think starting a puppy at anything works best the younger they are. Never make anything an "event" but just something they do regularly. When I look back at old phobias or bad habits mine had, it was generally my fault. Either lack of consistant reinforcement, or giving in created every problem I ever had with any dog I owned. |
I put lots of smelly treats in the purse and make it a game. I also exercise the pup before so he's very sleepy and calm. Just like any other tricks repetition is key! I have Genghis go in the purse every time we go out before we leave the house or even get into the car. If he wants to come with me he has to jump into the bag :) |

OP, I pat Sam when I have him in there and talk to him so I dont know if that makes a difference or not but you might try it. People look at me as if I am crazy but whatever.... |
Try to take it out daily and put it on the floor. Let them smell and explore the bag. Sometimes they will just go in willingly. My females loved it from the begginning and used to fight to get in the bag lol But i think that if you take it out everyday and put it on the floor with a treat inside they will see the bag as a 'good thing' and not feel like they are forced to be in it. Then little by little if they get into it pick it up while theyre in it and walk around the house, do this everyday until they get used to it to go outside |
I know this is a silly question but is everyone using a regular purse or the vented pet bags? |
