My 2 yr old boy Diesel loves frogs. He is the kind of dog that is very respectful of other animals and is always very gentle--otherwise I'd worry about the safety of the frogs lol.

Here is a picture from my breeders house--we were up visiting with Diesel and they have this awesome pond on their property where we found the bull frog below :) and the other one is of him meeting our "rescue" toad (relocated to a nice swampy area) :D

Last summer my Dex did lick a toad and ended up foaming at the mouth... I just snatched him up and rinsed his mouth out for a good 3 mins and he was fine, I kept an eye on him and he didnt throw up or anything and it was not a poisonous toad or anything, I'm sure he'd do it again though! LOL

Sounds poisonous to me. But hey I'm not expert. I want to say that it is the secretions from the frog's skin that reacts with the dog causing them to foam. Just be careful. If there is vomiting or any behavioral changes I would take them to the vet asap. I don't know if there is an antidote or something.

Our toad story from when Sissy was a year old ~ we get tons of toads in our yard in early summer. From teeny tiny ones to really big ones. Even if not poisonous, according the vet it is vile tasting. Well Sissy immediately starts foaming at the mouth and jerking backwards, shaking her head from side to side to get the icky stuff out of her mouth. Needless to say, she opened her mouth and the toad hopped away. A little while later, Sissy started vomiting (a result of the vile tasting secretions) and we ended up with a vet visit for sub Q fluids and a check-up. Thankfully, she has never touched a toad again!!!!!!!!

I have lived in this house for 18 years with my poodles, and I think almost every other year we have a pup lick a frog or toad. I put up an acre fence to keep them safe and the darn frogs and toads keep getting in.
