Almost lost Maggie May! Oh my gosh! We NEVER us our front door as we go thru the garage all the time. Well, we have chem lawn and they always leave the paperwork hanging off the front door. Hubby went to retrieve the bill the other night (at about 10:00 pm) and I was in the kitchen on the other side of the house and all of a sudden I hear him yelling. Maggie May had dashed out the front door and he didn't see her until she was down the front stairs and on the light colored cement walkway! Thank goodness! He said the door was just about closed when he happened to look out for whatever reason and saw her. Now we live in an area surrounded by woods and water with tons of wildlife. There are only 14 homes so there is basically no lights in the neighborhood unless someone has their porch lights on. Whew! We probably would not have noticed she was gone for at least a 1/2 hour at least! That was really, really scary. She is just so quick and hyper that sometimes you don't even see her run by you. I am just so glad something made hubby look out the door before he shut it totally! Needless to say she got a good stern talking to and a lot of hugs and kisses. So watch your babies or at least know where they are whenever you open any doors! |
i'm glad he saw her when he did ,they sure r fast i got to watch jacey anytime the door comes open |
OMG, the title had my heart racing! Thank God your DH saw her! I never use my front door either, and it's mainly for just this reason. The little buggers are so quick I'm afraid I couldn't catch them in time. I'm glad everything is alright! {hugs} |
I am so glad he happened to see her - how scary! I had a scare this morning too...Olivia has never, ever tried to get out of our fence. Actually I always have to put her outside and usually have to make sure she doesn't run right back in the doggie door before she does her business. But this morning I put her outside and about 10 min later realized she had never came back in. Sure enough, she had got out of our fence and was nowhere to be found. I threw clothes on my granddaughter and myself and we walked around and then drove around our rural subdivision...finally saw her runninng alongside another dog's fence. *whew* I didn't have her harness/tags on her either so I was having real anxiety! So glad we both found our girls! :) |
 Seriously Bo. Maggie May seems to have a bad case of wanting some serious attention!!! Sheesh!!! I am so glad your dh saw her! |
A couple of years ago my older Yorkie got outside at night and nobody even knew he was missing. I happened to go in the kitchen for something and glanced at the glass door and realized that Chipper was on the WRONG SIDE of the door. Being that he was older he never went far from the house but that wouldn't stop from him being somebody's dinner. We were very lucky that night. |
OMG, I am so glad that your dh noticed. That's scarey! |

When we put them face to face she is soooo cute, she will give kisses and then start putting her paws all over his face and head. It is too cute, she has always used her paws for things like that. When he used to be mean to her, she would take one paw and pat him as to tell him she understands that he is a brat and that it is okay. :D |
I had that happen with Jasper a few wks. ago.He is only 14 wks. at that time just 12 wks. anyway.I went outside and he ran passed me and took to chasing a bird.My two young kids 2 and 3 started yelling for him.He started to come to me but a stupid bird caught his eyes again and he was on the chase,I was so scared he was going to get hit by a car.We live off a busy street.A School bus driver seen me trying to get him and she got out of the bus to help.He was almost to the busy stret and I colapsed in fear of what I was going to whitness. On my knes and crying like a baby as were my two young kids on the porch begging Jasper to come to them.I was so scared, thankfully the bird finally flew away and Jasper seen the bus driver coming towards him and he turned around and came running to me.Licking my tear soaked face.I never held him so tight in my life. When I got up holding him my legs were so weak and shakey.I think I could have had a heart attack. We now have a gate up on our porch with a lock.No more escaping anymore,my heart can't handle it. |

That is so scary Im glad shes okay. Your Husband has good eyes. I have a fence in my front yard and back and its nice because I dont have to worry if they go out. Its a pretty good thing too because our house is close to the street and its a pretty busy street |

Schareeeeeeek! OMG'sh I'm so glad Ms. Maggie May is o.k...and thanks for sharing this story...When I open the front door, I always say "stay", and she does, but it has crossed my mind that perhaps one day she might not mind, and then she's out the door...And, although I don't live on a busy street, I do live in a neighborhood w/cars that go up and down, from time to time...I'm taking your post as a "heads up" to either pick-up Apple, when I open the door, or put the gate up behind me, where she doesn't have access to the front door...Thanks again for sharing, and tell the Rod'ster to have a talk w/Ms. Maggie lol.... Maggie (the human) & Apple (the almost human a/k/a/my baby):aimeeyork xoxoxo |
Thank God for happy endings! |
That must have made yo crazy.. WOW..TO CLOSE...I ALWAYS HAVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN MINE ARE OUT. THEY SOMETIMES ARE SO FOCUSED ON WHERE THEY WANT TO GO AT THAT MOMENT ,I'VE SEEN THEM RUN RIGHT TWARDS MY NEIGHBORS OR MY SONS CAR WHEN THEY'RE PULLING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY. THEY ARE TOO FAST SOMETIMES,WE MISS IT...HAVE TO BE ON YOUR TOES ALL THE TIME. |
The thing is. that you know to look around when you open the door, and you know yourself how careful you will be from now on. On the other hand, you can never be sure of other people, like visitors, your own relatives, ect. In my case, my husband gets the guys toghether for barbecues, and I have to cage poor trixie while that is going on. It is the only way I"know she wont run away. |
That is soooo scary! My boys went through a phase when they were around a year old that everytime the door even opened they somehow got out! It was crazy!! I am soooo glad they have seemed to outgrow it, it was scary for me everyday when they got out and took off in opposite directions of course. Im soooo glad Maggie May is home and safe! :) |

Yikes! I am so glad you got him back safely! Maggie is a bird chaser too. When we got for walks she is constantly trying to get at one. I remember you posting about this. We have a gate across the stairs, I am thinking about connecting a gate to that across to the front door for this reason. |

Its so easy for these little guys to dash right by us without even noticing them. Im so glad your husband saw her.... |
Oh man, that's scary! Luckily, with Jackson, he's not a "darter." He won't just RUN out the door under my feet or anything. He usually looks up at me first to see what I'm gonna do, lol. And most of the time if I am walking out front or outside for something, I just say "come on" and he comes out with me unleashed and unfenced and doesn't go far. But we used to have a Golden Retriever that would just RUN outside and I remember she was missing for 2 days and finally just found her way home... it was scary! |

What I was really worried about is that she may have wondered around and since the neighborhood is so isolated and dark, no one would have been able to spot her until morning and by then who knows what she would have gotten into! |

This happened to me in a funnier way recently. I live in an apartment building. I ran downstairs to get my mail, making sure to close the door behind me quickly. I ran down two flights of stairs, got my mail, locked my box and turned around. Who do you suppose was standing RIGHT behind me, pleased as punch with himself? I know if can be so scary when it seems like one misstep, and you could lose them. I took Thor's leash off to put him in the car the other day, and he decided it would be a good time to run off and sniff a tree. I was kind of laughing until he decided that it would be more fun to run into the street. And I saw a bus coming!! I was so scared, I screamed NO at Thor, and scared the heck out of him so he froze before he stepped out into traffic. I seriously think my heart stopped for a miunute. |
