Lets help each other...when dealing with RUDE People!!! I have seen so many threads on here lately about RUDE people and their mean, unsolicited comments!! So please share how you have dealt with someone....friend, family or stranger....when they have made rude remarks about your yorkie? Thanks for sharing!! I think we need to stick together and ARM ourselves when facing uneducated mean spirited people that have nothing nice to say about our dear precious babies!!!:) |
Unless you catch me on a bad day, I chalk it up to pure ignorance. I think the best bet is to ignore it or call them out on it, being curt in my reply. Most people aren't prepared to be tested on their stupidity or ignorance. |
I agree! Having a plan is the way to go! I just remember being a large dog owner, thinking small dogs were cute. Never would I go out of my way to be rude. Uneducated people have strong opinions because they do not know any better. I can just imagine the first time I go to the mall with Mia's new dog stroller. Better get the plan ready!! Waiting to hear all of the ideas! |
I usually try not to argue with idiots, so sometimes I just ignore stupid comments...but I do voice my feelings/opinions, if it's something I am passionate about... |
I don't know if you saw my post about Missy getting laughed at yesterday, but she was laughed at again today! The lady who laughed at her today had a *little* more tact then the lady from yesterday, but still. Why is a tiny dog so funny? I don't get it! I'm starting to get sick of it, so today for the first time EVER, I was a "YORKIE SNOB". I saw two ladies approaching me at the park and I quickly scooped Missy up and walked away :p I don't know if they had good intentions or bad, I just didn't want to hear ANY of it. My dog is not a freak of nature for everyone to laugh at, point at, and gawk at. Anyways, it felt good to be a "Yorkie snob". Quite honestly, I've been getting sick of all the attention that Missy attracts. It gets tiresome. (I think all the wacko's are coming out because of the warmer weather) |

LOL That's exactly what I mean....I think it's good to be prepared....and have nice "come backs".....and giving them something to think about....without loosing our composure!! "Say it with a smile" is my motto!!! :D |

Shaunna...yes I saw your Thread....I cannot believe someone else was laughing today....actually it was YOUR thread that made me curious...to open this one up.... Good for you!! Your baby is absolutely precious!!! |
Farmers Market-Des Moines Iowa. Geez look at that women and that dog! It is too hot for a dog at the farmers market! My comment "Are you for real? Do you think I care about your opionion and my dog? Not so much have a great Saturday." |
Maybe we should say, oh sorry if she is bothering you, I gave her nanny the day off. She gets today and Christmas off. What was I to do? And walk away!! Give them something to think about! |
I've been lucky so far with strangers saying anything rude about my Suzi:) , However, i've gotten it from family:mad: imo it is harder to deal with when it comes from one of them, because it's more personal. I've had my brother dicipline Suzi, which has made my blood BOIL! He behaved like a complete wimp because Suzi jumped on his legs when he wore shorts, He was so scared she was going to scratch him! BFD:thumbdown He was practically yelling at my poor little baby , then just today, he thought it was cute to Stomp his feet real loud on the kitchen floor like a jack ass, and scare my baby to death.... She came running to me down the hallway, as if to say mommmy.... Needing comfort, than she headed straight for my room. I asked him why he did that? Oh just to see what she would do. Well it scared her , dummy! I told him that she hates you NOW! I do not like it when he teases her, and treats her like Crap, or tries to punish her, it is not HIS dog. I might be to soft on her, however, it is not his place to come to my h ome and start in on my little Yorkie. Yes, she is a very smart dog.. That does not mean that that gives him the right to try and train her! She still is my girl, and my reponsibility. Yes, it pissess me off. Family does get in the way and over steps their boundaries, don't they? even though they are well meaning? |
Yep I hear you. I would pick up the dog, and tell him to get a life! I know it is hard with family, but don't make me choose anyone over my dog! It might not happen! |
You CAN NOT change anyone else's behavior. Alll you have control over is your own behavior and reations!! Keep your head held high and prance like your yorkie would! Don't even give these people the time or day or waste your time giving them any of your energy at all! Michele :-) |
I totally agree! Many of you may have been following Ellie's story...if not, check it out...if so, I think this will anger you as much as it did me! Just this week, I had family in from out of town. Ellie was smack in the middle of her rough patch and I had someone tell me that I was being too easy on her. This person proceeded to try to take my baby outside to use the potty knowing full well that she was only 5 weeks old, sick from her worming, and NO shots! When I tried to politely remind her of all of this she replied that I was going to make her into a pansy dog!...To that I replied that I would be more than happy to gather her bags and call the hotel to let them know she would be needing a room if she couldn't respect my home and my baby! |

Unfortunately, I don't think people will ever change. All you can do is ignore them and not let them know it bothers us. Let them have their furniture-chewing shedders who leave poops the size of basketballs all over the yard and need hours of exercise every day or they pick up bad habits and get fat. I'll take a dog that fits my lifestyle any day. I've never cared what people say. Eddie usually shuts them up because he's smarter and better mannered than their dogs. But I was just as proud of my yapper, Jack, because he didn't care what they said either. He was too busy being happy. |

I've not really had rude comments from strangers, but my sister's boyfriend thinks it's hilarious to take the p*&% out of Twinkle, and now Wicket because they are small dogs. He finds it especially funny if he sees my Dh walking Twinkle, because he's a big, heavily tattooed guy and there's Twink in her pink coat, pink diamante harness and lead. When my sister's boyfriend bought a ridiculously expensive huge cross-breed dog, my hubby asked him, 'Wouldn't it have been cheaper to stuff a sock down there?' It was so funny! My husband doesn't need a great big dog to feel like a man :p |
The only experience with rudeness towards Genghis came from my own family as well! It was right after I got Genghis and I snuck him into my grandfathers 90th birthday (my grandfather knew, he loves the pup, but it was at a Chinese Restaurant). I was pretty quiet about it he was in his monkey carrier under the table mostly taking a nap. It was the first time most of my family met Genghis and mostly everyone was excited to see Genghis, however on 5 separate occasions from 5 different people, a "joke" about not letting Genghis out of the bag or he might be served for dinner, or "I see you've brought dessert". It got pretty annoying. I just ignored them, and probably rolled my eyes. |
Several of my DHs friends refer to Lucy as "the ankle biter". DH quipped the other day "Be careful ... we've trained her only to bite rude people ... but she now aims higher!" (friends retreated with 'ouch' looks on their faces). |

If someone started to say something about my baby Jemma, I would ask them if they watch movies. Most will say yes. So I'd just say when a movie with a dog comes out, watch it. You just met a celebrity. And I'd walk away. If that didn't work, well I'm from Jersey so our tongues have sharp teeth. Carol and baby Jemma |

Sometimes I think it's Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears etc that have given these poor little dogs a bad rap. From what it looks like they pretty much only parade the dogs around for a certain look (that doesn't do the dogs any favors) and then cast them aside any other time. Plus can you imagine how terrifying it must be for a little dog to have all of those people from the media swarming with camera flashes and yelling? No one has really said much about my Roxie that's rude (my dad has made a few comments, but he's my dad and I know he means no harm. he actually likes her I can see it on his face) but if strangers do I'll probably just keep on keepin on and ignore them. |
I meant to comment yesterday Shaunna on your post about Missy but it seems I've just been speed reading on here lately. Anyway, just wanted to say that when I read it, I too got angry because Missy is just about the sweetest lil' Yorkie out there (simply adorable!) and I can't imagine anyone snickering or making a snide remark UNLESS they were jealous! BUT the first vision that came to mind when I read your post was seeing little Missy out there in the prettiest little T-Shirt with the saying.... and I don't mean to offend anyone... "Mean People Suck" written on it...:p  :D |

I love this, get it all out... This is great lady's I am glad it is not just me. I come on here and on Maltesetalk.com . If you think it is rude people on here, man you should see the ladies on maltesetalk they can be down right mean. I am a breeder in lower Alabama and breed Maltese and Yorkies. I have learned that when you say you are a breeder everyone gets mad that think with out knowing you that you are a bad person. And I am not. I have great dogs, and there is just as many good breeders as bad, you just never hear of the good ones. But I have had some people get very rude to me, mostly on Maltesetalk when I was going to sell one of my adult Maltese females that had to be spayed. I caught hell on that and still get it. They don't think I should sell her I should give her away, but I paid to have her spayed and other vet bills. I can't just give her away. anyway I just thought if someone did want her they would not write, but man I was wrong. I tried telling them I was not trying to make money off of her, that I have over $1200 in her and never was able to have any puppies becuase she had to be spaied. I was asking $500 just to get something out of her. I did not know the hell I was going to get for that. Ok thank you I just needed to get that out. Oh PS I would never come off of a price of a puppy or adult with someone that is being rude, would you!!!! hellooooo I will keep her before I have some crazy person getting my dog and would not dare want to see that person at my front door!!!! |
