Jaxon is the love of my life but I am honestly ready to sell him! He is 1 year old and OFF THE CHAIN! He still pees in his crate (even though its blocked off to the point where he would not want to lay in his pee... BUT HE DOES ANYWAY), he gets into everything and its not a happy time for us when he is out of his crate! He has been neutered (which I thought would calm him down)... and he still isn't quite right!! PLEASE HELP ME! Also, how do you make them let you know they need to pee? I take him out all the time but he still has accidents even after a year! We tried the bell on the door and saying "outside" every time we went out.. nothing has worked!!!

I remember someone telling me a long time ago that Yorkies were one of the more difficult breeds to housetrain. I don't know if this is true or not, but I could believe it! I assume you've already tried puppy pads and obviously crate training to no avail, but have you considered litter box training? Silvia has a larger-than-normal cage with a litter box in it, which she uses instead of using the floor of her crate. I know it's not the standard for crate training, but it worked best for me and it has now for four and a half years. The only time Silvia has an accident in the house is when her crate door is accidently shut or when she wants us to change her litter. It gives an alternative to pottying in the crate floor and it's easy to clean up. We use this as a permanant solution, as in Silvia never goes outside to potty. Now, if we take her outside or we go somewhere, she has no problem pottying outside, but it's not her norm. Anyway, just a thought. Hmmm So you keep the space in his crate small enough for him to lay down.. How often are you taking him out? Do you have him confined to a small space when he is out of the crate? I would watch for the signs he has to pee. Circling, anxiety,sniffing. As a rule I take mine out when they wake up, about 10 minutes after they eat, as soon as they look like they are done playing, and about every hour. Do you make a big deal when he pees outside? I always say "Good girl/boy!" and shower them with love and kisses when they go. Some people give their pups treats when they go outside. Just be patient and persistent. Good luck..I heard yorkies take a long time to potty train, but a year is a long time!!

Welcome, Jaxon! These little guys can be VERY tough to potty train. I didn't myself believe how hard it was until I really started working on Thor. If you go into the training section, you will find, oh, one million threads on different potty training methods.

Why don't you go there and post more specifically about behavior problems you're having and we'll try to help you out!
