What attracted you to yorkies??? What made you choose the them over all the others |
Well, to tell you the truth, I didn't want a yorkie, my husband did. I wanted anything BUT a yorkie because I always thought of them as spoiled, pampered, little fru-fru dogs. Yes, the are spoiled, but their personalities are completely different than my first opinion and now I'm hooked. Chip is my little adventurer and he'll go swimming in the Potomac River... he shows no fear and is protective of his family, yet is incredibly loving. Smokey is my lovable goof ball. They are all just so different, you can't help but love them! |
I loved their long flowing hair and big beautiful eyes. The fact that they don't shed or smell and are small, love bugs. |
I owned a maltese which I love the breed but its a hassle keeping the hair white and clean. I chose the yorkie next because like the maltese they are beautiful, smart and affectionate. I also reside in an apt and a small breed was best for my family and myself. |
I never thought I would have a dog in the house. My 13 yr. old daughter had been wanting a puppy for several years and we said NO dog in the house. My friend had a litter of yorkie pups. She had to talk us into getting one for my daughter. We give in. We now have 3 yorkies and we love them to death. The fact they don't shed was a seller for me. |
One of my favorite shows when I was younger was Green Acres. Liza (Zsa Zsa Gabore) was the pampered wife and she had a beautiful little Yorkie...I fell in love right then! I never saw one in real life until junior high...my best friend's sister had a little female and I used to love it when Eva would come for visits to Pattie's house. As soon as I got on my own I got a Yorkie and I've had them in my home for 27 years now. :) |
Well I like pretty things:rolleyes: no really, I fell in love with Yorkies and the Maltese breed when I was a young child because I just can't get over their cuteness when I watched the dog shows. I love their long flowing coats and they were just the prettiest out of all the other breeds. |
Mini Pitbull with Long Hair My Father was a Dog Lover and I grew up w/Dogs so Naturally I Love all Dogs, I used to Breed Pitbulls and I have always had a Dog both purebreds and Mutts. I never liked small Dogs, until I met/saw a Yorkie in person, it was so Friendly, smart and affectionate and he strutted around like he was in a Parade he was so proud and Happy........not Barking or trying to attack me? I had heard so many bad things about them but this one was the exception. That was on a Thursday afternoon and by that Sunday Night I was going to the Airport to pick up my first Yorkie, that was 5 yrs. ago and I now have 3 of them! They are so Beautiful, Regal and Loyal, easy to Train. They are the Best Bed warmers! They are very portable and Travel well both in the car and on Airplanes and they manage to put a smile on everyone's face that they come across. I spend as much time w/them as possible they truly are my little Companions 24/7. They are Fierce when they need to be, they are mini Pitbulls w/long hair. |
I've always thought they were gorgeous, and when a co-worker got one, I realized they were also very smart, absolutely adorable, and very fun to be around! I live in an apartment, and the characteristics plus the small size is really perfect for my lifestyle! Hopefully in a couple of years I'll be able to get a playmate for my Kya! |
We always saw ourselves as "large" dog people! Then I went to visit my sister out of town..and just fell in love with her precious baby Sophie! I couldn't believe such a LARGE personality came from such a tiny package.....Suddenly after only a couple days... I found myself desperate for a baby of my own...my hubby ofcourse agreed only to placate me...but now he's TOTALLY HOOKED on them too!!! The no-shedding is just a bonus! |
I was recovering from cancer back in 1992 when we visited my sister in law. She had just gotten a new little dog, a Yorkie. I feel in love with that little dog!!! We had always had Shelties but I wanted a Yorkie so badly!! My husband consented to getting a Yorkie as I was so depressed with all my cancer treatment. We've had Yorkies since then!! We got two this last time and they are a delight!! They are so loving and they don't shed!! Both of them are in my lap as I'm typing this message!!! LOL!! SandyGrace |
I was actually looking for a Skye Terrier in the dove gray color. I couldnt find a Skye and went to look at a litter of Yorkies and fell in love with Amy!!:) |
I never did..... ......care for the "look" much, but after seeing them as puppies and the adults with the puppy cut I found them to be too cute. My Mom wanted one so I bought her one and OMG...they are wonderful little clowns and lovers. Mime knocks on the door with her head to get you to open it...true! She has also learned how to "pick" my Mom's jacket pocket of paper and napkins....her fav thing to rip apart. I love my littlel clown to death :animal-pa |
I have been an animal lover forevvvver, but unfortunately my parents are NOT. I begged and begged for a dog every single day of my life but they would not give in. I bought myself books and read about every single dog breed, earmarking the pages of the breeds I liked. Finally when I was 15, I decided on the Yorkshire Terrier. They were small, adorable, didn't shed, and were hypoallergenic (my dad alwayys claims to be allergic.) I had moved 12 times for my dad's career and was having trouble making friends at my new school, so finally he gave in let me get a dog. He only agreed because of the breed I picked (he thought he wouldn't have to see her since she was so small.) Needless to say, Roxie now sleeps in a cat bed in my parent's bed. |
i've always wanted a dog, so when i finally got my own apt, i read that yorkies are great for apt dwellers. after getting my first yorkie, i became passionate about the breed and became obsessed, that i went and got another one. now i have two and i absolutely love it. they're my life! |
to fill a void we got yogurt in hopes of him filling the giant emptiness in our lives when dad left. my mom was really against getting him, but i went ahead anyways because of mom's pessimistic tendencies. i wanted something yappy, needy, full of life at the same time could be a couch potato. what better than a yorkie! --- i had a shi-tzu when i was little. he was really arrogant and independent. he would only come to me when HE feels like it. now yogurt's become such a center piece in our family :D my mom doesnt know much about taking care of dogs. she's been taking care of yogurt like an enfant. she has a chart of his weekly weights (yes she weighs him once a week) she gets into panic mode when his weight drops but when he is actually sick, shes clueless....just like when yogurt lost his hair on his nose ridge due to leather ear she thought he was just balding prematurely !! |
It was their 'look' that first inspired me to research the breed and then after reading all about them I decided they were the perfect dogs for us, small, energetic, full of personality, and non-shedding. After one I was hooked, and have just added another....I love my them both so much xxx xx |
We have always had loads of pets, from rabbits, hamsters, snakes, parrots, parakeets, cats and dogs and when I went to university, I stayed in a res for 2 years. Obviously I couldn't have a pet in the res, but I missed having something to cuddle so much. Then a friend told me about hypo-allergenic dogs and from then on, I spent my spare time doing research and daydreaming. I wanted to get the perfect dog for when I moved out of res. Well, I did!! I got Cash and now (two years later) I have June as well. Yorkies are just so cute, all different personalities and they are really difficult NOT to love;) I wouldn't change a thing! |
I was attracted to the Yorkshire Terrier breed, because I think they are one of the prettiest toy dog breeds. I like their color and long flowing hair. In addition, I wanted a small dog I could pamper and lay on my lap like my Shih Tzu. Yorkies are one of the breeds you can dress up with cute outfits and beautiful bows. I like their spunky personality. My Yorkie is a perfect companion for my Shih Tzu and me. He plays fetch and likes learning new tricks. My Yorkie and Shih Tzu are two sweet dogs that follow me around my house and give me many kisses. |
:animal-paI tell everyone that a Yorkie is the best anti-depressent there is. I have a dear friend who lost her husband and her two Yorkies she told me helped her through it. Anyway I retired last year to care for my father who was dying from dementia and when he passed I went into deep depression. My DH decided for me it was time I got a puppy. I had poms while raising my children but had said when the last one passed I would not get another until I retired. That being said I thought of my friend and her Yorkies. Hers were such little dolls so I told DH I wanted a Yorkie and here I am today. Over my depression (well most all of it) and so blissfully happy with my little guy. And I have to say this thanks so much YT members you have all been wonderful here and surfing this site has helped tremendously to take my mind off of other life issues. I love Yorkies and YT. :doghouse:Charlene:animal-paLaddy's Mama:doghouse::bunnysmiley3:Have a Wonderful Easter:eggs: |
I don't really know, honestly. I've always been an animal lover and we've always had dogs and cats in our houses growing up (among guinea pigs, hamsters, etc) But suddenly, I decided I wanted my OWN dog. I researched a few different options and breeds but I was semi-limited as my step-dad is allergic and I still live at home while in college. So I need a little shedding dogs. Yorkies seemed like the best! I couldn't be happier with my decision. I love the little guy. |
Y- your faithful friend O- obedient R- ribbons for hair K- king of the house I- intelligent E- endless fun Yorkies leave paw prints on our hearts:Pawprint: |
I just loved their overall appearance, their winning attitude/temperament, their gorgeous liquid eyes and their beautiful hair. The fact that they don't have that doggy odor nor shed hair was also a plus. Plus, they are so loving and lovable. |
:animal36 Their dazzleing beauty is to die for Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |
I have always loved toy dogs, but I fell in love with the yorkie a few years ago after doing some research and matching my personality with the breed. I wanted a dog that was needy and would be there for me no matter what. I love the fact that they are so portable and do so well with everything! Couver is my best friend and constant tag along. I would not change anything about him! |
I had never really thought about owning a yorkie. My husband and I always had BIG dogs. Well after they passed away we decided to downsize and get a smaller breed. My mom had a yorkie so I knew about the yorkie breed. We now have 2 and I love them.. |
I am fully disabled and was allowed to bring home a service dog. I started doing research on specific toy breeds. We live in an apt. complex and needed a perfect match for my son and I whi is also disabled. He is a teenager. I had it narrowed down to a Shih Tzu or a Yorkie. I had not ever owned a puppy on my own before. This was going to be a new experience. i felt confident though, because I am home 24/7. I kept going back to the yorkie puppies and pictures of them all of them and adult pictures. That is how I decided I was going to bring a yorkie home to our family. The first time i ever saw A Yorkie puppy, I instantly was in love. I could not believe how precious a yorkie was in real life. How amazing and beautiful a Yorkie is :) It was love at first sight. From that very first second, I was Hooked, forever! ;) |
I think the fact that they don't shed was a real selling point for me..... |
I have always loved their look and have wanted one since I was in my early 20's (now early 40's). We have one adult child moved out, and 2 at home but in college so they are never hear. I finally decided now was the time since I was going through "almost" empty nest syndrome and I could take advance of my daughter's school schedule to help house break since I work all day. It has worked out perfectly for that since they are not here longer than maybe a couple of hours by themselves and this has helped with housebreaking. My DH hated small dogs and really wanted nothing to do with the caring of them at first. Now he is totally a yorkie man and loves these dogs more than me (well maybe almost more than me). |
 Yorkies...what's not to love. I have always wanted one since I was a little girl. I had 8 miscarriages, My kids were getting older and started to move out. It's actually cheaper to care for a yorkie than another baby. They really helped me get out of my funk! They're my best friends, my babies, my life long dream!:p |
