Girls v's Boys I am just about to get my first Yorkie puppy and I was just wondering which sex to get. Im having a hard time deciding so if anyone could help me by letting me know of their experiences with either sex I'd be really grateful. |

I think the best thing is to go look and meet some puppies or dogs and see who you bond with. This weeks Dog Whisperer had a great episode and part of it was how to pick the right dog for you. I would suggest that since your not totally decided on which sex to choose from...that you go to the breeders and play with the puppies....let one choose you!!! |
I like them both, but if I had to choose - I would pick a male! They are sooo sweet and don't have attitudes like the females can go through. I was showing my girl and she was doing great as a puppy. But as soon as she hit the teenage stage - she did not want to do anything. She went through what I call the terrible 2's but in dog form. Boys are just so laid back. Also the boys seem closer to me and our girls are closer to my hubby. So you need to keep checking into it. And .... I know that girls are Really hard to find. Everyone wants a female it seems like. It is a lot easier to get a gorgeous boy!! |
I agree you will get lots of opinons. They say males are more loving...well my Sam who is a male is not loving at all. I also have a female yorkie 12 weeks old so far she isn't too loveable because it seems she is so busy playing she doesn't have time for any lovey dovey stuff...lol |

Just get one of each.;) If you are getting a puppy and plan on having him neutered you probably won't have much trouble with the humping. Actually, we have to watch our girl when there's a large stuffed animal around, she tries to hump. |
Boys are thought to be more affectionate. On the other hand, girls have much better outfit options! Which do you want more, love or fashion? ;) Re: humping. Thor has never humped, but he does sometimes, ah, orally pleasure himself. And he likes to mark outside. I never thought I would get a boy dog because I didn't want to deal with that stuff. The thing is, when its YOUR dog, it's no big deal. The grossest things about dog is their poop, and there's no getting around that one, sadly. |

I have a male yorkie and I agree with the comments thus far...he is very affectionate, loves to be with you all the times, I call him my shadow sometimes. With the humping - that was a concern of mine also but once he was neutered, he hasn't really hump anything except his stuffed animal once. With male dogs, they do mark though, I have found that Duke marks outside and have marked inside after he was neutered. But again like someone mentioned before, if it's your dog, they can do no wrong so go and play with a few to see which one catches your attention. |

Among people that I consider experts in the breed, I'm told that males are more affectionate in general, and females are moodier. There are great individual differences, but this is a rule of thumb. Joey's a real cuddler, and I love that about him. The main time I think I want a girl is when I see some of the fabulous dresses, some of our vendors make, dresses and rufflie panties get me every time. I still do the topknot on Joey, but some people don't think a boy looks right in a topknot, so maybe this is something you want to consider when choosing a sex. If you're really into clothes, girls are definitely more fun. I'm not that concerned with humping, unless they try humping a human, then you should always tell them "no." Females as well as males will hump by the way, Joey stopped humping his stuffed animal about a month after he was neutered, and no intervention was necessary. :D |
