Am I a monster? Okay, so normally I don't dress Thor up in anything but a harness. The weather here has been quite nice, so there's been no need. However, today it was spritzing, and I figured what the heck, let's put on Thor's little orange boots and his rain coat. I guess it's been some time since Thor has worn the shoes, because he was doing the bootie high step. You know what I'm talking about. He generally walks a lot slower while he's wearing them, but he seemed comfortable enough - ears perked, tail up. Anyway, as we are walking across the street, a woman yells from her car, "Take those boots of that dog, you stupid... woman!" Normally I would shrug this off, but as I walked Thor around, jaws were dropping. EVERYONE was staring. A number of people stopped to say how cute he was, but a number of people looked pretty horrified. It was quite embarrassing. I didn't think Thor looked THAT bizarre. His raincoat is very practical, with reflective lights. I will grant that both the coat and the shoes are bright orange, and he was shuffling a little bit, it's not like he was in chainmail and buttless chaps, which is more than I can say for some of the humans walking around this city. I guess that's the other thing. This is San Francisco. We have homeless people who dress up like trees. Men go out wearing nothing but a pink tutu. Is a dog in a raincoat and shoes so strange? I thought he looked cute! :( |
Maybe they were a little concerned because orange isn't Thor's color. It happens often enough. I bet they were just a little concerned that you chose an unflattering color for his particular physique. The other lady was probably a random crazy. We have those in TN too. My advice is to experiment with a few colors.... maybe Thor is a winter;) |
LOL, excuse me while I wipe the picture of Thor in chainmail and butless chaps from my mind.:eyetearss:eyetearss:eyetearssWhat an image!!!! Ahem. Okay, seriously. It was raining and you put him in a raincoat and boots???!! How could anyone think that was anything but practical and adorable! There are always those that will scoff. May I suggest you and Thor just high-step right on past them. P.S. I'd love to see a pic of him in his raincoat and boots!:D |
:lol tears:lol tearsmy side :eyetearss:lol tears I am not laughing at Thor I am laughing at the way you told the story. OMG that is sooo funny!!! NO your not a monster, don't worry some people don't have a fashion sense. |
Awww! I think it sounds like he looked very cute. I'd wear it on my babies if I had it. They hate walking in the rain. Don't worry about what that rude lady said she's ignorant!!!! |
I don't think you are a monster at all!! i have seen pics of Thor and hes soooooo cute so i'm sure he looked wicked cute in his raincoat and boots!! I would dress Bria in a raincoat and boots if i had them...maybe not orange..but yeah you should have yelled back to that lady if you don't like it stop looking!! |
Oh I bet Thor looked adorable! Don't listen to what other people say... so many people make fun of me for even putting t-shirts on Layla! You know your dog, they don't. I bet Thor enjoys not getting soaked! I think boots on dogs are so cute! |
I think that in order to answer your question properly, we need to see pictures of Thor in his raincoat and boots. |
For the lady who yelled at you: Some people just have nothing better to do then get in other people's business. My mother says "if it's not your business then mind your business." I mean my goodness there are plenty of things going on in this world for that woman to yell about and a yorkie in boots and a raincoat is not one of them. People need to refocus their anger and the things that bother them. |
LMAO sorry I had to laugh because I am in Frisco every weekend (my 10 yr old dances out there) and I totally know what you mean hahaahhahahaha... NO A DOG IN A RAINCOAT AND BOOTS ISN'T THAT BAD!! I have seen with my own two eyes the tutu people, Homeless people making burritos out of trash, People wearing paperbags and biker shorts, Halloween costumes in December and People wearing a cape and spandex haha... so NO IT ISN'T ALL THAT UNUSUAL TO SEE A YORKIE WEARING BOOTS AND A COAT .. maybe they were mad because it wasn't enough He needed the Pink TuTu Dang it!!! Thanks I needed that laugh! The original post and follow on responses have me cracking up. I laughed so hard, my little Ben sat there cocking his head from side to side -- plain to see that he thinks I am crazy. I second the request for pictures too! I am sure he is adorable in any outfit. |
Ha ha, thanks you guys. I am feeling better. I think you may be right that people wanted to see Thor in a more flattering color. Sounds like I need to get him some more gear in basic black. ;) Thor's at doggy daycare today, but I'll try to post a picture of him (looking FABULOUS) tonight. |

hehe Let him be a dog no clothes or maybe a sensible little back jacket when the weather is below freezing Trim him to accentuate his good points, he has more than enough hair to play with, Make him look like a dog I bet he has got the right hump with ginger heads laughing at him Send him over to me within two days, he can come to Wharfedale in Yorkshire with Alfie and me In Future trimmed fur only and let him loose on anyone who laughs Grrrrgh! |
Thor in San Francisco, in rain boots and coat. I love that sentence!! It says it all. You love him, and want to keep him dry and comfy. San Francisco people that heckle you are nuts! I think he needs a pink tutu!! (JK) I walk around our mall for exercise. Often I take Mia, with her harness dress on. Yesterday 2 ladies looked at us and said, "Oh what a shame" shaking their heads in disgust. It hurt my feelings at first, but then I shook it off. Now I am prepared. Should I end up in that situation again I will say, yes it is a shame, they didn't have that dress in my size! People that aren't dog loves will never understand why we do what we do. It really does not matter one bit! |
They were probably just jealous! People are so cruel and annoying. |
OP & sandyapk...these old coots do NOT know style & suck at the fine art of haute couture!!!! Nuff said...... |
I bet Thor looked cute.. I live a little north of San Francisco and when I take Buttons on his walk tonight I am putting him in his Camo raincoat. And I could care less what people think, he's dry and comfy and when we get home he doesn't smell like a wet dog. I bet the lady that yelled wouldn't give a second look at the guy in chaps (with a g-string)and black vest I saw the other day. What a site. But it is the City. |
awww, it sounds like he looked adorable! Don't listen to that crazy women! Usually ppl that call eachother such mean things like that have something going really wrong in their own lifes, and she was probably trying to make yours just as bad by calling you mean names like that!! She is the stupid women!!!!! |
Awwwww i bet he was cute!!! Everyone here ooo awwws over what my doggies are wearing!!! They poke their heads over the fence daily to see if they are wearing something new!!! Sounds like people over there arent quite as dog loving :thumbdown |
Where is our picture? |
Sounds cute to me! I do have to admit though, before I got Roxie I always thought it was silly for people to dress their dogs in clothes but I didn't think anything of a bandana. Then I got Roxie. I eat those thoughts because now I make her clothes. An even more funny thing is even the guys in my house think she looks so cute all dressed up. She prances around for them when they tell her how pretty she is. She loves the attention. This woman was very rude to express her thoughts to you in that manner. I see all of the pics on here and I want more for her. It's just adorable to me now to dress her up and have matching bows in her hair. Those are people who just don't understand the joys of having a yorkie!! |
I have to agree with Roxies Mom....before I got my yorkies...I did think it was silly to dress dogs up....and I even kidded my sister a bit... (yes I do feel bad about that..lol) However as soon as I was won over by the absolute darling personalities of the Yorkie breed and got my own.(well now I have 2).....I started dressing them IMMEDIATELY!!! So I guess we just have to keep in mind...that not EVERYONE will agree with our choice to keep our babies warm, and dry, etc....so we have to have thicker skin....and not let anything RUDE people might say bother us!!! :) I can't wait to see Thor in his raincoat and boots!! lol :D |
I really want to see a pic!!! I bet he was adorable! The next time someone says something about dressing Thor up, give them my number!!! Yorkies don't have undercoats like most dogs. It would be like us walking in the rain and not covering our heads! Thor would've been wet and cold and probably would have gotten sick! That lady was just plain ignorant!!! People like that don't like people like me...I would have loved to have been there!!!:p |

But seriously, Thor is your baby and it's your prerogative. Initially when we got Tucker we were of the "dogs don't wear clothes" mindset but (a) it gets cold in Massachusetts and (b) Tucker has severe allergies so if we don't keep him clothed, he'll shred himself to pieces. I can't help it if he looks adorable in the process of helping to maintain his quality of life! Shrug them off, it's not worth it! |
Oh, please..... People give me the Hairy Eyeball when they see Amelia in a pink sweater and a bow. It's 30 degrees. She'll freeze if she isn't wearing something. My mom almost got her a little yellow ducky raincoat and boots last week. :) And it counts on who's IN the chaps...... ;) |

would LOVE to see a pic of him in his outfit.... sounds cute... |
ok look I vote for the chainmalls and butless chaps lol they might not object to that ...;) ps I don't know what chainmalls are hehe:cool: |
I bet Thor looked very cute and it sounds like he was proud of his outfit. My guess is the glares were glares of jealousy, Thor was better dresssed. |
