Anyone with larger yorkies?

I am a proud mom of 3 yorkies and one of which happens to be a "large", silver and blonde girl. I have had people ask me so many times "What kind of dog is that?" or "Is THAT a yorkie?". It sounds almost ugly when they say it while looking at her. Ally is about 16 lbs; she is muscular, not chubby at all. I am not into showing dogs, but I know she isnt the standard yorkie. I have a male that is almost 5 lbs and he has the "typical" yorkie appearance. Ally definitely has the personality though, and I love her no matter how she looks. I am just out to find anyone who has a larger yorkie that I can see pictures of?? I have seen a couple here or there but if any of you have a larger yorkie, maybe even silver and blonde please let me know if I may look at your pictures?? THANKS SO MUCH for allowing me to be nosey! :aimeeyork

My Pao is 10lbs worth of cutie pie :). I also usually get the he is big comment. In Canada, I have yet to see a Yorkie that is bigger than he is. All of them are half his size. They are 5lbs or under so Pao is a giant compared to them. On the other hand, he gets a lot of compliments for his silky fur and colouring. He has real nice black and tan colouring.

Gingergirlsmom 04-09-2009 12:37 PM

Welcome to the Teapot club!

Ginger and Bernie are both around 13-15 lbs. I used to obsess on their weight and weigh them every chance I got. LOL, now I can't even recall exactly how much that is. They are in good shape physically, just big for yorkies. Bernie is taller than Ginger by about 2 inches, people really question his breed.;):D I think they are perfect.:)

My Barley is 9 lbs. Which I'm thrilled with. When I rescued him two months ago he was 6 lbs and skin & bones.

Please, ignore these people when they make the remarks about your girl's size. Some people are just ignorant to how mother nature works. These are probably the same people who will tell you they want or have a "teacup" Yorkie. Which I jump on right away and say that's not an AKC recognized standard for size. :D

I'm not very computer savvy so I don't know how to make my photos smaller to add to my posts. But if you go to my profile and look through my albums you'll see my lovies. :animal36

Hi from down South -

I have Cali Girl, (picture in avatar) she is 1 yr & 11 months, 2 in May, and she is a lean mean 14 pounds of all muscle and no fat, and goes ninety to nothing all the time. She was a rescue. We love our little big girl to death. Personally, I wouldn't have one under 9-10 pounds. They're a bit too fragile for me and my family.

Too cute! They had to be seperated a birth ;) So funny how they have the same expressions. I got Barley from a rescue group who go to shelters in the south and adopt dogs that they think they can find homes for. So I don't know much about him (I don't talk with his rescue group as I was so upset over the horrible condition he was in when I got him from them. I'm just grateful God got him to me so I can make sure that never happens again.)

Where's you get Bailey? How old is he? We think Barley's around two.

Ooops, yours is Barley... evidently I need glasses! I got mine from a breeder... BUT... she was a BYB which I didn't know at the time! I didn't even know the term or had even heard of BYB's or puppymill's for that matter until I came to YT. I just love my little baby sooooooo much! he's soooooooooo sweet and loving... :)

Yorkiegrl1983 04-09-2009 01:32 PM

WOW, I am blown away with you all!! SO very sweet and kind!! All of your babies are beauitful too!! Seriously I was trying to write all your usernames down so I could tell ya all, then I decided it was easier to mass message! I am not upset or mad when people say things, I used to get discouraged when I was a new yorkie mom because I didnt know better, But my Ally is perfect!! My new rescued yorkie is about 8 lbs now and he is 7 months old, So I have a feeling he will be large also!! As long as they are healthy I could care less. Thanks to you all and I am going to love looking at your pix!!

rtsmichele 04-09-2009 01:39 PM

I have 4 yorkies:

Tia Maria - 19 lbs (should be about 16 but is tubby) - her littermate is 7 lbs and according to her birthweight she was supposed to be about 6.5 - 7 lbs.

Cooper - 6.5 pounds

Oliver - 9.9 pounds - according to birthweight should have been about 3.5-4 pounds

Abbi (newest - 6 months old) - 1.4 pounds at the vets two weeks ago. Should be about 2-2.5 pounds fully grown, but as you can see from my other dogs - I seem to grow them big, so I'm not holding my breath!!

I don't have pictures on this computer, but will upload some to my photo album when I am signed on to my other computer.

Michele :-)

JackieJack 04-09-2009 02:07 PM

Yep my Jack was big too! He was 12-14 lbs. I loved his size and I am looking for another one since we just lost our Jack on Sat and I want another big one like him.

I purposely looked for the bruts of a litter. Daisy's mom had 2 pups one tennie tiny and one mucho grand. I picked mucho grand as she is able to more than most yorkies.

JB617 04-09-2009 03:02 PM

Oscar is 11 lbs and all muscle because he runs around in our large backyard all day long like a maniac! He is mostly silver with some blonde, very little tan on his snout and the end of his tail is black! I often have people ask me if he a Silky, but everyone here thinks he is all Yorkie!

chestermama 04-09-2009 11:15 PM

Chester is 9 lbs and the vet says he looks great, I dont have any pictures to show you,he is my stud muffin

DJ and Harley D, bless their little hearts and souls, were 5 lbs and 8 lbs of sweetness. Zack and Zeke on the other hand are 11 1/2 and 13 1/2 lbs. See their pics in my album(user name). We walk a lot and no one in Satellite Beach FL has said anything about their size. All the yorkie owners in our area just love their "kids" who range from 4 lbs to 14 or more lbs.

Gizmo Baby 04-10-2009 05:10 AM

Well little Gizmo just turned 4 months on the 8 and weighed in at 8.4 lbs he gained 3 pounds in 1 month! So yeah another one to join the teapot club lol.........although with all the pouncing he does makes me wonder if he's not part lion lol.

KJLive 04-10-2009 05:37 AM

My precious Sophie is 7 months old and 8 lbs! Vet says she'll top out at 10 lbs. Funny...to look at her she doesn't look like 8 lbs. She short and stocky. She was 2lb. 1 oz. when I got her at 12 weeks. I thought I'd have a 4-5 lb Yorkie. Obviously, that's not happening and I couldn't be happier! Kudos to all the teapots out there! :animal36
