The picture of Chloe was taken at around 8-9 weeks. She weighed 1.5 lbs. and she weighs almost 3lbs. now at l5 weeks. She is a very petite baby! Yes, it is funny that a lot of our babies look alike. I think it is the coloring! Chloe is honored to have a new friend that looks like her. She sends hugs and kisses. Can't wait to see pics! Stacy, I was gonne be the cloud but since you have I will just say that I agree with you. I am absolutely aghast that a person would breed such a tiny female..never mind that the stud was also larger. I am happy that you found your puppy but my suggestion would be to be prepared for some vet bills related to her size. You might be one of the lucky people and I hope that is true... |
Im really happy that you found your baby, but I am shocked that someone would breed such a small female. Its bad for the pups, and very dangerous for the female! I know small dogs are popular right now but thats ridiculous and unecessary |
Well I agree that they should be 5 lbs or over. I worry about Sugar, she used to be 5 lbs but somehow she has gained a lb. I know the excitement and I hope your baby gives you all the pleasure and happinness that Sugar and the rest of my yorkie family has given me. Did she have a c-section? I know a breeder that has bred little ones before and against her vet's advice. She has lost puppies but so far no mommies. She has a couple she gets c-sectioned. As for me it just wouldn't be worth the risk. I could never forgive myself if something happenned to one of my babies.Congradulations on your new baby. Hope she stays healthy. |
congratulations!!! I'm happy for you!! :D |
Sorry to drag things down, as I'm sure you are so thrilled and excited about your new addition. However I stand firm on my opinion................ any breeder breeding 2 and a half pound bitches, do's not have the best interest of the dog in mind. |

Hey...everyone loves the thought of a new yorkie puppy. Who on here would n't be excited for you? I know I am. I think its tempered with concern though...and if you spend any length of time here...you will see that Yorkietalk has a multitude of educational forums to help us choose healthy pups from consciencious breeders, who have the Yorkshire Terrier welfare at heart. Perhaps there were a few "red flags" that triggered some pavlovian responses from some of the members here (after all...they have heard and lived the horror stories), but I'm sure they were directed more at the breeder that you. And in reading some of the responses...my main impression was one of concern for you ! They were not being rude...they were "watching your back"! Anywho...I hope your choice of puppy is a healthy and happy one... Francie |
Congarts! I am so happy for you it is a boy right and what are you going to call him or her?! :aimeeyork |
I wanted to say congratulations on your new pup. I have to agreed regarding breeding such a tiny yorkie, im just against it, but that is jmo. Since you have done your research and are prepare, Im very happy that you found what you were looking for. I just hope that your baby is very healthy and does not go thru any of the problems usually very tinies have. I will love to see pics of your baby now and growing up. So I really hope that you stay. Rambo is a cute name. |
:zip: :zip: :zip: :zip: :zip: :zip: I will keep my lips sealed on this one, other than sugar's mom if you do decide to breed, look into larger females around 5 lbs to bring to your 3 lbs male and you will still be able to acheive smaller yorkies. OOPS, had to imput.... But congrats on your new puppy I know you are excited !!!!! |
Sugar's Mom~ Please don't pay any attention to the rude comments from some of the members...sometimes they are a little too forceful in asserting their opinion and it is hurtful, but the majority of the people here are so nice and welcoming and will love your baby. The rude ones are few and far between and even they are not ALWAYS rude.....only on certsin issues where they allow no controverting opinions. Most of us have been programmed to believe that all tinies (under 4 lbs as adults) have more health problems than 5-7 lb yorkies , but this has not been proven that I know of. The general accepted healthy weight for a bitch to bear puppies is 5 lbs, but I have always wondered why the smaller females couldn't breed as long as the male is small too. I mean there are lots of smaller animals that do very well having babies like rabbits and mice. Why would yorkies be so different? I must admit I have never researched it so I don't know. Some also have a prejudice against Tinies because they think they are somehow harming the breed since they are smaller than what wins in the show ring. I for one would love to have you stay and allow us to enjoy your new baby vicariously as well as hear your stories as you explore the possibility of becoming a breeder. I think you are a great asset already. Please stay!!! :) |
Congrats on your new furbaby. I think you will find on YT a great group. Everyone is very passionate about there yorkie and everyone elses on here. We are happy when someone gets a new furbaby, but also are saddend when one is sick or lost. I am blessed with three healthy yorkies ranging from 9 lbs to 2 lb 9 oz and love them more than anything as I am sure you will yours. Look forward is seeing pics. |
I mean there are lots of smaller animals that do very well having babies like rabbits and mice. Why would yorkies be so different? I must admit I have never researched it so I don't know. In nature , have you seen several 5 to 10 pounds mice ? Yorkshire Terriers have been reduced to ridiculous weight to please peoples . |
Happy for you and sincerly hope the little one will not higher your vet bills . Socalyorkilvr , are you able to tell me that you don't have prejudices against nothing ? |
That's great news. Can't wait to see him. |

...Let me get my glasses.....and try and understand your logic here: 1. Are you actually comparing the breeding of two ENTIRELY different genus within the animal kingdom? Mice? 2. Where did you read in any of those "negative" threads"...that their opposition was due to "showing potential"?. All I see is the HEALTH CONCERNS of the damn and puppies... AND the potential financial and emotional repercussions of buying a pup from a breeder A. who endangers her damn by breeding an undersized female and B. allows these "teacup" puppies to leave her home at 10 weeks, when the accepted time would be closer to 12 - 16 due to the very nature of their health concerns. 3. What "proof" do you actually need in regards to the health problems of "tinies"? A "Government Sponsored Study"? Let's disregard the 30 odd years of experience these breeders have had ...All you have to do...if you REALLY want to know...is talk to the vets. Why must we always error on the side of "pleasantry" when serious questions are being raised here? And on top of that..I find it puzzling that this comes from someone who is an "adamant proponent of "Quality Puppy Care" when choosing a "Good Breeder"! The only "Rudeness" going on in this thread was the inaccurate labeling of sincere and concerned Breeders and Owners. Apologies are in order if you ask me. Francie |
I think you guys should stop making this thread about anything else!!! Sugars mom came on here to share her good news. We have talked about the health risks and she understands and has researched it for herself. So please don't turn this into controversy. Just congratulate her on her cute little new puppy. I for one am very happy for you. Sugarsmom you can send me the pics and I will post them for you. :p |

I don't feel calling anyone should be calling our breeders rude for voicing their feelings about the size of the mom - it IS a concern but in no way is meant to make you (sugars mom) feel bad. I feel breeding such small yorkies is asking for problems but I truly hope everything goes well for you. We have members who have been breeders for years here and hopefully their opinions are valued. I realize some of the posts are Not by breeders (like mine) ....but I hope you can take their honest posts for face value and know that they have the years of experience to stand by their knowledge. |
Congrats on finding a puppy. We look forward to seeing pictures of your bundle of joy soon. This thread is getting too off topic and out of hand, thus it is getting closed. |
