bad haircut help
 
well bailee got shaved down pretty good,about to an inch, and it was butchered...its so terrible...how long til it grows out?not into a full coat but a lil longer than a puppy cut?

It will probably be a couple months. The good news is that many puppies mat, and once the new or adult coat comes in, they may not mat as much. This has happened to so many people and a cute little dress or shirt can make a difference in their looks. I'm sorry this has happened to you, it probably not as bad as you think, but it's so hard getting use to what looks like a different dog. Another thing about clothing, they may even need a sweater, if it's really shaved short, hair helps insulate the body from temperature extremes of cold or hot.

It will probably take awhile. I took Sam last July to the groomers, he had beautiful long hair on his ears and I told the groomer NOT to cut them. Well, she did and they still don't look like they use to..Needless to say we haven't been back to that groomer.

My puppy is blowing his puppy coat and matting. What is the solution to this? I really don't want to shave him, and have been avoiding the groomer due to my female getting slaughtered the last visit. She ended up with long body hair, short leg hair, and a mustache that looked like Charlie Chaplin. We are still praying that this grows out. When I take the male to be groomed, can they use a shed comb to get the puppy coat away from his skin? I have been combing him daily, but need the right comb to remove this excess puppy hair. Any suggestions?

ok,thanks! she never matted but i can definately tell this hair is much more silky which i am very excited about...the groomer did wat i asked of them but just a terrible job of it...a few months wont be so bad.

There are matting combs, but you have to know how to use them, they have a blade between the teeth of the comb that cuts through the mat. I found that "Cowboy Magic Detangler" really worked great when Joey was a puppy. You need to use it before you get the hair wet. Some people recommend cornstarch that you buy at grocery store for mats. A good pin brush should remove dead hair, and following this with a comb that is placed next to the skin lessens the chance of serious matting. I still use the cowboy magic occasionally before a bath, if Joey has been wearing a lot of clothes, it just seems to make tangles so easy to get out before they turn into mats.

I feel your pain. My female got a really bad haircut, and I entitled a picture in my album, "Bad Hair Day." They clipped her nose hair too much and now she has a Charlie Chaplin mustache. I would return the dog to the groomer and ask that the cut be fixed, in that I am sure it was probably $40+. A clipper cut is easy to correct, especially if you still have one inch of hair. The biggest issue lies in the spots that are cut too close, to the skin, the knicks, etc. I know the look....it looks like an 8-year-old cut it. It will be unnoticable in a few months, and if you plan on growing the dog's hair out, then just let it grow. If you plan on keeping it close, have it redone and then just don't return to that groomer. I have a clipper in the house that I use for bad do's....believe me....there have been many...:thumbdown Just like with humans, hair does grow...this is the saving grace....just don't try to watch it grow...it's the equivalent of watching a pot boil....:eek:

Y'all are scaring me!! I have been scouring the internet today looking for Yorkie haircuts because I was going to take her Monday for her first cut. I really don't want them to mess it up!! :eek:

Don't worry. Just ask for a puppy cut. Thats what I asked for, and I'll post a pic of how they cut her hair. :)

thats perfectwhen hers grows a bit i am going to take her to a diff groomer and see if they can kind of even it out into this lol...its currently so choppy and uneven

it'll grow....lol I last had Mandie's done the first week of March and its grown out A LOT!!!!

i dont know.. when i asked for a puppy cut once they left it long, didnt even look like it was cut! i swear we should all just take a class and cut our own pups hair!!! They never get it right do they??"

the good news is it will grow back! after i got the frist bad cut i got the clippers and sissors and taught myself you do learn real fast and it is not for everyone one but when you have more than one its great .i thought if anyone is going to give a bad cut it will be myself

I agree, it would also be a LOT cheaper. Its like $50 every time I have her hair cut...

I started grooming my boys myself after going to pick up Ranger last year and watching how mean one of the bathers was to a petrified Shih Tzu... It really isn't too hard, and I agree, if it's gonna be a bad cut better it by me!!

To the OP- I want to see a picture. I am *positive* it isn't as bad as your think it is.

I know you said you liked Ranger's new haircut, here is a picture of him from last year I took to the groomer to show her how I wanted him. The problem with telling a groomer you want a "puppy cut" is that there is no standard definition for a puppy cut. So, basically, if you tell 10 groomers you want a puppy cut, you will get ten different cuts :)

I want to see pics and I guarantee Bailee still looks darling!!

bailee still has a lil bit left of the black im sure ill get a lil teary when it goes...my bf comes back from out of town tommorow so ill use his computer to post pics,its so much easier than mine

Aw, I think short puppy cuts are super cute, and of course it's neato that they're low maintenance as well. I love the pics people have posted so far in this thread... To the OP, show us a pic! Like everyone else keeps saying, I'm sure it's not so bad.

I totally agree! I have never been happy with a groomer, yet:eek:! Everytime i would bring Teddy home I would have to fix it. One i have do almost cut the entire thing!!! I feel bad for them, you can tell when it is a bad one:(. I have said "puppy" cut so many times and they have shaved the whole body and left the head huge...left the body long and face real long and PARTED but shaved in between his eyes and under his eyes:thumbdown. One I just asked to make it about an inch and a half everywhere, nice and rounded off with no sharp edges or cuts...that was the WORST:eek:. He looked like an owl, my poor baby, his body wasnt touched, his face was totally parted down center and they shaved under his eyes:mad:. I felt so bad for him. I just re-cut it myself. Now I plan on taking a picture, or if I like they way he is I will say that I want him to look just like this but a little shorter! I think some groomers just have an image in their own mind and it dosnt matter what you want somtimes:(. Also if you ever see a dog in your area that you like, ask them where they go!!

Thank you for your great advice. I ended up buying a fine metal comb and used my Groom-Aid spray....it worked wonders. I noticed that many of these shed ending combs actually cut the hair, so I didn't want to attempt that without training. I didn't notice his fluff that was starting to mat under his collar until recently, and I brush him daily. The pin brush just wasn't getting all the way down to his skin. I just groomed him today. He looks quite studly and he knows it....has a spring to his step. I want his fur to grow out, so I tipped his wombat ears, shaved the bridge of his nose, his fat tum tum, his little coolie and his %$##...He gave me a strange look like, "Hey, lady, that is too close for comfort!"... :) My little boy is growing up....:( Thanks again, friend...Lisa, Lilly & Jesse

I feel your pain! My bf took him to the groomer's once and Chase came back butchered. Once your over the shock of it, it won't seem so bad. It will all grow back in a month or so, I promise! Until then, use a lot of cute clothing to cover up the bad haircut.

I bought a Wahl clipper for men with the head attachments at least 15 years old and has lasted through four dogs....two current. Their hair is fine and if you keep the clipper oiled and clean, it will give you years of cuts. Also, the corded one is adviseable, because the cordless loses the charge too quickly. You can find very competitive pricing on Amazon. I just bought my son a new Wahl, just like my older version, and didn't pay over $50. Beauty supply stores have them, but you may pay more. Actual dog grooming clippers are very expensive, because you have to take into account the amount of animals these groomers do daily...they are industrial strength... :) I hope this helps.... All 3 of my kidz are getting their puppy cuts this Friday. I've had Keegans hair growing all winter & his coat is beautiful! BUT it's getting to be summer here in Fl & he's already panting. It's just not worth having him be uncomfortable.

You can't just go in and say, "puppy cut!" This cut differs in every breed, especially in the shape of the head. I also like a round babydoll face, and have had my female returned looking like a sheep one time and with a huge lion head the next. I even typed out instructions down to the last detail. I don't remember ever coming home and not correcting something on either animal from day one, which is why I will clip them myself. The baby is a little too wild yet, but the female lays on her back and let's me clip her. Her temperament is incredible. She just had a cleaning with no anesthesia and got an "A" for obedience on her report card. My boy....well....he is project in the works...hehehehe. I am praying he learns by example... :) Yorkie Talk has tons of wonderful photos....so, my advise is if you are taking your animal in for grooming, bring a photo! Pictures speak much louder than words...:animal-pa
