Dilemma!!!!! A 3rd Yorkie????? Here is my dilemma---Please--your opinions matter!!!!!! (long story) About this time last year, my cousins friend was going to breed her little girl yorkie. This was to be her 1st litter, and she wanted her puppies to go to someone she knew, so she could watch them grow up, and so she could see them. Well, her dog became pregnant and offered me one of her pups!!! I was sooo excited. Well, she only had one pup--a girl. I went to visit her every other day, and even named her--Sasha. Well at 10 weeks, my cousins friend became way too attached and decided that she wanted to keep her. :( I was devastated. There was no contract or anyhting... only verbal agreement. But then we searched some more and thats when we found Luigi!!!! Well she is going to 1 soon, and so she has the 2. The momm and the pup. She isn't going to breed ever again--she decided it wasn't for her and it was alot more work than she anticipated. So she had them both spayed. Well, the pup is yet to be housebroken, she has no patience with her and now she wants to get rid of her. :( I am soo PO'd!!! So she asked my cousin to ask me if I would still want her. And I would love to have her!!! To give her a loving home and all that! She named her Angel. But I am not sure if Ray would be Ok with it. (my hubby) See this weekend, we are driving to go pick up another little guy-named Rosco!!! He's a rescue dog!!! So that is going to be a big enough change in itself, but to bring in a 3rd????????? I don't know what to do???? My stomach is sooo sick!!! So I would have to housebreak her.... Which leads to another question.... How hard is it to housebreak a 1 year old yorkie. She just peepees everywhere. So what do you all think???? Should I consider a 3rd--who isn't housebroken??????? I wanted to see what you all think before I talk to my hubby about this!!!! And she would want to get rid of her hopefully by this weekend! What do I do??????  Help!!!!! |
Responding to you in chat Mandy ;) |
My first reaction is take both but that could be a ton of work. Do you know much about Rosco? If he has issues you could be in for more than you can handle. Would she wait a little longer to see how you do with Rosco? You have a big heart to want to save them both. |
I wish I had some good advise for you. That is a terribly hard desision to make. Two yorkies at once seems like a challenge in it's self, let alone two yorkies that will both need special attention, and we can't forget about the one you already have...Luigi! I think it's such a wonderful thing that you are rescuing a dog. I wish I had better advice for you. I wish you luck in whatever your destiny holds! Best Wishes, Hannah |
Housebreakin' 101 I think it all depends on how much time you have to train her to go potty outside. If you work, and are gone most of the day, it's gonna be hard. If you are able to stay home and watch her, it shouldn't take too long. I have found that teaching male Yorkies to go outside is a lot easier than females. But then too, I have found that teaching more at once is easier for me. When my pups are old enough to go outside, they all go together. I have a fenced in yard, so they can't go anywhere. I do go out with them at first, but the more they go out, the easier it seems to get. I also don't use pee pads! All my Yorkies love to tear up paper. Whatt starts out as a nice little pee pad, almost instantly becomes little bits and pieces of paper ALL OVER THE HOUSE!!!! I just use an old towel. Get them used to going on that, then start getting it closer to the door. Altho sometimes I think they want to go out to do their business. I let them go out, they play and play, then rush back in and pee on the towel!! But, all you have to do is throw it in the wash and all's fine. If I were you, I'd take all three of them. You never know what your cousins friend may do with the little girl if you don't. I live in CA or I'd offer to take her. I know a lot of people here that would jump at the chance. Good Luck! ;) Suz |

Rosco is housebroken, and is a very happy guy!!!! An elderly lady wanted a lap dog, and didn't realize they really arent lap dogs!!!! So she gave him up... she couldn't handle him. |
I would say get her. The more the merrier. Housetraining you will just have to start from scratch like she was a little puppy. |

Thanks for the advise---I am going to talk to my hubby!!!!!! |
I wish I could help you but I will say GOOD LUCK ...follow your heart - you'll make the decision that's best for you and it sounds like you may be getting another baby to love soon. |
Not a lap dog?? NOT lap dogs?!?!?! Heaven forbid my Yorkies ever find out their not lap-dogs!! |

I guess she didn't realize they go thru puppy phases--like wanting to play all the time and stuff like that!!! ;) |
Why don't you take her dog in and then look for a new home for her if you think it will be too much. You would find a better home for her then her owner right now because she is so anxious to get rid of her. I doubt she would really give time and effort for her dogs new home. Good luck in your decision! |
Well, you would certainly have your hands full....but of course you can never have "too many" yorkies, LOL. But if you get her, you should name her Dilemma....you could call her "Di" like Princess Di! heehee, j/k |
I say, go for it. It may be hard to housetrain a 1 year old. You'll really have to work with her but I'm sure that she'll get it in no time. At 1 year for Gracie and 1 1/2 years for Chester, they still were not "good" housetrained. I got one of those doggie doors when I went to Vegas and we average an accident about twice a month...from Rebel. It's a hard decision and I hope that hubby will be open minded. Good luck and let us know what happens! |
