Kicking hind legs Our little guy has picked up a new habit. He's 9 months old, fixed, and has recently been going around the house kicking his hind legs, like he's covering up his feces. Sometimes he'll look at up and give a grunt and do it, other times he's by himself in a room and I'll see him doing it. Anyone have any idea's? Do you think it's a dominant thing, or marking his territory. I know he'll stand there and bark at us if he wants our attention to play with him. We're working on that by ignoring him. Thanks |

My 10 month old spayed female will kick back her hind legs a couple of times after she pees and poops outside. |
It is a dominant thing, but oh-so-cute!! They actually have scent glands on the bottom of their feetsies and spread their scent that way- marking their territory. I love it when they do it! I just die laughing everytime (which is a lot!!). Guess we know who's boss in my house! |

Molly is 5 years old, and I've only seen her do this a couple of times inside, but she does it after she potties outside, everytime. It's so funny. She even has her cousin, Roxas, [a cocker spaniel], doing it too. lol. |

My Mayzie does this. She is pee pad trained but she goes out when Mo goes out (he is housebroken) while he is doing his business, Mayzie is kicking up her heels! It is soo cute. lol |
YES - outside, Roxy will do the "MOON WALK" after she pees  |
Thanks for this information. Katie has been doing this since I got her. I thought she was playing. It seems like she does it mostly when she wants to get attention or gets mad at one of the other dogs. |

"Moon Walk" LMAO:D:D:D |
Buddy does this outside after he pees and poops. I have learned not to be too fast in picking up after him. He has kicked dirt down my blouce and in my mouth more than once. |
I'm not so sure its a dominance thing, they usually want to play when doing this. At least AprilLove does, LOL |
I read this somewhere but don't ask me where. I read that the dog is a den animal. They cover up their urine and feces as to not be traced. This is especially true when a mother has a litter. Also one of the reasons they eat their afterbirth, yuck!!! To hide scent from predators. So all you who have dog hind kickers, consider yourself a predator, lol |
Pocket is 4 months old and he does this when we are playing and he gets real excited. It is funny, I keep telling ok come on big boy! |
Sam does that too. |
Our 2 guys do this after they poop outside. Our little girl used to do it right before she got in her brother's face cuz he was on HER daddy's lap! He jumped down really quick and he weighs 4 times what she did. |

Too cute! :D |
It's working now, and it's so cute! Love the way Aprillove plays submissive by rolling on her back, but still get her way, she's a master manipulator! |
I really laughed watching the video. |
what a cute video :p My lil one does this after she poops in the morning and evening...we have now named it her poopy dance :animal36 |
GeeGee my littlest biewer does that --when she has pooped on the pee pad--she does that little dance--and the poop has gone flying, like onto the wall. OMG it still is funny. |
Kicking My little Chloe, 1 year, kicks out her hind legs to let me know she needs to go outside to potty. Perhaps your little guy is trying to tell you it's potty time. |
MK... the video was soo cute.. that AprilLove certainly has it down doesn't she! When she started barking ALL my dogs came running in to see what was going on, even little Icee!! Too cute! Poor Nappy, the girls win again. :( -Diana :animal-pa |
I think with Levi it's a combination of things. I think he's marking his territory, and also getting a little attitude sometimes. He's one of those Yorkies that when he wants our attention, he wants it! Our daughter's Yorkie is the most submissive, lazy one I ever saw. They used to live with us but moved out, in fact we got Levi to play with Kohen when they lived here. Kohen was the boss. Kohen comes over and visits so I wonder if that's the reason for the marking? |

Buddy does that all the time when we are playing. Also, he does that when he is being a "tough guy" in the backyard. I love it, but it is an aggressive behaviour. |

^^^ Aggressive...wrong word. You are right. That is actually what I meant. |
Angel will do that after a pp and poo outside. Candy does that only after a poo on the pp pad. She kickes up the pad and 'covers' it up! Kissy only kicks one leg, her left back leg when she is wanting me to play with a toy she has brought to me. She will also kick back after a pp outside but not often. My other 2 have never kicked their back legs. They are all so different. I think it is cute unless the poo goes flying! I love that video of Aprillove & Nappy!! A girl always gets what she wants! :D |
