many articles are printed about eye shine and most of them are feuled by a rumor that was started many years ago in the show world and continues to go around. Your old time breeders and show people put no store at all in eye shine. I don't even pay attention to it. I have had the same dog have green eyeshine, orange eyeshine and one of each in the same picture. no merit to that theory altho no one really seems to know where the rumor go started and it was probably forty years ago that it got started around. Too many factors influence eye shine. That being said, I have a little black and reddish gold female i kept back from two very blue/gold parents (that is what some folks call silver).

It was my understanding that the flash from a camera showing
green eyes on a dog (yorkie) would mean that dog has a silky
coat and if they flashed red it would be a cottony coat.
Buddy's flashes emerald green and his coat is a prue silky one.

And the whiteish roots on his black body puppy fur seem to be more like a black/silverish. Who knows!!


He's a very handsome boy. He does appear to have Buddy's coloring.
Good luck with him. No matter what his back does, if it does change,
his gold will not.

I have 2 Yorkies who are all black and tan. The breeders who I got both of them from only breed with black and tan so even an adult Yorkie does not change to that silvery color. My dogs are also curly, which is very uncommon for Yorkies.

Yorkies are dark silver blue and tan, they should not bee black/tan except when they are puppies.
Yorkshire Terrier puppies are Black and tan, but then they loose theyre black color and get this beautiful dark silver blue color ;)

Just read the standard:
American Kennel Club - Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkies are just in this one color, they should not be with much white markings (like biewer yorkies, they are just Maltese/yorkie mixes i think, theyre not pure yorkies).

That's very interesting about the white head turning gold...my Tank has a white head, but it's just now starting to change to gold. Joey has a few white hairs on his body, but they're coarse, and I've read that they will go away. Is that generally true? I think I'm gonna end up with one black and tan, and one blue and gold...that's how it's looking at this point. Either way, I agree with everyone - you love them no matter what color they are!

My 17 1/2 yr old is very black and gold. She is beautiful to me. The only grey she has around her little mouth. I had a hard time finding another black and gold - but got one 2 months ago. She is 15 months and very black and gold. I pray she stays that color but I just found out her mother was silver so we'll just have to see. :)

yes that is what i read also grren is silky and red is cottony no color of coats were mentioned.

Yorkshire Terrier Club of America states: "The most distinctive characteristic of an adult Yorkshire Terrier is its long blue and tan silk coat. A puppy is born black and tan, but the only recognized colors for adults when registering with AKC are blue and gold, blue and tan, black and gold,or black and tan."
Both of my Yorkies are black and tan and they are true Yorkies. They also have curly/wavy hair. I know long, straight hair is only recognized in the AKC but that doesn't mean they are not true Yorkies. :p
