Mashed Potatoes Anyone? You know...I read a lot of posts in here about their Yorkies sleeping in bed with them...just a question...Don't they get squashed? Just wondering. Francie |
No, they will not be squashed. They are smart enough to move out of the way. Unless you are a very violent trasher in bed...in which case, you shouldn't have anything in bed w/ you. Just thought I would add, I'm not talking about little puppies, but rather a Yorkie at least 6+ months old. |
Mine have slept with me since I got them - as a mother I guess we have built in NON-SQUASH antennas....I loved it - but I wouldn't advise everyone to sleep with their puppies if they are heavy sleepers ....then I would be afraid they could get hurt or smothered. I'm an extremely light sleeper and when Cheri was little she stayed in the same spot under my chin and would wake me up when she needed to pee. |
All my girls sleep with me and when the pups are old enough they join the gang and never have been squeezed . |
Yorkie's I feel can sleep safe in your bed after a year old and if the owner isn't a kicker, roller, etc. Schatzie sleeps with us on occasion but is such a huge pillow/bed hog. I've even went to the couch in the middle of the night as to not to disturb her! Gosh, she is way too spoiled, LOL. :p |

Coco started sleeping with me at about 4 or 5 months. It is really amazing how aware you are of your surroundings when there's something itty bitty sleeping next to you. I consider myself a medium sleeper (between deep and light) but Coco stretches a paw and I'm awake. |
All of our s sleep with us the pups do not sleep with us until they can stay dry or have no accidents at night, they all sleep on my side of the bed as my hubby doesnt like them in their but when he falls asleep they will manuever over to his side, they are like sand bags if you move they fill right back in.If they do not sleep with us something is up with them, illness etc.. |
I am a light sleeper & I know where everybody is at all times. When somebody moves, everybody moves - it's pretty funny actually! |
Patton goes inside his crate and wakes me up in the middle of the night which had used to mean he wanted to go pottie, so we both go potty. But lately he wakes me up and I take him to the restroom, but only I use the restroom. And then I take him to my bed, and he now is waking me up each night so I take him to bed. He does fine, no accidents and he is now able to hold it since he doesn't pee when I go to the restroom in the middle of the night. I am a heavy sleeper, but have noticed I wake up a few times just to make sure all is well, and then go back to sleep. They are amazing! |
Bentley sleeps in bed with me...but i think he moves more than i do!! |
I might get some negitive responses to this, but I have 7 yorkies. And I used to sleep in our spare room, so the dogs could sleep with me. My husband doesn't want to share the bed with the dogs. He wasn't a fan of seprate beds either. So he will allow one dog in the bed at a time. So everyone get a turn to sleep with us. When it isn't their turn I do kennel them at nite. Since they are den animals, they do go to their own kennels and put themselves up for the night. :p They all have their favorite blankee's in their kennels. All I have to do is shut the doors at night except for who ever's turn it is for bed privledges that night. I personally don't like to kennel, but they like it and I do feel in case of fire or other emergency that may happen in the middle of the night I would be able to locate all my babies and bring them to safety if need be. If I have a female about to whelp I do still retire to the spare room, so in the middle of the night they will be able to wake me in the event of puppies coming, this has worked great for me in the past. |
Zeus has been sleeping with us since we got him and he will let you know if you get close, believe me. He prefers to sleep under the covers and if you even nudge him, he growls. It is so cute, becasue he acts like he is so mad, but then he comes out, hair a mess, and just kisses us like crazy! I love that little boy!! :p |
I didn't get my yorkie until she was 5 months old, but she has slept with me since then. I also have 2 chihuahuas that I have had since they were 12 weeks old and they have slept with me since the first night. At first I was so worried about squishing them since they only weighed a pound, but its amazing how quickly you wake up as soon as they move. I swear I would wake up every hour and open my eyes to make sure they were still there. I don't worry about rolling over any of them now, they have all learned to move out of the way when they need to :) |
I have the pleasure of sleeping with three. They all have there place on the bed, they all have to be touching me. Polly has been sleeping with me for about two week, she was so little I was scared she would get hurt. Now she knows when I roll over to move. |
Ours started sleeping with us when they were 4 and 5 months old. They move when we move. They really spread themselves out. |
I've had tiny puppies sleep in my bed since I was a little girl and haven't squished any yet. :p |
I can't sleep with my Gus. I am fearfull that I will mash him too. I'm sure it is safe and he would get out of the way, but I just don't get a good nights sleep. I do keep him in a small crate right next to me at night. As long as he's right next to me we both happy and sleep tight! |
Cookie has been sleeping with us for a long time now. He always curls up right against me. As long as he feels my body touching his back he's knocked out the entire night until I wake up. We now have a king size bed and there's lots of room for him. He still prefers to lay right against me. I try to sneak to the other side of the bed sometimes and he gets up immediately ,walks over to me and plops down right next to me and continues sleeping. I'm a light sleeper unless I'm exhausted and go to bed at 3 am! lol I worried for the first month that we would smother him in the middle of the night because at the time he was only like 2 lbs. I have let Maddie sleep with me since she was 4 months old. At first I would put her to bed in her crate so she is used to it when I am not there and also she needed to go out during the night. After I brought her out, she'd be in my bed. Now she sleeps right through the night (and sleeps in longer) with me. I don't worry about rolling on her - she's a bed hog :D |

I agree. Mollie has always woke me up since we got her @ 9 1/2 wks and she has slept with us ever since. She would lick me in the face. Now she just woofs at me when it's time to go out. She has never been squashed. They move if they need too. |
No girl! They kinda start out at the foot of the bed. Coty would wind up next to me on the pillow. But most times they jump off the bed (via their stool) and sleep on the beds next to my bed. The best is when they are on the bed and my two boys are there with us in the morning. We had to get a king-sized bed a couple of years ago. |
Sleep Time When we first got Kodi he slept in his crate because my husband didn't want him in bed with us. Then we took him on vacation and he had to sleep with us because we didn't have his crate and his travel carrier was too small to keep him in over nite. When we returned from vacation we started putting him in his crate again at nite. He would wake us up around 6 am to go out. After I took him out we would let him into bed to play until we had to get up for work. Guess what...he started needing to pee earlier and earlier because he knew that after he went out he could get in our bed. I finally convinced my husband that he would sleep all nite if he slept with us. So of course he now sleeps with us every nite and doesn't wake us until the alarm goes off in the morning. He mostly sleeps at the end of the bed, but sometimes ends up next to me or on our pillows. It's too funny when we wake up in the morning with a "Kodi hat" because he is sleeping on top of our head on the pillow. |
That's funny! I can still remember the first night I had Muffin. I woke up the next morning and she was wrapped around the top of my head. :D |
Like so many of you - I was so afraid that I would squish Rowdy in the bed - he was only 1.3 lbs when we got him. He slept in a crate right by our bed. He would woof when he needed to go outside, but pretty soon, he started sleeping through the night. Unlike some of you, my hubby really wanted him to sleep with us but I was so afraid. I would put him in our bed and go to sleep, only to wake up or check on him a jillion times in a couple of hours. He moved around a lot so everytime I'd wake up and he'd be in a different spot, I would panic. I'd end up moving him to his crate after a couple of hours so that I could sleep. Finally, I made it through the night and now, he sleeps with us all night long. He still moved around in the bed a lot but I found the solution to that. We thought maybe he was cold so we put a small flannel blanket between our pillows (where he would sometimes sleep) but he didn't seem to want to sleep on it. Then I got the bright idea of taking the Sponge Bob Square Pants fleece blanket (yes, Sponge Bob!) out of his kennel and I put it between our pillows. That was the ticket - he knows that is his blanket and he sleeps on it every night now - except for the occasional Rowdy hat! :D |
Sleeping in the bed. I didn't know that your pets weren't supposed to sleep in the bed with you! ;) ;) Since before I can remember I have had one kind of pet or another, a cat, my little Smooshie bunny, bird, and of course as many dogs as can fit!!!!! ;) :D Matise weighed a little ofer 2 lbs. when we got him, 3 lbs. now but he has slept in the bed since day one. I am a light sleeper and so is my husband so I guess it is safer than us being heavy sleepers. ;) But you know, Matise is a heavy sleeper and usually doesn't wake up when we move lucky for him! ;) |
Well, I'm sure they get out of the way when they see mom's big ass rolling towards them! No, I've never squashed one. :p |
