I think that if Curly grows up to be a teapot and someone asks what kind of dog she is, I'll answer that she is a rottweiller (sp?) and then they'll be all, awww, she's so tinyyyyy!!!:p Personally, I wouldn't be offended if someone thought my pup was big, I'm kind of hoping she does get to be a teapot because I wouldn't worry near as much about her. These little guys can make you lose some sleep! |

Yea, I would have been pissed at that comment. I understand that everyone has their own opinion on what is cute or ugly, I mean, there are certains breeds of dog that I think are not-so-cute but I would never ever say that to their owner. Geez |
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Yorkie People are freakin' rude. I was out the other day and one of my neighbors looked at my puppy and when I told her he was a Yorkie, she told me I got ripped off - cause he was too big. (he weighs 8 pounds at 6 months) I'm thinking "Who peed in your Cheerio's BISH - don't you be messing with my furbaby". I got a big lump in my throat and called my vet - saying "I think my Yorkie is Bogus - he's an imposter!" He laughed and told me they come in all sizes. Later that evening, we took another walk hoping to leave Cruella DeVilla a nice tootsie roll on her lawn. |
I think all dogs big or small need to be loved and who cares about the "standard"! |

I sympathize with you. My Chase has floppy ears and is 8lbs. Everyone asks if he is mixed or what kind of dog he is. I always answer with a smile, but it is so annoying. One person even kept trying to argue with me that he is a mix! I think I know what kind of breed my own dog is! Ugh. To me, Chase is totally a Yorkie and I love all 8lbs of him. |
Daisy HI: I totally agree with you. Sometimes people have no class when they say things, but as the others have said.. Just ignore their comments and love your baby.. She is so cute... |
Thanks everyone!! How nice to come home today and see all these lovely understanding posts. I wanted to say that these people didn't make me feel bad or that my dog was lacking in any way. I just thought it was rude and strange that it happened 4 times at that one visit. Everyone was really nice there today except one little girl that screamed in terror when Daisy came near her  I knew when I got her she wasn't a show or breeding quality. Frankly I didn't want to pay for that! I also did not want a really little dog. I chose her for health and temperament. I am not disappointed at all. This little dog that is so fierce when playing with her toys, that puts her little paws on your hands when you reach to pick her up, that waits for permission before getting out of the car, going outside or eating, that gives kisses and hugs (presses her head into your neck) every morning has my heart. And I have only had her a few months!! I wanted to share one other thing that is a little unrelated but about come backs to rude comments. My son is 6'8". People for some reason think they must comment on his height. When he was 17 or so he worked concession at a movie theater where he got a comment at nearly every sale. My favorite comment of his for "Do you play basketball?? is "No, do you play miniature golf?? :lol tears And I love him too even though he is bigger than the standard :D Kiss your babies from me and Daisykins, Beth |
Listen Honey you have nothing to worry about i think i have one of the few Biggest Male Yorkies ever and I have basically been Judged Alot that he is so Big yet the vet said his weight is just fine he is not over weight which is good news to me. People are very cruel and don't know how to speak they have hurt my feelings many of times that i have got into arguments to defend my Baby they have told me my Bingo is not a Yorkie but both of his parents are Yorkies he is just one of the lucky ones to be Bigger and Honestly I Love it its more to love just I cant put him in a purse he weights me down I recently got Minnie 2 weeks ago and she is 10 weeks old and is pretty small and I was told she should stay small but not even the vet can determine the height length and weight of ur puppy don't listen to fools people are so easy to give negative advice than to give positive and ur baby is Beautiful and yes she looks like a Yorkie to me :D |
OMG!!!! She is adorable!!! Did that guy have glasses? If not, he really needs them. |
I actually had some lady with a tiny yorkie in a bag over her shoulder come up to me and Penny (my 11lbs of awesome dog) while I was walking her and comment on how big she was, then completely unsolicited tell me that her dog only weighed two pounds and she paid $2000 for it. With a completely straight face, I replied that must make mine worth $10,000, seeing as she's five times as much Yorkie. I don't think the lady even knew what to say to that. |
Your Daisy is a Beautiful little Angel. My Daisy is 14 lbs and people always ask me what kind of dog she is, if she is a yorkie mix, if she is a Silkie, etc etc. Daisy's ears are floppy and very thick and they look more like a cocker spaniel's ears than a yorkie. She has a thick, wavy, cottony coat. People always comment about how big she is and it doesn't bother me at all because she is mine and she is just the way I love her. I tell them that she turned out to be twice the size she was supposed to be and I am happy about it, I love her size. I have never had anyone say anything rude about her size, they tell me they didn't know yorkies got that big. They always tell me that she is adorable even if they own a tiny yorkie. Daisy melts everyone with her little eyes and sweet personality. I have seen a lot of adorable 'little' yorkies but if I had my choice of all of them I would pick my big girl any day. LOL |
Hang in there. :)I believe anyone with a bigger yorkie (mine are 13 and 15 lbs) gets to hear these comments a lot. It used to offend me, now I just say "they are yorkies, and I know that they are big." Usually that stops the comments. Although, I've been told I don't know what I'm talking about they must be silkies, that I abuse them by cutting their hair, that they should have longer legs, stand up ears....I'm always amazed anyone thinks it's any of their business. One of my babies is a rescue. So, actually he could have something else mixed in (how would I know), but please, don't let him hear you say he's not a yorkie:D |
Just more yorkie to love and be loved by. My guys are 11 and 13 lbs, both rescues, no papers, just fun to be with, and to be loved back unconditionally and no strings attached. That's all we want. No one in our area has made any small/large comments. They treat the guys just like any other neighborhood pet. |

Your pup is a cutie. Don't let others comments get to you, I know it is a hard thing to do at first... When Suri was a few months old, she weighed about a pound and some change... I went to the Petsmart Halloween contest and this lady came up to me, being very snobby and asked how much she weighed and how old she was. So I told her and she was like wow your dog is going to be big! My jaw dropped...big? She then showed me a dog that she clamied was a teacup and how he would stay this size. He was small and I asked how old he was and he was only 3 months old and about 3 pounds. She then tried to sell the pup to people there and she kept saying he will be smaller then that big one over there.:eek: (They kicked her out because turned out she was the owner of a local pet store trying to sell dogs out of her car!!) Another one was recently...a guy came up and told me how cute Suri was. He asked if she was a teacup and I explained to him why that word was used. But he swore he saw pictures of a puppy in a tea cup, so Suri must be a big one. (Suri is 9 months old and 2 pounds.) Big or small it seems like the general public is not very knowledgeable about the yorkie breed. Sometimes the comments make your blood boil and some are kind of funny (like the one where they ask me where I put the batteries )...I picked Suri because she was a doll and I fell in love with her...she was the bigger of the litter and like my breeder said, I guess you were ment to have a little one. All in all...ignorant people are just ignorant people and should really think before they talk but they don't...so as long as you love your baby and they love you, that is all that matters.:D |
