Does anyone else worry about dog parks? I always wonder if those other dogs are current on their shots, or if they have something contagious, or fleas even. |
I never take mine to a dog park. The only vaccination requirement here is proof of rabies and several parks...several times have been closed for parvo outbreaks. Not worth taking that chance, we play at home or arrange playdates. |
I would never take Buddy to a dog park. I think it's great that they can run free but that's the only plus about them for me. It's not worth the risk of picking up a parasite, disease or being hurt by another dog. My neighbor's s**tzu lost her eye at a dog park. Another dog attacked her! |
Oh my!!!!! I'm glad I'm not alone. Prince has never been to a "dog park," but he has been to parks where there are other dogs. He is always on a leash with his harness, and I keep him away from other dogs, we only walk on the pavement, never in the grass, but still... |
bailee went to a dog park several times...she caught Giardia and got worms...never again will she set foot in one!!!!! |
i am a paranoid mom and would worry about mine picking up something from another dog...mine are all UTD on their shots but still...fleas, worms, etc...ick! :( |
I feel the same way. No dog parks. I'm afraid of what could be there! Ewwwww! |
I dont take mine to dog parks. We have a regular park about a 3 min drive away so we go there |
I never bring Pao to a dog park either. Too many incidents happen at a dog park, dog attacks, diseases. I would rather arrange playdates. |
I am the minority, I have taken SophieKate to our city dog park many times. So far no problems, they have an area for large, medium and small dogs with all three being protected with a very good fence. I haven't had a problem so far. SophieKate enjoys the time off leash and it gives me a chance to work with her on training (stay, come, knowing her name). I am sure I will get some comments about taking her but it is the only times she is allowed off her leash outdoors. Also it sure wears her out and sometimes she has excess energy she needs to work off. |

We have a dog park a block up from our house, I haven't taken Remington there yet because of all the things mentioned here, I'm leary..I feel he gets enough exercise on our walks and play time in our backyard. |
I have mixed feelings. I have huge fears of them 'getting' something. But going is helping Gracie Ruth with her 'other dogs & people' anxieties. So I'm afraid, but it's a benefit for G, but I'm worried she'll catch something, but, but, but... However, even if I decide to not take them, I could never convince DH (the D stands for Darn in this instance:rolleyes:) I'm afraid it will take something actually happening to one of them to get him to stop. :( |
I would say that Thor\'s greatest pleasure in life is running around parks. I don\'t think I could take that away from him. I don\'t take him to dog parks specifically, but we go to normal parks almost every day and he meets a fair number of other dogs. |
i will never take charlie to a doggy park. We have been to the regular park two times. We only walk on the sidewalk and he is not allowed in the grass b/c i know he will sniff out other dog\'s poop. |
