We don't have one here...I don't think I would go if we did!:p I guess I'm an over protective mommy, like everyone else;) |
I won't bring my girls to them, either. For me, the risks far out weigh the any benefits there may happen to be. |
Mine have never been to a dog park for a few reasons. Diseases and possible attacks by large dogs that belong on the large dog side, but are often in the small dog side. My friend almost had her Maltese attacked by a lab. We have a play-date group and we know all our dogs are healthy, so socializing isn't a problem. |
I never bring mine to dog parks for the same reasons you stated. |
Thank you for starting this thread. I had no idea that this went on at dog parks! Not sure if we have any in my area, but I will definitely not be going to them. I would rather visit the regular park or have Chloe play with my sisters dog rather than a random dog. Who knows if their shots are up to date and what kind of problems they have! |
The only dog park I have taken my girls is at the San Jose because is divided by big dogs and toy dogs. We also go the Allene Park at the SFY is not a dog park but we meet there;), my girls have their preventive flea and also I bathe them with minksheen also they are, up to date with their shots never had a problem but I will not let them drink or share water I bring their water:rolleyes: |
scared of the sidewalk (me, not apple) lol... I'm not going to deny I'm a little neurotic (o.k. alot lol), but I'm paranoid about taking Apple down the sidwalk, in the neighborhood! Who knows what kind of dogs may use those yards, walk on those sidwalks, etc...I've got a back yard, but I worry about hawks lol...I know she needs exercise, so I play ball w/her alot, and do let her run around in the back-yard for a little while a few times a day, but, I would like to walk her for a good 20 or 30 minutes...Is anyone else this nuts, or does anyone else have another way to exercise their babies? |
I take Chase to the dog part all the time. So far so good. He's as happy as a clam there. It's a regular park, but dogs are allowed off leash. All of the patrons are super friendly and nice. I watch him closely when he's with the bigger dogs. I think it's important to have them socialize, but I can definitely understand the health concerns for catching diseases and such. |
I was thinking about this last night. I didn't know if we even had any dog parks here so I looked it up. Apparently the dog park in OKC was ranked in the top 10 dog parks in the country. I'm not so sure if I would feel comfortable taking my dogs. For my older dogs, I wouldn't be so concerned about fleas, diseases but I would be so paranoid every time they were around another dog. I would flip out if I saw another dog attack mine. |

I wont take mine either to dogparks in fear what they might pick up ! |
We have a place near us that does daycare/ training/ lodging etc. On the weekends they have dog park hours and all the dogs have to be up on their shots. We have not gone there yet as we are weary of taking her because they do not separate the big and small dogs but it would be something to look for if you still wanted to go to a dog park but were worried about that kind of thing. |
Sounds like a stroller would be a good idea, although I've never used one for Prince. |
Dog Parks 1 Attachment(s) The one and only time I went to a dog parks I was holding my baby dog on a leash and a young man walked by with his dog who was also on a leash. The dog lunged up and grabbed my new baby out of my arms. The pup scream and my children and I screamed and the man made the dog drop my dog. I am so lucky ,the pup 's head was held in the jaws of the dog but he only go a little cut. Now I am afraid to walk the dog near any mediumn to large dogs |
