Another Newby Hi! I LOVE Yorkie Talk!!!! I am another new member. Actually, I have been lurking and reading for a while and decided it was about time I introduced myself. My name is Artie, I live in the High Desert in Southern Calif. My daughter also posts here, her screen name is "Suz" I don't own a Yorkie. I have an 11 year old Austrailian Cattle Dog. But I live with my daughter and son-in-law, and they have several. Suz raises Yorkies. I guess you would call her a "backyard breeder", except for the fact the only time the Yorkies go into the back yard is to do their business and to play. (Which is a lot! They do love to play!!) When Ginger and Cujo have their babies, it is in Sue and Steve's bedroom, in their whelping boxes that usually consist of big dog beds and lots of cozy blankets. So, that really isn't backyard breeding----it is bedroom breeding!! LOL I guess she isn't the usual run-of-the-mill breeder, either, in that the dogs sleep with us. Sometimes they start out on my bed and then move to theirs, or vice versa. When Sue and Steve go away, and I am here with the dogs, they are all on my bed. ("All" is different numbers, depending on how many puppies are left from a litter, or how many previously sold puppies are here for a "sleep-over" -which happens a lot. We have several who get us to "baby sit" when they go away.) Anyway, as I said, I love YorkieTalk. There are a lot of great people here who are so helpful to each other, and I have learned a lot in reading the posts. I also saw that someone recommended Joan Gordon's book "The Complete Yorkshire Terrier" which I got and really enjoyed. I plan to learn a lot more in the coming days! |
Welcome to YT its nice to have you with us! :D |
welcome to YorkieTalk!!! Glad to have you here! Sounds like you have your hands full with your baby and your daughter's babies...btw...BYB isn't what I would want to be called. She sounds like she is a good breeder. BYBs will stick two dogs together without knowing what they are breeding...genetically speaking. |
Hi and welcome to Yorkietalk :wavey: Hope you'll have fun here . |
Thanks! For the welcome. And I did say I thought she was more of a "bedroom breeder" since they are born in her bedroom! LOL |
welcome to yt. |

Hi Artie~ You are close to me....do you know any of the other yorkie breeders out here like Cindy with Scruffy Kennels or Pam with Nobelstar or Carol with Dessert Darlings? I just got a baby from Carol. Welcome and I love your sense of humor already! :D |
Welcome Artie! Guess you really must love those Yorkies your daughter raises! And she sounds like a great, caring breeder! :) |

Hello and welcome to yorkietalk! |
Hi and Welcome! Very nice to have you here! :) |
Welcome, Artie!! Glad you decided to join us. I know you must have a great time with so many pets in the household ... I would exert my "rights" of Nonnie [grandmother] which is to spoil and then give them back to Mom! :) What does your Aussie think of all the little Yorkies?? My son has a Border Collie and Missy is as spoiled as any Yorkie on this forum ... she fairly hates our little Toto and although we have been hoping for almost two years, she will not have a thing to do with her! I guess she sees her as a threat to her "turf". When she isn't around, my son, Chris, plays with Toto and just loves it! Hope you like it here and we are looking forward to pics and stories about all your crew! I too think there is absolutely no comparison to a BYB and a "BRB"! ;) |
Welcome to YT! The forums are very informative. :) |
Kim -- No we haven't met any other breeders in the area. Sue has talked to a lady who lives near us, but not in person. Bettyanne - When I got my Australian Cattle Dog, he was 2 mo. shy of being 3 years old. The people also had a Rottweiller. He HATES Rotts!! He also was very bad (and still is, sometimes) around men. He bit my son-in-law a couple times before they finally got acquainted. (not hard, just nips, and Sue says it was because Steve got between me and the dog) - He also would take a sandwich out of your hand if you were close enough to him. He would heel, sit, and sometimes lay down. But "stay" was not in his vocabulary. I told him he had a little obedience training, but no one ever taught him manners. He tried to chase every dog in the neighborhood away. He would bark at them when he was in the car and they were in their own yards!! When Sue got her first Yorkie, Ginger was about 8 or 9 weeks old. They came to visit me, and we left Ginger in her crate for a while and let Rowdy see her and smell her in the crate. Then, after a while we let her out and let them get acquainted. We were very watchfull because of his history with other dogs. Well-----Ginger stole his heart immediately! For a long time, we didn't leave them together alone, but now he is the official baby sitter of all her puppies. She not only made him fall in love with her, but after she got old enough and had her puppies, she let him know she was the Alpha dog in this situation (she still is, no matter who or how many dogs and puppies are around.) Before the puppies are big enough to jump on the couch, they use him as a spring board, or a step to get up. He doesn't care a bit. I think he loves it. He still does not know "stay" and I never leave food where he can reach it, but at least he doesn't take it out of your hand any more, and he is so good with the babies, we forgive any other faults. when I first got him he would not play, I tried buying him toys, tried throwing the ball, he just looked at me like I was crazy. Now he lays on the floor as low as he can get and plays with them all. Even our male stud dog can get him to play! I'm sorry this is so long, but that is my story of my good old Heeler, (Cattle Dog). |
:p Welcome to YT. Love your sense of humor, you will be a great addition. :D |
Welcome, welcome, welcome,,, stay,,, read,,, post!!~~~ :D |
Oh, and by the way...thank you all for your warm welcome! And just to clear one thing up, I didn't mention that I am female---I know the name confuses people at first, they think it is short for Arthur, but it was my mother's name and now mine, too. So, I am also Grandma to all these yorkies, and even great grandma to some!!! |
Welcome to YT Artie I have the book and love it. I have read it more then once to. |
Welcome Artie to Yorkie Talk. Hope you enjoy it here. :D |
