Didn't think it would happen to me. On YT I always read about strangers who encounter yorkies and have weird experiences. Trying to grab at them, take them away to hold and look at them ETC. I never thought it would happen to me. Well it did and it was scary! My boyfriend works at a drugstore and as long as you don't let your dog walk around you can bring them in. Well, we were standing in line when a woman practically ran up to see Mahina. I don't mind people touching her and she doesn't seem to care if she get's pet. This woman was absurd! She was trying to grab my dog away from me. I moved away from her and turned my body. That wasn't stopping her she kept petting her and getting really close. Mahina isn't a cuddly one :(, so she doesn't like people to get to up close and she was trying to squirm from her. And then this woman does something totally unexpected! She went and kissed Mahina's head! GAH That made Mahina mad and she was squirming. I was trying to move away but this woman was persistant. I was kind of trapped like in an aisle sort of. I told her "She doesn't like to be cuddled much and she can be scared of strangers". She kept rubbing her head (messing up her top knot). You would of though the woman could take a hint, me walking backwards, turning my body, telling her she's scared of strangers. Sigh, I didn't want to be rude, but I may have to be next time if I encounter someone like that. I think she might have been buzzed as she smelt of alcohol and my BF said she's always coming in and buying wine and other alcohol at least once a week. My poor baby, this is why I only take her to the doggy parks or Petco, where owners know their limits and actually ASK before touching. Even the children ask before touching. Well, that was my little vent for the day. |
OMG...That is awlful :animal-pa She's trying to tell her to leave me alone People just don't understand that dogs is trying to tell them and thats why they get bitten Then they want to sue It's not fair:animal-pa |
Some people don't understand personal space, that really sucks she could not take a hint. I have never had to happen to be but I sure if I did I won't be so nice or I might just start to pick my nose that is what I do in the car when someone stares at me I just start to pick my nose it works everytime! |
That's sooo scarey! I'm usually an easy going person. I let people pet my baby, but if they were overbearing, I'd turn on that b**ch mode very fast. ;). I'm claustrophobic...I would've been pushing people over to get away:D |
Funny you posted this cause I just came back from the pet store and while waiting in line this lady saw my Mia and came running! Full out "Oh MY SHE SOOOOOOOOO SWEET" and physically scooped her out of my arms!!! I was trying to stop her but I had a bag of dog food in one hand and a very happy squiggley puppy in the other happy that someone wanted to play. I couldn't believe someone would actually TAKE her out of my arms. She was so loud with the "your so cute your so sweet omg I want to just eat you" s that she didn't even notice me trying to get my dog back. Then another woman approached to say how adorable and she turned her back on me to show this other woman. The other woman starts to pet her and I lost it. I shouted "EXCUSE ME!" and they both stopped and looked at me finally. Then I just polietly said "I don't mind you giving my baby a little scratch, but may I PLEASE have her back!" The other woman was very apologetic and said she thought she was the other womans and the other woman just handed her to me and walked away.... no sorry or anything. WOW, if that's what I have to look forward too then I'M FRIGHTENED!!!!! No one ever tried to take my Great Dane away before, lol! |

It's true though...people are insane. You wouldnt try to grab a kid out of someone's arms to hold..why would you grab a dog? Unfortunately sometimes you do have to be rude to get your point across. |
I don't anymore think it's rude of me to tell someone to piss off if they grab at my puppy than I do when they grab at my kids. It's unbelievable to me how people behave. THEY are rude, not me. Don't touch my kids, don't touch my dog, and don't touch ME! How difficult is this to understand? Seems everywhere we go, I'm pulling someone off of my son or Curly. Yeah, they're cute, I KNOW, now back off. I kid you not, if a hand comes toward either my child or my dog, I grab the wrist attached to that hand and physically move it back to the body it belongs to without saying a word. Too many freaks in this world for me to take the chance! |
That is SCAREY! I'm really dreading the day that this happens to me. I normally have Missy tucked snuggly in my jacket or sweater, but come summertime I know some freaky weirdo's will be grabbin' at my dog! I like Shannonroselive's advice. I think I'll just grab the wrist and guide it back to the body it came from. That should get the point across. |
That is beyond scary! I have a major case of paranoia anyway, so any one within a foot of me gets the look, and I don't mind telling people to sod-off. I would not let people I did not know hold my son, so when people have come up to ask to hold our new puppy, I tell them simply, "I don't let anyone hold him except family". |
Protect your baby !!!!! Quote:
Yah - what she said !!! For those of you that don't want to be rude - just stop and think how much worse you are going to feel that you didn't protect your baby ( canine or human ) when some kook takes off with it and it can and does happen - much to often - so come on mama's - start defending these that can't defend themselves - we are their protectors !!!!!! ok i've vented :D |
it's only natural to be protective of your baby! |

Alright you guys I'm going to take everyone's advice. I still can't believe that people reach out and grab peoples dogs... seriously come on people! I do have to see it as they're being rude and if they don't take a few hints then I'll have be rude right back. I wish people knew their limits. I don't mind a pet or two but don't smother my dog! Whenever someone asks to hold her I don't let them. She's a lil squirmer and only lets a few people hold her. I hope I never have to encounter something like this again. And I hope people soon realize they need to ask before touching. |
I'm sorry this happened to you! I always ask before I touch anybody's dog. Hopefully you won't have to encounter this again! :( but if you do . . . don't forget the answer from Tobie22. lol |
Just tell them that she has a skin condition or tell them she bites. People wouldn't dare come near me when I have my babies out. I don't take them out that much anymore. They don't need someones grubby hands or worse yet lips on them. They sleep with me!! Back off. |
I brought Pao to a hardware store where dogs are allowed on leash and put him in the cart on the baby seat with a pillow that I brought and some lady came to kiss him as well. I really do not like strangers kissing my dog, I just don't feel it is very hygienic ya know. And they never asked if the dog is friendly or not sigh....Pao is not really cuddly nor comfortable with strangers either. I need a stroller!!! |
that is so odd that a stranger would kiss someone else's dog?? Talk about weird!!! This has not happened to me yet- although to tell you the truth i dont even like strangers coming up to PET Bella!! She doesnt like it either.. i dont know if its a yorkie trait, but she isnt always happy to see strangers... She likes to nip at little kids sometimes also, thats why i always dread when little kids run up ..i think it scares her.. Oh well some people are just dumb! LOL |

My BF's dog is really scared of little kids. One time a little girl ran into the dog park and came up to pet her and thankfully we caught her in time. She was growling and was about to snap, we picked her up and told the little girl she doesn't like kids. We never go in if we see small children, but this lil girl came out of no where. It can be a little scary sometimes, because even though other people may be petting without permission, it's still your dog and it will be your fault. Most of the time at dog parks kids will ask before touching, which I'm grateful for. |
Wow too many freaks out there now a days to trust anyone. I would of told her like I tell my kids "Keep your hands to yourself" I am just glad she didnt try anything crazy! And Tobie22 OMG how funny..You just made me laugh so hard I am crying...lol :D lol |
I am so sorry this happen to you and it can be very scary. I remember last summer visiting my cousin and we walked to the park which was close by. This woman slams on her brakes and jumps out of her car drunk.I was so scared I couldn't move. She says where can I get one of them things:eek:. I attempted to tell her she would have to search for a good breeder and I told her the prices of some, and she wanted to buy mine:mad:.I just gave her a wrong number and told her to call me, just so she would leave. She never got a chance to pet our dogs because he kept running from her when she came near.(they were leashed). |
