Default I don't Understand What He's Doing!! Please HELP!!!!!

My 7 months Charlie has been the most picky eater and I have finally found a new brand of food, Wellness for Puppies, that he absolutely love. He'd eat all his food without even having to mix his dry with wet and in one sitting. I was finally relieved as of this weekend.

Then all of a sudden, starting yesterday, he refused to go near his food just like he did with his old food. I don't understand. For days I tried his new food and he loved it. And what's weird is that he is completely housebroken. He ALWAYS uses the wee wee pad whether in our home or any other places. Then starting last night, he pooped ALL OVER the house in the most random places. In my bedroom, in the foyer, in the kitchen ... and tonight he started peeing everywhere!!!!!! WHAT IS GOING ON???

Is he sick? Besides the changing of his food, which was done last week there has been nothing different in his diet. The only changes that occurred is that my husband did leave for a business trip yesterday morning so he was not home last night and tonight. But Charlie was never really closed to my husband. He'd never followed him around, where as he would with me.

I don't understand what is going on. Please give me some advice on what I should do. Should I bring him to the vet????

Bailey used to be a VERY picky eater too. The food could be upsetting his little tummy and this could be a way he's letting you know. I used to try to entice bailey to eat by putting crackers on his food, but I didn't want him to think he was going to get treats everytime he ate breakfast or dinner. Then I tried to hand feed him and again I didn't want him getting spoiled and think he was going to be hand fed at every meal. When Bailey has an upset tummy he doesn't think about where his piddle pad is, he just kinda lets it go. I finally gave in and took him to the vet and it turns out that he has IBS. They put him on Prescription ID food that he'll be on for the rest of his life (because he got so sick once I almost lost him). Now he loves his food and eats it right up! It's basically just rice and meat. Maybe a vet call is in order, just to be safe... You would hate this to be a serious problem. Although this could be nothing too... I took Bailey because he started vomiting too. Good luck!

i have a almost 7 month old charlie too..he is acting the same way right now. He won't go near his food. If i bring food to him he will run away from me and the food. What is up with the Charlies and their food. I am having a hard time with him too. I don't want to keep changing food so going to let him eat when he is hungry. He drinks plenty of water so i am not that worry.

Has Charlie ever had bloodwork done, like before his neuter? Has he had a bile acids test?

Liver disease is so common in Yorkies they all should have a bile acids test, but especially if they show any symptoms. One of the symptoms is being a picky eater. Eating makes them feel sick so they don't want to eat.

I really think a vet visit and bile acids test is in order.

I am bringing Charlie for pre-op blood work tomorrow actually, he's supposed to get neutered next Friday. Is the bile acids test part of the pre-op blood work or I should ask for that separately?

Thanks so much everyone!!!

A bile acids test is separate. It is two paired blood samples around a meal. I would definitely get it done before his neuter. If his liver is not functioning properly, anesthesia could be very dangerous.

Here is information on the bile acids test:

....... so you all think he's pooping & peeing everywhere is his way of telling me he's sick?

It's not like he misses his daddy or anything else right?

He still plays around like usual ...

It could be emotional, anything really, but I do think you should rule out a liver shunt first. A bile acids test is very simple and inexpensive.

Usually the most simple explanation is the right one. He could not be feeling well and on top of that you husband isnt there, even though yur yorkie isnt close to your husband he is still the alpha in the house. take away the alpha and everything falls apart. when im at home my yorkies are angels, never pee or poo inside. once i go to work..all the rules go out the window.

Although getting the tests may be good to ease your mind, they will probably come back negative making you even more worried because you still wont have the answer and you are now a few hundred dollars lighter in the bank.

solution: mix a little wet food and wait for daddy to come home.

hope everything works out for you

Why would her husband necessarily be the alpha? Are you a man, by any chance?

To the OP, what does his poop look like? If it's very wet and soft, he could be having some bowel upset. If it's normal... not sure.

Thor does the same thing with food. I get all excited because he wolfs down some kind of kibble for a week, and then suddenly he can't bear the sight of it. I have a lot of almost-full bags of dog food. I haven't had the same experience with poop all over the place though.

Any chance it has to do with his newly raging hormones?

I had a problem with Boo and hes eating habits for a long time, He kept having bouts of sickness and wouldnt eat his food. Had him to the vets to check everything was ok he had tests which all came back fine. Vet said it was probably his food, so did some research into different foods as I wasnted something he liked and something that was all natural. He's been on Burns Mini Bites and Natures menu with a little Missing Link added and he now cant wait to get his meals. Hope you find out what's causing the problem, I would certainly have him checked out at the vets. Give him a hug from us.

Thanks everyone ... ummm in terms of newly raging hormones ... do you think that could be a reason??? His "balls just dropped" a couple weeks ago and he's started wanting to mark even in the house, I caught his twice but discouraged him right away ...

I had such a picky eater and after testing with nothing found to be wrong and he still did this I got the advice to boil some liver and just drop some of the water NOT THE MEAT over his kibble and give him some plain Yoghurt three times a week and now he can't wait for his food with or without the liver water over it and has picked up weight and is looking good.

He is scheduled to have pre op bloodwork done anyway because he is getting neutered. All Yorkies should have a bile acids test.

When ypu say peeing all over the house, do you mean small spots in the same places over and over or random random places? Are the spots large or small? Is he drinking more?
