I guess I am lucky because I trust my Vet AND he has a boarding facility. Its Not cheap & I am not saying that my two LOVE going but I know that they are safe and if anything would happen they would be where they needed to be....so I dont worry about them...um... as much...well at least I don't worry all day long about them!! lol;)

I did leave mine at the vets office a long time ago. They let them out to potty twice a day(which mine are pad trained, but, still they wouldn't want to go in that tiny little cage. It was more stressful for mine being put in there than left home in her own surroundings. The vets are there, until 5:00, then your pets are left alone until the next day. The one time I left mine she was so upset by the time I picked her up, I decided never to do it again.

I wouldn't sneak my dog into a hotel that doesn't allow animals (just because I wouldn't want to get booted out in the middle of the night). I am far more concerned about hotel stayers that are using illegal drugs and doing illegal activities in hotel rooms. There are much worse things that you can do in a hotel room then sneak your pet in.

Some of these reponses are amazing... I understand that they are our pets and you have to take full resposnibility for them but man.. telling her not to go because she cant find someone to watch her dog for 1 night is ridiculous. ((rolling eyes)). I think if she was to confine her dog to a area, made sure it had its safe had clean pads, food and water it should be just fine. Like some of the others said leave a light or tv on for comfort. If she can get someone to come over would be great but the dog will survive 1 night alone.
I would never try to sneak my dogs into someplace they werent welcome no matter how small they are. Its all about respect. I wouldnt want to hear dogs barking all night long or go into a room that has hair all over it or smells like a pee when I paid for a room at a non pet friendly hotel. That would upset me big time. I was at a pet friendly hotel this past weekend. My dogs are not barkers, they dont shed but they are outside trained and refuse to use a potty pad. There was only one way out of the hotel to take my dogs out, the front door in front of the service desk. How would one who had an outside trained dog take their dog out in a non pet friendly hotel,if they only had one way out? Stuff it in your shirt? Let it pee and poo in the room???
I dont care what any of you say.. if its not a pet friendly hotel and you have your dog with you. The staff knows.. they may not say anything to you, because if they did they may loose your buisness but they know.
In 2 weeks my daughter has a dance competition and we are staying the entire weekend at a hotel where the competiton is being held. It is not pet friendly.. I will not be taking my dogs. I have a sitter already lined up. I hate leaving them home, they are my babies..however I will follow the rules..:)

Like I said I am lucky. I've seen the cages and their is plenty room for their personal bed and toys. My daughter went to high school with my vets daughter and She is always around playing and helping with the boarders.(they don't take many) I have returned early from trips and had to pick Mac up from their house once because she took him home over the weekend(o.k. by me) and when I got there he was propped up on their couch like a king and the other time he was loose in the back office with the girls being spoiled. My babies don't like being with anyone but me & the DH, but if I had to choose it would be boarding over alone. And more so now that I have two because you never know when Maci is going to get PO'ed at Mac and decide to rip him a new one! lol

I've left mine overnight but not often, i've probably only done it like twice and i have 3 so they have each other. I just leave them in one room and make sure there is nothing that can fall on them, they can chew on, and leave food and water and their pads/beds, etc.. If i only had one i would worry that she would get lonely so i would prob. sneak her into the hotel room if it were already booked. Rules..smules..lol jk

This same thing happened to us for Valentine's Day.....we booked a nice room, actually their nicest King Suite (in town) just for a day away from home. We left her home, like we usually do when we're gone during the day. Then, about 9-ish, we went home to pick her up. My original plan was to sneak her in because I did NOT want to leave her home alone, but I also didn't want to have to pay a "pet" fee, especially since the room already cost a fortune. After I checked in, though, I read on some paperwork in the hotel that well-behaved pets were welcome, but that a cleaning fee would be charged if need be. After that, I didn't worry about sneaking....just took her on in. Bella isn't a barker and she sleeps in our bed, so it was easy-peasy! But, the next morning, I took her with me down to get breakfast.....I tried leaving her, but she barked because she was in an unfamiliar place, so I just carried her with me. (I stayed back from the food and let my bf put things on the plate for me so noone would get their panties in a wad!)
Anyway, to the OP....you've gotten LOTS of advice, but here's mine: IF you can't find a babysitter, and IF she doesn't bark and is pad-trained, I'd just sneak her in if she were mine...just make sure to bring pet stain and odor remover with you, jic! What could she possibly do that would be worse than what goes on in hotels??? I have to not think about it.....people puke and worse all over those floors, even in nice hotels, maybe ESPECIALLY in nice hotels. I'd rather step on carpet that has been cleaned up with appropriate cleaner (like Nature's Miracle or whatever) than carpet that had been puked on or worse and was only half cleaned up by the maid!! JMO though..... I hope you have a great time!!

My biggest concern about taking a dog into a hotel that is not pet friendly are health issues for those who will be sleeping in the room after you. For example, my grandmother and mother have dog allergies so badly that if they were to stay in a hotel room after someone had a dog in the room, they would have a pretty bad reaction if the room was cleaned up REALLY well. Some people may have to check to make sure it ISN'T pet friendly. Something to consider. :)

My biggest concern is how clean are hotels anyway! I would rather stay in a hotel room that has had a dog took in it than some people. Watch some talk shows on what is left in hotel rooms. Dogs are the least of the problems.

way to go!!!!!! You are great, and right about what goes on in hotels, puking is not to worst of it. My sister used to be a maid in a hotel, the stories she could tell.
