Apartment Dwellers
 

I have a question that I hope that some "experienced" apartment people might know...Basically advice

It is beginning to look like a really strong possibility that the B's :bee::bee::bee:and I might be moving to an apartment.

Can 3 little ones live comfortably in an apartment.....We would be leaving a house w/ a yard going to an apartment...

Any advice??
Any experiences???
Any reccomendations?

I live in an apartment and mine do fine.I do walk them,but I have to forgive the zoomies when they run through the house full sppeed ahead:D.

The only down side is they stay on my furniture :rolleyes:as we don't have enough room to put up all their beds in the living room,so we have to maneuver them around every time we sit.

Do they bark a lot? Because that can be a huge concern.

Barney and Belle do not bark at all...bevo does a bit but i have been working with the spray bottle and that is helping

My three are 7 lbs 5.5 lbs and 2.7 lbs as of this weekend...They are use to getting on my recliner and office chair..

We live in a weird unconventional little duplex, kinda like an apartment, open living room/kitchen/breakfast area and two bedrooms. At first, we didn't have a fenced in yard, and just took Nikko outside for walks and potties on a leash every time. Nice long walks are definitely important. I only have one pup, but I don't think it would be so bad (space-wise anyways) to have three. Hopefully you can take all three on a walk at the same time? That'd make things a lot easier for you.

The only thing I think would be really difficult is if they are all outdoor potty trained and you don't have a door in your apartment that leads directly to the outdoors. If you have to go down stairs, or through a hallway every time, with everybody leashed up, I think that would get pretty frustrating pretty quickly.

Nikko is obsessed with being outside, and he was starting to wear us down with how often he pretended like he had to pee just so we would take him outside. So finally I broke down and went to Home Depot... you can find some really pretty inexpensive plastic-coated wire fencing there that you could set up around an apartment patio or something like that. Matching metal fence posts and everything, you might spend $50 max (possibly less) to make a little 5x5 ft safe area for them to pee/poo/sun themselves in just outside your apartment door, assuming it leads to the outdoors. Just a thought :-)

Also make sure your potential apartment complex is OK with that many dogs - it's halfway common to find a place that will accept one small dog, but it seems to be pretty rare to find one that will accept three!

Good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine no matter what you decide, and whatever your situation becomes, you'll find a way to make it work. You just have to get creative sometimes! :-)

We moved into an apartment recently (Cash, my sister and I) and Cash has been doing fine. He got a little depressed in the beginning, but I got him loads of intelligence toys, so now he is fine with it.
I will be getting a puppy in April, so then we will have two dogs in the apartment. But I think if Cash can make it, any yorkie can since he is incredibly active.

She is right I forgot as I am on the lower floor but I have a large grass area out back for potty.

Right again I am over my limit by 5:eek:. The association says no/landlord says don't care/neighbors don't mind/I am not giving them up.

I would suggest keeping this in mind.I don't wish to break rules but if called on it, I will move with all my pets.

Me and me two guys live in a condo
we're on the 39th floor in our building and they are doing fine
if you have 3 the concerns I would think about is the size of the apt
the area where they will be kept
if there is rug vs hard surface flooring
Rugs no matter how well trained a dog is make my skin crawl
and of course the pet policy of the building where you live
If all the answers to these questions are positive there is nothing to keep you from being very happy with your pups
Yorkies are tailor made for apt living

We live in a townhouse with no back yard. We have a small concrete area with grass behind that. We can't but up a fence for General Lee, so we walk him. Also, he is potty pad trained so that at night we don't have to go out. I have lived in apartments pretty much all my time growing up and 95% of my married life. We have had dogs most of the time. Yorkies are the most adaptable fur baby there is. You will need patience with them to get them used to it and to learn to go when everyone is outside. If you can, I would suggest that you take the babies to the new apartment before you move in to get them used to the smell. When we moved, we were able to do that and we were also able to let the dog stay in the new apartment with my daughter while we moved in. Getting them to know it while you are not rushed and stressed my moving helps them. Good luck.

I live in an Upstairs apt with just one. She will not go downstairs , which is good. And I carry her leash, harness and all every time. I could not imangine three of them.
I think A Condo, or townhouse would be a lot more suitable for you with three yorkies, and possibiliy more accomodating.
LIving downstairs is the best thing to do as well too. And having access to a back door or to go into will help you manage all three dogs at once. :aimeeyork

I think your biggest problem will be finding an apartment complex that will allow you to have three dogs. The limit is generally one or two.

chester has only known apartment living, he is potty pad trained, and he will also go to the door when he needs to go out. Let them get used to the noises and keep up with their familiar stuff, toys, beds etc. I would let them maybe meet the neighbors if you choose to do that. I keep his leash by the front door, they are pretty adaptable as long as they are with their humans, dont forget potty bags, since you dont have a yard now. I always keep the tv or radio on for chester if it is more noisey outside.
