Do you let your pup have run of the house 24/7 ???? I was wondering if anyone lets their furbabies have full run of the house all of the time. I always hear everyone talking about crates and gates and stuff but didnt know if I was the only one that let mine have free run 24/7. Although we are here most of the time and we are able to let him out frequently. |
not 24/7 but all waking hours she does :) |
Ours have free run of the house all day...the only time they go in their kennels is at bedtime or if we have to leave. We have left the adults out while we were gone but now with the puppies it's best if everyone is kenneled when we leave. |
I don't use crates but I do use gates. Mine are 3 and 5 and no they don't have full range. Mine are only allowed upstairs when I go up and then they have to stay on my bed. The living room is gated off and they stay out unless someone is in there. When I am not home, they are restricted to the kitchen and laundry room. Mayzie is just too curious for her own good. |
Precious has free run all day every day!!! She is a very very good girl.:D MOMMY TO PRECIOUS :aimeeyork |
Winston has free run of the house while we are here with him...but while we are away, he is gated in the kitchen...this is for his own safety, not the houses. |
We let our first two yorkies run the house and sleep with us, however as I get older my sleep is lighter and everytime Gracie moved, I woke up!! So we have two little puppies and we are having a rough time with poddy training: so they are crated when we leave the house, at night for sleep and then kept in the living room with gates when we are home. We stay in the living room so we can grab them and put them on the training papers!! Sandy |
Tucker used to be crated when we were working on house breaking, but now he is 100% house broken and he doesn't chew or anything, so he gets full run of the house! :) When we're not home he will usually just go to sleep on my bed, but he can wander as he pleases. :) |
Sapphire is gated in the kitchen all the time. She stays there unless I'm holding her, or we let her out to train/play in the living room. Of course, she takes that opportunity to fly through the whole house! Running and running and staying just out of reach. We have to chase her and hope to catch her before she pees on the carpet... |
Sydney and Chloe have free run of most of the house while we are home ( no bedrooms /upstairs unless we are with them) but when we leave I put them in their crates/play-yard so I don't have to worry about their safety while I'm gone. They also go into their crate/playyard at night. |
We are still potty training so Fancy does not have free run of the house yet. I hope that one day she is well behaved enough to let her run around when we are not at home but right now when we leave she is gated in the laundry room. I don't use a crate although I am considering buying one when start potty training outside. (still waiting for warmer/nicer weather);) Right now we are using potty pads. Maybe one day we can do away with the gate!:hands: |
Bailey has full run of the house - upstairs and down stairs - and she sleeps with us at night. However, while I'm at work, Bailey is in an ex-pen. I would feel real bad if she got into something harfmul and I wasn't here. She has never chewed on anything - but I don't want to take any chances. |
yes my bingo has full run of the house but ever since he was a baby he had a bad habit to run out so before we leave now we put a gate in our hallway area and keep the bedroom doors open for him he also got his own room area i started this today he seemed to be good with it its very difficult to chase him but i trust him and he dont pee on furniture and he dosnt bite furniture either so he is pretty good |
Not until she was almost 2 years old. She was in a playpen until she was 1 and then in the kitchen until she was 2. Now she is a free dog! |
Abby is crated at night and when we leave the house. We have a couple of gates up where we don't want her to go otherwise she can roam the house which is by the way very small. We keep her in our sight at all times as she is only 6 months old and we are still working on potty training. |
Oliver has had free run in the house since day one :D |
When we are home he is allowed to go anywhere (except our bedroom) but he ends up cuddling with us on the couch most the time... or following us into the bathroom, which, while cute, is annoying... or sitting on my feet as I cook food hoping I'll drop a bit of carrot or something. When we are at work, if it's only for a few hours and during his "nap time" then we'll put him in his crate. If it's for more than 5-6 hours I drop him off at my parents so he can play with my mom's dog. I think most people do the crate thing mostly for potty-training. We know when Kingston has to go now, so we just keep an eye on him. |
My little 3lb. Winston has free run all day every day, nor do I use crates or gates. I refuse to have him couped up, and at bedtime I have him sleeping in my arms :) |
We let yogurt run free downstairs and whenever he wants to go upstairs he would sit by the stairs. We don't let him use the stairs because we are too afraid of him tumbling down the stairs. It all works out great since he likes to be carried up and down the stairs |
We close doors of rooms we don't want them having access to (bathroom, for instance), but they pretty much get free rein 24-7 otherwise. The only exception is when one is sick; then we'll either crate or babygate them in the kitchen. |
Missy had free reign up until she broke her leg a month ago. Now she needs to be in her ex pen for 6-8 weeks to heal. I know it's a pretty young age to give them free reign, but she's never done anything wrong so I have no reason to confine her. |
Lucy pretty much has free rein (except the bedroom). If we're not in the lounge, we shut that door, but otherwise, she's queen of all she surveys. |
Squirts had the free run of the house since he was 6 months old. Gus needs to be watched all the time, & stays in a playpen when I go out. I guess it's a younger generation thing. |
magic has full run of the house at all times. he is a very good boy and since he was 6 months old he could go anywhere he wants. he is 100% housebroke and i know he would never do anything. when we go to work the thought that he would do something never enters our minds. alot of attention and training and he soon knew what he was allowed and what he wasn't allowed to do. he even goes on vacation with us and is just as good no matter if we are in hotel or someone elses home. we still are not afraid to leave him to go somewhere.:aimeeyork |
She is free APRIL WAS HOUSEBOKE AT A VERY YOUNG AGE AS WE GOT HER WHEN SHE WAS 7 WEEKS, BY 10 WKS. SHE WAS PERFECT AND STILL IS. i DO CRATE HER WHEN WE GO OUT JUST FOR MY SAKE. i FEEL MORE RELAXED THAT SHE CANT GET INTO ANYTHING, SHE IS 18MONTHS OLD AND NOT THAT SHE WOULD GET INTO ANYTHING, BUT THIS WAY i'M SURE. sHE USUALLU JUST SLEEPS. |
We usually do,but Aiden has been acting out,and knocking over our garbage cans. I have been putting them in there pens if we are all out. Sick of cleaning up his mess...I think he gets mad if we don't bring him everywhere.. |
Except bedrooms, Keegan has full run of the house all of the time. Clarence gets full run when we're home but he actually likes his play area while we're gone & at night the prefers his crate. Oh yeah, he DEMANDS to go to bed a 9pm SHARP! He's my sweetie. |
all my dogs are crated at night and when we leave. I keep gates on my bedroom doors cause Tucker is still pottying training, but other than that they have free reign. :) |
Jackson only gets a certain part of the house but it's a fairly big part of the house. It's like an in-law suit. He only gets to come to the other side if I'm with him. But he's only 5 months old right now. I have left him out (i.e. not in a crate or a pen) when I've left before and he did absolutely fine. I think he just sleeps when I'm gone. Whenever I visit my dads house, he's never in a crate or a pen. We just block off the upstairs from him & their dog (who is 1 1/2 years old) because the cats litter box and food is upstairs. I just let him have free run of the downstairs since it's all hardwood and tile anyways and he's never had an accident when we leave. |
My babies have crates for bedtime and when I can't keep my eyes on them (like while cooking). Chloe is 22wks and Milo is 12wks. We just got Milo last Thursday and he goes in and out of his crate at his leisure. I keep the doors open all day, and only shut them when I leave or at bedtime. They love having a place of their own (it's like their ancient ancesters, the wolves, who lived in caves). When it starts getting late, Chloe will go to her crate and bark! It's like she is telling me...I want to go to bed!!! Chloe is almost completely housebroken, Milo has had one accident since I picked him up. He is catching on so quick!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
