Hey, That's My Yorkie! I had a interesting , and a bit disturbing experience last night in Petsmart. I took my Suzi to have her nails trimmed and whiskers snipped . No Big deal. But, we had to wait our turn. So I let Suzi on her harness and leash go exploring . She is little miss friendly and quite the social butterfly towards everybody. Everybody had to ooooh and ahhh over her , so she was getting so much attention. Well there were a bunch of people coming over to her, to look at her and pet her, then I just happen to turn my head, and right next to me a woman was taken My Suzi's picture on her cell phone ! HUH? WTF? that to me was not cool. taking pictures of someone's dog? My Suzi! She does not know me, A stranger! Ummm now what the heck is she going to do? Myspace? PLace my girl anywhere on the internet? Tell people that is her yorkie? As soon as i saw her doing that , I believe she quit, but not so certain. HAs this ever happened to anybody? I also got the comment from my neighbor yesterday pm , That my Suzi looks like a rat... AHHH yes the famous Yorkie rat remark... I chuckled and said to her, you should see her all wet! Whatever, that did not bother me as much as strangers taking pictures of my Suzi:thumbdown |
People take pictures of Thor all the time. Granted, I walk him in a touristy area, and ASFAIK, people always ask first. My guess is that the girl just sent a pic to her friends saying, look at how cute this dog is. It's always nicer if people ask first, though. Sometimes people pick Thor up without asking, which I find a bit presumptuous. What if he was a biter?? |
people take my dogs pictures all the time too especially when they are in their carriage with matching bows or shirts on....but they usually ask first...one person set them as their screen saver on their cell phone.... |
People try to take Mavericks pictures all the time.... most of the time i will pick him up and scoop him in so they wont but those that i know i will allow them to take his picture. |

YES, that happened to me last weekend at a busy park near our home. I didn't notice, but my hubby did. He said, "Hey, someone's taking a picture of your dog". I turned and looked, and sure enough! There was a man and a woman with a fancy lookin' camera snapping several pictures from a few feet away. I gave him a glare, and he stopped...but I still wonder what he wanted pics of Missy for. I think people should ask first. |
that's what got me, there was no asking:thumbdown |
I get it all the time with Garrett. I even had a grandmother take a photo of her 3 year old granddaughter hugging him. I don't mind because he's micro chipped, and has tags. Usually it's just that people are amazed to see such a huge, fluffy white dog. Is your pup microchipped? |
i wouldnt like it if they didnt ask,it maybe harmless becuz yorkies are super cute but i still find it odd...ppl always want to hold bailee which of course is not gonna happen unless i kno them... |

Happens to us all the time too. People constantly grabbing at Curly or taking her pic. No surprise to me though. I have perfect strangers on the street grab MY hair and tug on it asking if it's real! Of course it is! But what if it wasn't? And YOU grabbed it. Idiots! It's like when you're pregnant and everyone helps themselves to a rub of your belly. WTF is that??? Don't freaking touch me! No you can't touch my baby either and don't even LOOK at my dog! Geez, the nerve! |
I agree. Boundries people boundries. What if they saw a cute kid? Would they stop to take a picture. Go away it's not a freak show. Can't even enjoy a little outing without people hovering. Go away. Just say he bites people will go away. |
Ok, Im a photographer. and I could NOT imagine taking pictures of someone's dog. I have taking pictures of people playing with animals at the dog park, but always from far away, and usually where you cant recognize the dog or person. But to just walk up and take pictures of your dog, thats rude! |
As far as I know no one has ever taken a photo of Violet, but someone did pick her up once without asking, which I thought was RUDE. I was terrified, too, that she'd drop Violet - she had no idea how squirmy she can be! |
Do you mean you let her go exploring all on her own with you not hold of the lead? or were you holding it? Someone could have easily taken her as they could have taken a picture. |
I live in an area of a city that gets a lot of tourists and people do it all the time. I don't mind. |
Hmmm. I am an older person-born pre-internet-which makes me not really think about these things much. Infact, I would feel proud if someone took a picture of my baby. However, I work in adoption, and we are constantly trying to educate our families about putting their children's pictures on the internet. I never thought about my dog. Since I live in the midwest, and in a city that is pretty safe, I just don't give it a thought. Thanks for the safety lesson. |
Mine have had their pictures taken by total strangers - I'm not that worried about it. But I do want to be asked 1st. This past July - we were at the state Capital grounds for this huge concert & fireworks display - the dogs were in their finest Red white & Blue July 4 attire - they attracted so much attn & all it took was one person wanting to take a picture, to a gaggle of people with cameras & phones  Really when I started reading your story, and said you took her off leash - I really thought you were going to say someone tried to take off with her. I just do not take my dogs off leash |
Hmmm. I guess people can feel differently about this type of things. At this point I don't mind at all. If I get mad each time... then I would be a mad woman.. :) When I walk Haruka in Boston on sunny day.. for an hour...maybe 100 pics get taken....1/3 of the time people don't ask. |
Hmm... I guess I can see both sides here... I would like someone to ask first, but if they don't want to ruin the moment, and ask afterwards I guess that's ok. I don't really have a problem if people take pictures of Sapphire, which doesn't really happen that often besides family. She's cute all dressed up and I think it's great they want to remember her in her little outfit. :) Picking them up or petting them without asking, though, is a big NO-NO! What if they were to bite? Or don't like being held a certain way, or at all by a stranger? If you want to pet or hold another dog, ALWAYS ask first!! |
People do that in public all the time to my dogs and I dont mind. I recently took the plunge and bought a very expensive semi pro DSLR camera. It's a new hobby I just took up and dont like the posed pics. I was thinking of going to the dog park and testing my new found skills on the bigger dogs while running. Never thought anyone would be upset from it. Guess its something to think about. I have been asked to email pics when someone saw me taking one of an event and have even had people say they forgot their camera and would I mind taking a picture and emailing it to their home address. I guess stars go thru it with the paparazi all the time. Its not illegal which is why they get so upset. With my dogs, I realize not everyone is as blessed to be owned by a Yorkie like mine and if they want to hold on to a little picture, I dont mind. As long as they are not in any danger and are fully under my care I dont see the harm. |
I think it annoys me so much because I'm standing right beside Missy, and I DO NOT like having my picture taken at all. Particularly by a complete stranger, and not knowing where that picture will end up. If someone were to ask me if they could take my picture (or Missy's), to be perfectly honest I would say "NO". I don't see the need for anyone who is a stranger to have a picture of us, whether Missy is cute or not. She is mine, and I don't have to share her if I don't wanna :p Yeah...I know, I'm mean ;) |

I bet your babies looked adorable at the concert:) I hoped those people asked to take pictures of your furbies. |

Yes, the 1st person asked - they were little kids - that's what opened up the can of worms  |
 Quote:
Thats strange....No one takes peanut's picture they just attack me when we go ANYWHERE!! People will just bumbard us like they know me or something..its very strange. But anywho I guess thats the price you pay when you have a extremly cute furbaby and on top of that a yorkie..you know somepeople think he is a chiuahah!!!! Yes I was so mad at the person who said that I just walked away I couldnt help myself! Peanut looks NOTHING like a chiuhah!!! And he aslo has looked like a shi-zu:rolleyes: people are nuts!! P.S you get her whiskers snipped?? Why do you do that? |

I felt like I had a time warp for a moment... She was worried about the pic going to MySpace!!!!! Lol. Then I looked, it was 2009 when this was posted! But the point Yvonne makes about Craigslist is scary! I hadn't thought about that. :/ |

If person took picture and then explained why they did so, I'd probably be ok...You know, if it was something like, "I like her cut...or "Your dog looks exactly like my dad's; he won't believe this..." Otherwise, not so much, as it seems somewhat furtive and suspicious. |
I get it a ton, having a service dog. One time I had been traveling all day and was waiting for my bags and I was tired and wanted to leave, and someone was taking shots of my dog working. Like ugh. They didn't ask either. It is so uncomfortable. |
