Hmmm. I am an older person-born pre-internet-which makes me not really think about these things much. Infact, I would feel proud if someone took a picture of my baby. However, I work in adoption, and we are constantly trying to educate our families about putting their children's pictures on the internet. I never thought about my dog. Since I live in the midwest, and in a city that is pretty safe, I just don't give it a thought. Thanks for the safety lesson. |
Mine have had their pictures taken by total strangers - I'm not that worried about it. But I do want to be asked 1st. This past July - we were at the state Capital grounds for this huge concert & fireworks display - the dogs were in their finest Red white & Blue July 4 attire - they attracted so much attn & all it took was one person wanting to take a picture, to a gaggle of people with cameras & phones  Really when I started reading your story, and said you took her off leash - I really thought you were going to say someone tried to take off with her. I just do not take my dogs off leash |
Hmmm. I guess people can feel differently about this type of things. At this point I don't mind at all. If I get mad each time... then I would be a mad woman.. :) When I walk Haruka in Boston on sunny day.. for an hour...maybe 100 pics get taken....1/3 of the time people don't ask. |
Hmm... I guess I can see both sides here... I would like someone to ask first, but if they don't want to ruin the moment, and ask afterwards I guess that's ok. I don't really have a problem if people take pictures of Sapphire, which doesn't really happen that often besides family. She's cute all dressed up and I think it's great they want to remember her in her little outfit. :) Picking them up or petting them without asking, though, is a big NO-NO! What if they were to bite? Or don't like being held a certain way, or at all by a stranger? If you want to pet or hold another dog, ALWAYS ask first!! |
People do that in public all the time to my dogs and I dont mind. I recently took the plunge and bought a very expensive semi pro DSLR camera. It's a new hobby I just took up and dont like the posed pics. I was thinking of going to the dog park and testing my new found skills on the bigger dogs while running. Never thought anyone would be upset from it. Guess its something to think about. I have been asked to email pics when someone saw me taking one of an event and have even had people say they forgot their camera and would I mind taking a picture and emailing it to their home address. I guess stars go thru it with the paparazi all the time. Its not illegal which is why they get so upset. With my dogs, I realize not everyone is as blessed to be owned by a Yorkie like mine and if they want to hold on to a little picture, I dont mind. As long as they are not in any danger and are fully under my care I dont see the harm. |
I think it annoys me so much because I'm standing right beside Missy, and I DO NOT like having my picture taken at all. Particularly by a complete stranger, and not knowing where that picture will end up. If someone were to ask me if they could take my picture (or Missy's), to be perfectly honest I would say "NO". I don't see the need for anyone who is a stranger to have a picture of us, whether Missy is cute or not. She is mine, and I don't have to share her if I don't wanna :p Yeah...I know, I'm mean ;) |

I bet your babies looked adorable at the concert:) I hoped those people asked to take pictures of your furbies. |

Yes, the 1st person asked - they were little kids - that's what opened up the can of worms  |

I felt like I had a time warp for a moment... She was worried about the pic going to MySpace!!!!! Lol. Then I looked, it was 2009 when this was posted! But the point Yvonne makes about Craigslist is scary! I hadn't thought about that. :/ |

If person took picture and then explained why they did so, I'd probably be ok...You know, if it was something like, "I like her cut...or "Your dog looks exactly like my dad's; he won't believe this..." Otherwise, not so much, as it seems somewhat furtive and suspicious. |
I get it a ton, having a service dog. One time I had been traveling all day and was waiting for my bags and I was tired and wanted to leave, and someone was taking shots of my dog working. Like ugh. They didn't ask either. It is so uncomfortable. |
