Does anyone else have a long yorkie? Does anyone here have a yorkie who is the opposite of cobby? It's not that Thor looks like he's been crossed with a daschund or anything, but he has no body fat to speak of, and these super-long legs attached to this super-long body. If he were human, he'd be a supermodel. Right now he's sleeping with his legs tucked under him, and he looks like a furry, grey snake. A furry grey snake with a yorkie head. Do you know what I mean? If you look at my avatar, you can probably see how long his body his. I think that shot makes him look slightly disproportionate, like he has a tiny bean head on this long, slinky body. His head is in proportion to his body... his long, long body. Maybe it's that he is very small (4 lbs) and still has the face of a puppy without the chubby, short-limbed puppy body. I don't know. Someone please help me figure it out! |
I don't know about all that but I do know that I LOVE your avatar picture and he's cute as a button! |
My girl's long and leggy so in a way, she still meets standard--sort of, as she's about as long as she is tall. She's thin too. I've always been calling her our little supermodel. ;) She forgets that she's supposed to aspire to be a yorkie supermodel which is short and cobby, instead, she's trying to be a human one. :) She has small facial features so sometimes, I think people who only see her head think she's smaller than she actually is. :) I'm just glad she isn't long and stumpy... then she'd really resemble a relative of the doxies. :) |
1 Attachment(s) Hahaha, yeah Nikko is a long and lanky boy too. Here's the best picture I have to show off how long he is. What really cracks me up is that right before he stretches, he "opposite-stretches" and arches his back up really high - it looks exactly like a cat that's being terrorized. Attachment 266773 |
Wrigley and Camden weigh almost exactly the same, but they are different in length and height! Wrigley has longer legs and her body has a good couple inches on Camden. Camden is a shrimp, low to the ground and she's short! |
My Mayzie is on the long side. Mo is short and cobby. |
Nolee is long and has long legs also! Either way, your baby is adorable! |
charlie is long and leggy too. He is getting bigger and bigger. I am thinking he might be weighing 7-8lbs now..he is 6 months old. |
Mine is really long too. He's been really long ever since we first saw him at 8 weeks old. The funny thing is, we had originally fallen in love with a long and big yorkie we saw on a train once. Their was something about him that made him different from the other yorkies, b/c of his length and size. His personality was different too...more calm and knowing. And our little guy is starting to look so much like the one who made us want a yorkie in the first place! |
My Chachi is 11 lbs and very long and lean |
No input about the size but I just want to say your baby is so adorable looking and I love his coat. Your avatar is so cute. =) |
My mom and her friend bought two sisters and my mom's friends yorkie is SO long, floppy ears and a tail. She looks like a mix to me but still cute. Of course my moms is the opposite, not as long, standing ears and no tail :p |
2 Attachment(s) My Brandi is a long one too! We joke that she is part Daschund, but we own both her parents, so we know she's 100% yorkie! |
What do you guys consider long ? I always thought Dymond looked long. Have any of you with long babies measured their length? |
I don't consider a dog long, if they have long legs as well, this would make them more square shaped, which I think is perfect. Long body to me means that the body is long in proportion to its legs, more like a Daschund. Quote:

Thor actually is "square" shaped, he's just extremely lean, has small bones, and a narrow frame. Maybe if he gained a little weight, he wouldn't give this impression. It's strange, when he's on the ground, he is tiny (4 lbs) and looks like a cute little puppy. Maybe I've just been looking at him too "long" myself. |
1 Attachment(s) I know that Mika is 100% yorkie and is 10/11 inches at the withers and 14 inches long!!! I do wonder if she will get any taller (she is 11 months) but I don't really mind I think its cute! |
Tucker is short and chubby.. so I guess he is cobby. :) Your Thor is as cute as can be. I love his little face and his coloring. |
bailee is pretty long too...ive never measured though |
Baxter is 10 inches tall and 10 inches at the top of his shoulders. I think he looks like until my "niece" dachsund comes over. Then I realize he is short. |

Piper is leggy with a long body. She also looks square, slight build, and weighs 5.2lbs. My other Yorkie had short legs, stocky body and weighed 14llbs. When he passed on at 13 he still looked like a puppy. We always kept him in the puppy cut and he had a cottony coat and he looked like a big teddy bear. The first time I had Piper groomed I had her done in a puppy cut and she looked terrible. She has a silky coat and the puppy cut made her look even leggier and naked. She looks better with her hair longer. |

I sure wish his mommy had the same problem! |

Pao has the same measurement as Mika! He looks long to me as well especially when he stretches! |

My Maddy is the same way. She is tiny around only 6 pounds but I always tease that she is part weiner dog. lol. And when she sleeps and Strrrretches out she looks like a foot long!!! |
1 Attachment(s) I have a long boy! He's LONG and LEAN! He's about 9lbs but super skinny. I put him on Taste of the Wild dogfod and he's filled out quite a bit, so he might even be 10lbs now! Here he is! My Fletcher! |
My baby is just as long-bodied as she is long legged! She isn't 'cobby' or 'stuffy' at all - definately all sleek and long!! I have trouble getting clothes to fit her because of her length (approx 12" from neck to tail-base) xXx |
1 Attachment(s) Quicksilver thor is such a little cutie pie. He's got an adorable face. how old is he now? how's the potty training going? any better? Madison is 9 mos old and since she was spayed about 3 weeks ago she's filled out. seems to be a little thicker. she only gets a 1/4 cup of kibble twice a day and 1 tablespoon of wet food mixed in. she's 5.2 lbs the day of her spay. |
Thanks everyone for the compliments! scentlady, the potty training is going much better, thanks for asking. I finally broke down and started crating him. Now that I see how much easier it is, I can't believe I waited this long. Now every couple hours I put his on his pad and tell him "potty". And he does! He is 2 1/2 years old... way to old not to be potty trained. ;) |
