Red Legged Yorkies Has anyone ever heard of red legged yorkies? I was at a website today and first heard of it. I think my yorkie maybe one. His legs and most of the hair on his head is orange. I would like to know how they differ from a regular yorkie. Thanks Tauni |
New to me - but I'd love to see your yorkie - do you have a picture ? |
Never heard of it but would love too see also. |

Red legged Yorkies are also called wirehaired Yorkies . Because they are black and red as adult and never have long coat . The are not different from the other ones except for the coat not growing . |
I would love to see a picture as well. |

i've never heard of a red legged yorkie.. |
They are just like any other yorkie except for the very slow growing coat which to some people wouldn't be relevant as they keep their babies in puppy cuts. Their coats aren't ugly they just don't grow it like regular yorkies do. They love you and are great pets like any others. This is not a major or life threatning condition. It would only matter if you are a breeder as you wouldn't want this fault in your lines. |

1 Attachment(s) This is a red legged or a wirehaired Yorkie . They are commonly named like that because they coat never grow . They look like Australian Terriers . |

Yes, his coat is very slow growing. When I first got him (at 4 months) he had a nice full coat. Then it got scraggly looking so I shaved him down pretty far. His coat is slow in growing back, but he feels like silk. I will get some pictures and post. Tauni |
1 Attachment(s) A red legged is just that...he/she has red head and legs course slow growing coat...Red legged are sometimes good to have in a breeding program because they can be used to clarify a color in a breeding...I just so happen to have a reg legged - its Hannah on my webpage |

Here is a picture of a friends of mine dog his name is Rudy. I'm dog sitting for her for the weekend. He looks an awful lot like the picture you have posted. Do you think he is a red legged yorkie? Here is a link to picutres I just posted of his brother Riggs. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16370 |

That's what I thought I just wanted someone elses opinion. I bet she dosen't know about the red legged yorkies either. Thanks again. I will have to tell her about it. |
All of the off-color Yorkies I have seen have the coat you all describe. It is not a standard texture from all that I read. My little choc guy has that same coat and I am strongly considering having him neutered and placed in a pet home. He is small and has a cute personality, but I just cannot convince myself that he is breed quality.. Would someone let me know where to find reliable info on the benefit of using the red-leggged Yorkie in a breeding program. Thanx. |
I bet thats what my elle is too!! AWWW poor girl... She is almost 4 months old and he hair on her legs and face a VERY slow growing...he back is fine but everywhere else...VERY slow.. |

Her hair might be slow-growing, but she certainly is a beautiful girl! |
Orange/Black There are NO different types of Yorkie's the only difference is Color and coat quality - silky or wooly hair texture......some Yorkie's hair grows faster or slower than others? I have seen a bright RED/ORANGE (literally) & BLACK colored one in person and it was very odd looking she claimed she purchased it from a Pet Store locally. It looked nothing like the pic's you guys posted. in fact I have only seen that one, it's not a very common color at all. But from what I know they are not any different than any other Yorkie?:aimeeyork |
Your yorkie is adorable! I too never heard about red-legged. |
2 Attachment(s) Here are a couple pictures of my Elle. The last one is the most recent. Actually I just snapped it a few minutes ago. I talked to my breeder and sent her a few photos and she said it is normal at her age (almost 3 months) to have sparse hair on her muzzle and legs. I just thought I would get your opinion. Attachment 69785 Attachment 69784 |
1 Attachment(s) I would consider her a red leg. Here's a pic of another red leg I met a few months ago.. I would like to know what produces this, it seems to come from perfectly normal coated parents. |
She just has a very very slow growing coat, I don't think she's a red leg. Quote:
