Think this dog is pure bred? 1 Attachment(s) I saw the dog on the internet. He is for sale in the same small town that we live in (just a few thousand people). He is 7 months old. CKC registered. The people didn't say whether or not he had been groomed, but I would think that he would have more hair than what he does if he hasn't, I guess I should ask?... Anywho, we have been in contact and will seeing about having a one week trial basis with him (his name is Midget) with Molly and our 3 cats to make sure he is a good fit for our family... so we will see. Anyway, just wondering what your thoughts on it were. Thanks. |
hmm doesnt look like it to me... looks like he could be part something else... |
Maybe a yorkie-chi? Very cute :) |
Look's like a Chihuahua X yorkie to me. |
Are these people advertising is a pure bred? The markings are off and his muzzle is not that of a Yorkie. He kind of looked like silky/yorkie mix. The most impotant thing to me is if the owners are being truthful . Why they are rehoming, how old the dog is, if he is a mix, and any health problems.:aimeeyork |

Looks like a mix to me. But very cute, anyway! :) |

Ugh. I'm stumped on what to do. I want a male pure bred, not a mix. Would it be bad to go to this woman's house to see the dog in person and then say "no thanks, its a mix, even if you have papers?" and then tell her that I think she got ripped off and should confront her breeder? Would it be horrible of me to take the dog for a few days, post more pictures and see if the angle is "bad" (this is not what I would like to do but I am human and it has crossed my mind. :( ) I just don't know what to do ... and I'm supposed to leave here within an hour to go and check out the pup. |
He looks like a purebred . Yorkies too can have long noses , long ears , long legs and short coats . With all the wannabe breeders , I am not surprised to see some like this one . |
I am definitely not an expert, but he does look like a mix to me. If you want a purebred, I would probably keep looking. :( |
If I were you, i'd follow my heart on this one. IF A mix is not as important to you and the pup melts your heart , then go for it ! There is no harm in looking at this baby, you just might fall in love at first sight! If you don't go you may regret it ! It is not horrible of you to take the dog for a few days and see what he is like, and how you do with him in your family. He may be what your looking for in a dog . |
Hmm, he kinds looks like a mix to me too. Do you have a better picture that we can see? |

I guess I could get more pictures of him in person. But that may be rude to do that, post them and then only take the dog if he really does look like a pure bred. Wouldn't the CKC papers say if he was mixed? The woman who bought the dog doesn't know much about dogs at all. :( I asked her if she saw the mother and she was like "yeah, she is supposed to have long hair, right?" UGH. I forgot to mention that is around 3lbs (7 months). |
I don't think it's rude to take pictures and only take him if he looks purebred. That's what you are looking for. He is cute though :) |
I dont know alot about yorkies yet but could it be just the angle of the picture??? He is really cute maybe you can see him and see his features better! |
Most dogs that are CKC come from the Amish or puppymills. So I would think he is a yorkie just a lower quality one and I would be worried about health issues. But, I guess you have to ask yourself what am I really getting this puppy for. If its just an addition to your family and his quality doesn't matter than it won't hurt to talk to them about him. |
4 Attachment(s) Ok so we picked up the puppy today. I took pictures of him. We looked at his papers and he is NOT 7 months old, he's a week shy of being 5 months. The paperwork says that he is purebred and it has both of the parents CKC numbers on it. His color is listed as "Blue/Gold". He is 4lbs 3oz. Here are some more pictures.... So what do you think? |
hes cute but... all it takes to CKC the puppies parents as pure yorkies is your buddie to sign a paper saying yep looks like a yorkie to me .. CKC is not worth the paper it is printed on ..many people who buy puppies on limited reg will CkC the dogs to get away with somthing ..or if they find a dog or steal a dog that looks yorkie they have a paper and you just need anyone to verrify yeah I guess it could be pure breed .. take a look at the CKC web page ...also people who dont want akc to do inspections on there paperwork or breeding set up will switch to CKC .. its just like the apri ..not much in security on your puppies back ground .. love your puppie Its cute .. lil Guy |
He looks like a full yorkie, very cute but may not be bred to the standard. Hope it works out, he's a cutie. |
He looks purebred to me, are you planning on breeding him? I wouldn't breed him, but he'll make a perfectly adorable pet. That green eye shine looks all yorkie, and that usually means that he'll have a silky coat. Joey had grey hair on the top when he was a puppy, it turned white, then beige, and now it's a richer gold. |

Awww! It's a toss up for me. I was looking at a yorkie/min pin mix and if you seen her you would have never guessed she was not a full blooded yorkie. She had the face, body, coat everything like a yorkie. It can be hard to tell, sometimes the mixes will take after one breed more than the other. Regardless, he is a cutie. I hope it works out with him, he looks like a keeper what ever he is.;) |
It's really hard to say....I've seen yorkie mixes that look more yorkie-like than some supposedly purebred yorkies. When you have so many people breeding pet quality yorkies, you get dogs that deviate very far from the standard. He's a cute little puppy..probably a purebred yorkie, just very pet quality. He looks like he has a coarser coat which won't grow well. |

Here's a picture of Joey at around the same age, notice the hair coloring, and it just got lighter and lighter, and for a while he looked bald. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...pictureid=1872 |
Girl, I think you have become the Angelina of lost Yorkies...LOL He's a doll and as long as you love him and he gets along with Molly, go for it! (Well, as long as your husband approves. Plus now, you'll have his and her dogs.) How is Molly reacting to a new family member? It seems like a good time for another since they can adjust together plus keep each other company...a built-in playmate! I'm excited for you albeit just a bit jealous. When I met you we were both Yorkieless and waiting. Now you have two and I'm still waiting but fortunately with an end in sight. I'm so happy for you! |
You can compare these pics.... 3 Attachment(s) Here is a little female that is AKC and both her parents have CH in their pedigree. She came from a litter we had from Peaches and Rowdy born on Oct 15th, 2008. Attachment 266432 Attachment 266433 Attachment 266434 She has shorter, very soft hair, but grows very slow. Even her nails grow slow, have only trimmed them once. She is also 4 1/2 months old and weighs 29 oz and has held that weight for the past month. While her brothers, on the other hand, have a much thicker, coat and is still really soft but totally different texture than she has; and while she will be way under the standard weight, they s/b within or close. I think her coat even looks a little shorter than his. Does this help with comparison as far as "if it looks like a real yorkie?" I think he's adorable, and I was wondering how he's doing? Getting along with the family? And if he's a little keeper? Maybe? He is pretty adorable. |
