I can't even express how horrible this whole situation is, what awful people. I don't think the general public really understands what "puppy mill" means. I know I heard about it, but really didn't grasp the magnitude of it all. This is very enlighting information that is really showing how horrific this really is.

Those are really hard videos to watch. But VERY important that they are seen. Thanks for posting.

Like everyone else who has posted here, I am shocked, horrified and angered by the plight of the 93 Yorkies taken from the southeast Missouri puppy mill. As I posted yesterday, I'm considering fostering one of the dogs. (I live in St. Louis.) And I appreciate the advice on that issue that's coming in from YTers.

I have an additional idea for helping these precious animals. On December 20, I published a little book called "How the Yorkie Rescued Santa." I made a few preliminary sales to friends, but my plan was to heavily market the books later this year for Christmas '09 sales.

Now I have a different thought. For the next month, I would like to offer my books for sale to YT members, with all net profits pledged to the Humane Society of Missouri, earmarked for the rescued Yorkies. I'm hoping to raise at least $300 for the Humane Society by March 20.

The book is a rhyming, read-aloud story for kids (with some tongue-in-cheek humor for adults to enjoy as well!) -- makes a great gift. An early start to your '09 holiday shopping! Here's the info:

Yorkies are such a wonderful breed:( It is sad and maddning to see a puppy mill like that one:mad: I was feeling bad when my Suzi neded a haircut due to a few mats in her , nOT ever ever, seen anything so horrific then what i just watched:thumbdown
I saw the second video and it was 5:45am... My LIttle Suzi Heard all the Yorkie barking, and she became alarmed too, she started barking her high pitched wooooof wooooof wooof and new she was hearing something absolutely terrifying. She woke up my son too by her barks... Nobody in the household was untouched by this horrific video!
I am glad they are rescued and now have a chance of living a life in a new loving family.

Watching these made me ill. What\'s worse is I know our Punkin came from a similar situation. When those dogs started barking, she started shaking. She remembers!

As long as there are people willing to pay hundreds and thousands for "designer dogs" puppy mills will exist. It\'s supply and demand. When we stop worrying about status and start thinking about the welfare of these animals, when we\'re willing to adopt a homeless dog instead of worrying about if the dog is going to weigh more than 2 pounds, then we might begin to stop these atrocities.

I apologize in advance for my ignorance--Are all "designer" dogs/ mixed breed puppies from puppy mills? I did buy my morkie online because I did not find any local breeders who had what I was looking for and tried to choose a breeder who seemed reputable, but, wasn\'t sure what I was looking for--she really did seem to love her puppies. I wanted a mixed breed puppy because I had been told that they tend to be healthier. As a first time puppy owner I wanted to minimize as many problems as possible.

No, not ALL breeders are puppy mills, but the truly reputable breeders are a very small number compared to the number of puppy mills. A rescue dog takes no more work to train and socialize than a puppy and they love you, probably more, because they\'re so happy to be out of that horrid situation and with a family who loves them. Okay, they might not be absolutely perfect, but unless you\'re going to show them it doesn\'t make a difference if their front teeth are a little crooked or their nose is a little longer, or they weigh 6 pounds instead of 2. It takes a little work, sometimes, to find the adopted/rescue dog you want, but they\'re out there.
