Getting 9 Month Old - Need Advice Hi everyone, Going to my breeder tomorrow, she has a little 9 month old boy for me - hopefully he will fall in love with me. Oscar just passed January 31st (10 years old) and I miss him terribly, can’t wait to hold this little guy and love him to bits. It’s been a while since bringing home Oscar, he was 12 months at the time – and my first dog. So I want to make sure I am prepared. Going to bring a blanket and toy, car seat, harness and leash, as well a crate (which I have to pick up today) in case he wants to ride in that. However, what else might I need for his first days (I am picking up a playpen tonight, to put his crate and pee pad in). I have most things from Oscar, but maybe you might have new suggestions. Also, is there anything I should remember to ask the breeder? Eating schedule, sleeping, etc. etc. I also have to come up with a name for him too - which will be fun! Oscar was named already – and it was the perfect name for him. Thank you, Jacalyn |
Youll need a brush and a comb. Some puppy shampoo( I used puppy tearless) A food and water bowl and pee pads. It is good to find out what the breeder is feeding him and try to get that food and change over later if you want. It is good to find out sleeping habits. You can find out how the pup does being confined. {My breeder let me know my girl didnt like to be confined so I was able to better prepare} Good luck with your new furbaby |
Congratulations on your new baby! It sounds like you have most everything. Welcome to YT!! :) |

That is so great that you are getting a new puppy :p Best of luck I'm sure he'll fall in love with you as much as you do for him |
Congrats. I adopted a 10 month old 3 wks ago and it has gone just great. Good luck with your little guy. Sullie was neutered today and had 4 baby teeth pulled. Connie |
Okay, just back from the breeder - and she had three for us to look at (boy I wish I could have all three). 1. 1 Year Old (minus two weeks), 3lbs 14ozs - very bubbly, came to the door and jumped side to side when we arrived. 2. 9 Month Old (in two weeks), 3lbs 7ozs - very shy and timid (kind of reminded me of Oscar - which I'm not sure is good) but kind of drawn to him because I felt sorry for him being shy. 3. 7 Week Old (can't have him until end of March), 1lbs 7ozs - okay I don't think I have to say anything here - he's a puppy which makes him adorable. Pricing varies from each dog - #2 is $200 more than #1, and #3 is $700 more than #1. She is the same breeder as my Oscar, so I know I am getting a beautiful dog. My head (and heart too) is saying #1, he is adorable. Hubby isn't saying much - I going there just made him miss Oscar more. Any suggestions? |
I would go with #1. He just sounds like hes got a good personality |
congratulations on your new baby!! I would go with #1 too. He sounds like he will have a great personality and keep you entertained. Why don't you get #1 AND #2!! :D I would also add a belly band to make sure he doesn't mark your house when you arrive. I personally would have him neutered asap and get any baby teeth removed. Good luck!! Keep us posted and take LOTS of pictures!!! |
I would go with number 1 exspecialy if your heart is saying you should go with that one. |
1 Attachment(s) Not sure if his image will be attached... |
Thanks for the pee band suggestion, was wondering about that - I think I have one from Oscar (which we never used). Do I just go buy maxi pads? |
