Your little Gucci is so freaking cute. Good thing she hasn't seen my Buttons, he's 7.4 lbs. I call him "waddle butt" but he's mine and I love him no matter how BIG he is.

I've checked everywhere.....Does AKC give size other then weight standards? Most other breeds have body length standands as well???

All Ive seen are weight standards

I just looked it up and they say what type of body type it should be but not length.

I think too many people judge Yorkies by their "Size" that they completely ignore their Conformation? Temperment? Training? Socializing? I have alot of Friends and Relatives that have Yorkies and they purchased them strictly based on their "SIZE" and they are very disappointed b/c they did NOT stay the size as promised by the Breeder.
I completely agree...so many are so obsessed with size that they don't look into health, conformation, and temperment. Health is number 1 to me and conformation and temperment are also important. Size is just size, and I personally prefer a 5-7lb yorkie as they are usually more conformationally correct than most super tiny ones.

I had a person one time say that Lacy looked big, and she did compared to their 3lber. However, their 3lber had also just had surgery for a liver shunt...so that's probably why she stayed so small.

I too have been on the receiving end of rude ignorant idiots far too many times...i'm tired of this size competition...:thumbdown

People can be just as rude about the little ones..she seems to be a source of amusement everywhere we go with her..people will point and laugh and call her names like Rat or rodent..and laugh because she has a topknot!:confused: it can get very tiresome at times:rolleyes:..although she does get alot of compliments too and people will say how pretty she is..which is nice!

teresa :lol tears .... trust me, anyone messes with my (or my friends) kids, there will be a price to pay :D ... i am just that kind of mom lol

i have been asked quite a few times if my kids are the dreaded "t" word...i just politely say, they are yorkies - just on the smaller side :) it does kind of annoy me when someone will come up to me and ask if they are teacups, and look at their dog with kind of a disgusted (for lack of a better word right now lol) look and tell me their dog was SUPPOSED to be a teacup :rolleyes: ... i just always say their dogs are adorable .. makes me sad they do not seem content or happy with their dog :( :thumbdown

oh okay..yeah i guess people can be rude about anything. I just ignore people that seem to think it's strange or funny that my dogs are dressed, in a stroller, have a bow, etc....i usually think they are the ones that look stupid because of the dumb looks on their faces LOL.

The other day in the park Thor met another terrier. I asked his owner if it was a yorkie and he huffily said, no it's a Norwich Terrier, it would have to be on steroids to be a yorkie! Because you know, Norwich Terriers are sooooooo enormous. :rolleyes: He just looked like a fat yorkie to me!

I realized later it was the same man who was so rude about Thor's petite size a few weeks ago. The dog was cute though, much cuter than his owner.

Well I think your baby is as precious as can be!!! Don't worry about ignorant people that say otherwise.. I just WISH that people could understand that ALL DOGS are beautiful and ALL people have feelings!! It really erks me that they don't.

When I take Chloe with me people tend to act as if I've dropped IQ points. I must be vain , shallow , and ditsy simply because I have a tiny dog ..... and Lord help me if I'm buying a sweater or pj's for her :rolleyes: oh , the looks :p

My sister even suggested that he wasn't a yorkie but a silky because they are bigger than yorkies. Makes me mad!! Yogurt can take down her tiny " teacup" anytime physically and in cuteness!! Arggh sry I'm venting

I hear that all the time too... or I hear, "that one's a yorkie, what is that dog?" and when I say he's a yorkie "Oh really? He doesn't look like one". It is possible that Smokey is mixed with something since he was in a puppy mill and is a rescue baby, but until I figure it out, he's a yorkie!

I thought the Yorkie standard just said "should not exceed seven pounds"? :confused:

The Maltese standard is the one that says " weight under 7 pounds, with from 4 to 6 pounds preferred". I wish the Yorkie standard was written that way. It would discourage the deliberate breeding of super tinies.

Anyone who thinks a 5.5 lb. dog is big should have their eyes examined!
