wow, that is so sad. Here in Delaware it is not a law, they ask if you would like to get your dog chipped. It is sucha simple thing to do, they must of really did something wrong. Poor baby... :(:(

I don't like microchips myself, I was the one who held my sons GSD while she was implanted and she looked me in the eye as it was implanted and her eyes went blood shot! I will never forget the look of pain in her eyes as she is looking at me. :(
She is a big girl I can't imagine how the little dogs feel while they are being implanted and its totally not natural. I myself do not want microchipped.
Next thing you know they will mandate that we are microchipped.
Key thing here to me is having the right to have a choice of wether you want it done or not to your pet.

That is what I am thinking. It's almost hard to believe that a dog would bleed like that from a microchip. None of my pets had any bleeding and rylie was just chipped Saturday without reacting at all. The chip was either implanted wrong which would still be difficult to do that much damage. The dog must have had an artery in an abnormal place.

Great post! I have always had my animals microchipped, including teeny baby ferrets. I've never encountered a problem! The percentage of problems must be minor in comparison to the amount of successes otherwise we would have heard about it. I realize there are probably lots of stories like this but we rarely hear about successful cases because no-one wants to report about them:rolleyes: Obviously this particular microchip went more than skin deep and if I were the owner I would most certainly be holding the vet responsible!!!

Oh, Goodness, I am glad I didn't hear that story before my April was done. They inserted her chip when she was under being spayed. Everyone, including the vet said that I should have it done. I am glad I did now, but I wouldn't have if I heard about that first. But my daughter was so nervous having her Golden Retriever nuerted because her friend told her of a case where she new the lady, she had her Goldennuerted and they gave him to much anasthega and he died,so I guess anything can happen, just make sure you have trust in your vet.

I wish everyday that I would have micro-chipped my two Skye Terriers which were stolen out of a handlers house. Maybe I would have them home by now. Although I do not think that micro-chipping should be mandatory/government regulated, I think its a good idea for the safety of the pet.

Deana, I completely agree with you. It is so sad what happened to that poor little dog. Here is another sad story about a dog that got an implant:

Also the FDA apparently has approved microchips for humans but after doctors found out the microchips were causing cancer in lab animals they decided again pushing them for human use.

I have had all my girls chipped when they were spayed. I would NEVER do it when they were awake. I have seen it done to big dogs and it must REALLY hurt. That needle is HUGE to insert that grain of rice. Kissy will be chipped if she is ever put out for any reason but not until then.
Yep! My vet only microchipped Jax when he had some teeth pulled & was put out, otherwise he said it is too painful for the little thin skinned babies.

Something I'm sure most people don't understand is that studies done on rats concerning tumors don't really apply to humans or other animal. Rats are notorious tumor makers, you can inject them with water and a tumor can develop. While we can learn much about the development of tumors while studying rats, not all the information applies across species, and the only thing this study would suggest is that, if you microchip your rat, he might develop a tumor around it. You can't take a sentence from this or that study and understand something, you have to be able to read the whole study, the author should always discuss the other things that would cause the same effect, and if he doesn't, he's not following the rules of good scientific testing.

That is so sad :( if that were my dog and this happened I would not be so forgiving towards the vet :( I am not in favor of this being mandatory either. thankfully it is not where I live in CA. :aimeeyork

I agree that there is not as great of a risk with the dogs but my concern is that all the things we are doing to our pets is causing so many health issues that most people are not even aware of. Between the over vaccination, heart worm meds, flea meds, microchips, poor dog food, spaying and neutering it is no wonder we are seeing so many health issues. The problem is not just with our pets but with us humans too. I feel that the drug companies are too quick to get out a new vaccination or drug approved by the FDA and before you know it is being recalled because people are getting sick or dieing. I know many of these things are necessary but it seems like you fix one problem only to create another because of side effects.

I think for the most part microchips are probably safe but I just don't think people should be forced to get them.
