Can Yorkies Swim??? I have been wondering this for some time. Snickers hates his baths but he tolerates them b/c he loves being clean afterward, but have been wondering if he would be able to swim in water if he ever needed to. -Vivian:animal-pa |
Wookie:aimeeyork can but he doesn't like it. I used to put him in the pool with me and he would immediately swim to the side and get out. He fell in once from running around the pool and slipped on a wet spot. Another time, he jumped in when my little nephew went under water. I think he was trying to save him. He freaks out whenever someone goes under water and he sees it. That time he dove in after my nephew, I think maybe cause Braeden was so little. I was so proud of my baby! He was going to try and save someone with his little 8 lbs!!! |
Sure they can swim but it's best if they wear a life jacket. |
Yes, they can swim. I have seen cases where a dog has drowned in the pool. The dog may be able to swim but if he has no clue on how to find his way out of the pool he will just tire and drown.....A couple of years ago I had one fall in the pool and he was so startled all he did was frantically paddle in the same spot. If I had not been out there ( which I always am when they are out there) I know he would have tired and drowned.... |
Reese has fallen off our pier more times than I can count...always heart stopping but yes they can swim. And in Reese's case...quite well. |
Brooklyn fell in the pool once (trying to get to us). He definitely swam. :D |
They all can swim, but in the case of or babies, since they have shorter legs, compared to Labradors and such, they get tired very easy, vest and adult supervision is highly recommended. I also noticed that even in summer, here in Florida, and Max gets cold fast, he much rather play in the sand, than get in the water. |
Being not so lucky to have a swimming pool(not much call for them in the u.k) I was thinking about letting my baby have a go at swimming in the bath, maybe get in with her? Has anyone tried it and how did it go.:animal-pa |
Fiona was 4 months old when I introduced her to my ENTIRE family at our family reunion. We do have a swimming pool at my parents house, and low and behold, Fiona took it upon herself to jump right in, she swam a little, but then her whole body went under, and my cousin had to get her out for me...THANK god she was ok! Yes, LIFE JACKETS are the way to go!!!! |
My boys can swim. We go to the lake every summer and Wylie LOVES to play fetch/swim - for hours on end. Marcel will follow him right in there and off he goes. They don't like the pool as much though. We don't allow them (well, esp. Marcel) to be alone by the pool at all, as they have both fallen in at different times, in front of us. While they can swim, they may not be able to get out. |
My boys swim in the pool all summer! I had to get lifejackets on them because they jump in on their own and get tired out after awhile. Its too cute! I love when they swim! |
Clarence is shaped like a barrel so he swims like a rock. Keegan...now he's a different story. He'll swimm but only because he has falling into the pool or has fallen off the dock while he barking at ducks, or herons or manatees or who know what! |
Can Yorkies Swim? Hello: Sure they can, or at least mine could. I was walking in a park with a stream + ducks in it and I let Nik off the leash to run around. I did not think about the water or her going in it!!! WRONG!!! She went like a rocket and dived in to chase her enemies, the ducks LOL. She swam along with them and I had to get wet and pull out this bedraggled, dripping (with reclaimed water!!!), yorkie and carry her to the car. I had to put her on the floor and wash her immediately when I got home as goodness knows what was in the water. So YES they can swim as I found to my cost. So hang on to them when near water! :aimeeyork |
Swimming! theres an Idea! What a great way to help get rid of their energy. We turn the heater off on our hot tub in the summer and use it as a small pool. I'll have to get them some little life jackets and give it a try this summer. of course they will probably hate it, lol |
