2 Attachment(s) I have 2 boys, they are brothers from the same litter. One has a cotton coat and one has a silky coat. The difference is incredible. My Fletch has a silky coat and the upkeep, maintenance is soooo much easier with him. I can leave his coat longer and it does not matt, plus he turned silver down his back. He is just beautiful! My Dex is SOFT, soooo soooo soft. But his coat matts like crazy, grooming him has to be done very often. I have to leave him in a puppy cut.. anything longer mats too quickly. He did not turn silver at all, he is solid black and tan. I knew Dex was a cotton coat when I got him at 9weeks and Fletch was silky. They are both 3.5 years old now. Here are the pics of them. Fletch first, then Dex. |
2 Attachment(s) I don't know what type of coat Gucci has, I used to say Cotton .. Now I am starting to think it's modified Silk/Cottony. * It doesn't really matt much .. only on his legs when he is in PJ's all day (he likes PJ"s) but the matts come out if brushed the same day and easily. * He is silky and flowy on his head & tail (see photos) it's spikey and rolls with the air and it shines. His head has started to break ALL OVER in color. * His body is thick and wavy, parts down the middle, is easy to brush, BUT it's Duller than the rest of him and is JET BLACK. He matts on the back legs, like said above, but they come out easily. IDK I think he might be a modified coat though  You tell me .. EITHER WAY - I LOVE HIS COAT, it is THICK and So so pretty! He looks like a lil fluff ball and it's not super long either. I am going to try and keep his coat at least the length it is now for his life.. but we shall see because I have heard that cottons are hard to care for .. But they way he is going now I don't know what he'll turn out to be .. a MIX, Silky or Cotton  |
Thanks..... not real sure I am alot closer to deciding but it dos seem like I can achieve that 'puppy' look with either coat in a puppy cut.... it is the head in particular that I was really interested in. I like the fluffy head..... |
I think that, that is a true statement... Most Yorkies can all achieve the fluffy head nicely :p Quote:

I have three Yorkies, all with different kinds of coats. The very thick cottony one is always kept in a short cut. If I got to choose again, I would FOR SURE choose a silky coat. My silky is SO easy to groom and care for. :D FYI.. for any coats but especially cotton I have found that Happy Tails products do absolute wonders!!! The Bubbles and Beads shampoo/conditioner is great and the Fur Butter is too. My dogs coats brightened up and were marvelous looking after using their shampoo and I didn't even need an extra conditoner or grooming product which, for two of my dogs, is amazing.:) |
My two males are cotton coats. I have to brush them everyday to keep their hair long without mats. My female has great hair. I brush her 2 times a week and she never has mats. |
Both my girls are silky coated, do not mat and only require a good brushing a couple times a week. The only drawback is the hair on top their heads is thin and so they don't have a nice full topknot. They are still puppies so I am hoping their hair will thicken up on top their little heads. |
Thor has a silky coat. I keep him in a puppy cut. If you are interested, you can take a look at the album in my profile, since that has a lot of pictures of his face -- you can decide if it's fluffy enough for you. :) Thor's coat almost never matts. However, I agree with you that the cottony ones are really cute. I would think you might get a better price on a cotton coat as well, since that is not the standard? I'm not sure. |
