I thought those Rescues listed above were really good and would help any yorkie in need - this is so disheartening....:mad:

In the meantime, I am a part of a email animal-distribution list, and I forwarded a Pleading Email for help for this little girl :(

I am so sad....

Just got this PM from her:

These people are NOT friendly and are NOT punctual on getting back to you.
I have been waiting ALL day and I just got a little more info.

She was brought in on January 23.
She was hit by a car.
She will be loosing her left eye.
She is currently at the shelter now.

I have a call into the rescue coordinator, so I will update you as soon as I know more!

I am going to call Rescue Me now.

It is breaking my heart too! :( I'm way to far away to get her so we have to depend on a rescue in that area to step up and help. Let's wait and see we hear anyone. If she was in a state that I could drive to within a few hours she would be safe right now. :(

Any news.......I could have my daughter go get her but there is no way she could keep her. She is in Medical School and no time for a pup...Let me know if you need me to contact her. She lives in Bethesda...Let me know I may not hear back from her right away but if we can help....

Looks like SAY Rescue is going to take her. I talked to the president today and told her if she didn't have a foster to take care of her we would get together on this forum and take up a collection or do something but we were getting her out one way or the other. The shelter called me back this afternoon but they didn't say anything about her being hit by a car. She told me that she was found like that as a stray. Anyway here is the email that just went out to SAY rescue members:

"Need a Foster Home URGENT
We were asked to take a dog from the Prince George's Shelter in MD. She is 6 lbs, 6 years old, very friendly. She has a severely damaged eye and maybe a mammary tumor. I am calling her Petal. I need a good foster home with a reasonable vet who can remove her eye, spay her and remove the tumor. She will need to be picked up, if possible on Saturday before 4 pm. I am attaching her picture. She looks so beat up. I have at least 4 others who are coming in too. 1. Lily from Cranbery2. Button3. Nicky4. Lily from Twin Tier"
I will keep you updated if I hear anything else.

I would have to talk with my hubby but what is needed to get this poor little one out of there and safe? Money is a little tight right now so I couldn't really do a whole lot but I can offer to foster her for a short while but I would need to make sure hubby is okay with it. It shouldn't be a problem but I would need to make sure first. Does anyone know what is next?

I have also put out word "on the street" - I have someone from justatouchrescue.com that can take her, but they only have foster homes in RI and MA - the problem is we would need to get her transport.

Please let me know if it goes thru with SAY rescue, as I have justatouchrescue.com on hold right now :)

You have to go through a whole process to foster. Interview, references, vet checks, home visit... They are very strict. No one with children, not even if you have small grandchildren that don't live with you.

Are we talking needing a foster for awhile or until a rescue will take her? I think that we would have not problem fitting into being able to foster as we are empty nesters and have a steady vet and a couple of good friends who work for a cat rescue that can vouch for us. I can certainly offer to do what I can, be it foster for a short while until things get situated or for transport. Just let me if this will help.

I just meant through a rescue. There is a whole procedure that you have to go through and be approved, just like if you were adopting. That is so very nice of you to offer. As far as I know the rescue is picking her up tomorrow before 4. She put out the email for people in their rescue group.
I think Hot Rod is adorable, he always makes me smile.

If she needs to be housed for a couple days and can handle being around two other yorkies, I'd be willing to have her here, I just can't keep her.

PLEASE let me know if SAY rescue gets her...

I have justatouchrescue that WILL also take her and get her the medical care needed, we would just have to get her up to MA or RI - They have a great Vet up there and 'she' is just the kind that they take in :)

Awww,thank you. Just let me know if there is anything that I can do should plans change or anything. I hope she is okay.

From what I understand so far she is in urgent need of medical care and she will be picked up before 4 tomorrow from the rescue. I will post immediately if I hear any more news.
I am so happy she is going to get help.

ok...that is good - my gosh, I will be so relieved to hear that she is out of that cold and lonely shelter...this has been some story, but I am sure that *hers* is far more of a nightmare...poor baby girl :(

I am at the tail end of this. Someone had contacted me about this pup and I did send an email to Yorkie Rescue Me but did not receive a reply. I had hoped someone would have pulled her by now.
Yorkie Haven Rescue will take her IF someone can pull her and help us get her to me in the Houston area.
I noted that someone has a relative in MD. If all of you can pull together to get her here, she has a rescue that will care for her.
I wish we had more to offer, but we do not have any members in that area.

I do have to say, all of you people that are posting in this thread are such kind hearted individuals. I love that you all care so much, and are doing everything you can to help.

Oh my goodness..I'm just now seeing this....so sad. That place is not the best and I never like going there...That shelter is only like 30 mins from me...I see the ball is already rolling but if there's anything I can do also, I'm here. Unfortunately, that mean place wouldn't let me have any dogs since I have an 8 year old....I can assure you my 8 year old would take better care than she or any dog for that matter, is getting there...that makes me so mad...

Anyway, I'm in MD also so if there's anything..I will do what I can to help!

You are an angel ;) - From what I gather...SAY Rescue (which I think is Save a Yorkie ???) - will pull her tomorrow.

I have also been contaced by Just a Touch Rescue that will also take her, but we need to get her up to RI or MA

...so I think between all the wonderful rescues willing to take her and the handful of MD folks, we will get her safe - soon :thumbup:

I surely hope that they are pulling her. Please, if you hear otherwise, let me know.
Someone I know told me that one of the rescues will not take her because they are afraid they will be stuck with her as a forever foster. I hope that is not true, but can only say that we will take her in, no matter what. While some rescues do have policies like that, YHR does not. We take them as they come and do not believe that any pup is unadoptable. We actually got rid of our furever ours program for that reason. While they may end up staying with us forever, they are still up for adoption just in case the right home comes along. There are many loving people out there that love the seniors and the sick pups as well!

...well....I truly hope she is being pulled tomorrow :( - That is very sad that a rescue would not pull her b/c of that :( I really hope it is not a Yorkie Rescue is this area, as that would be heartbreaking to know that. :mad:

I was personally contact by Just a Touch who WILL take her in a heart beat. She is 'just the kind of rescue' that they 'specialize' in. They would have Vet care for her ASAP - but like I said, we would need someone in MD to pull her, and then we need to get transport up to New England.

I am really going to be praying hard tonight for this baby girl.

YHR also takes in the pups with special needs. We have excellent veterinary services here in the Houston area, including a great eye clinic. So...if one of the rescues in the MD area cannot take her in, we can...or the group you are referring to. Probably would come down to the easiest to transport to.
I am also praying for her...she needs to be out of the shelter!

Sounds like we need a yorkie train! TLC when you find out what is going on in the morning let us know and I'm pretty sure there will be help to get her were she needs to go. :)

I really hope she gets out of there soon. I will do what I can to help with transport or whatever because I am in MD. I can't take her ( I am guessing) to foster because I have young kids that are here a couple times a week , and other animals and from what I am hearing thats a no-no. But I will do what I can to help however needed. I just hope the SAY rescue takes her in ! She looks so lost and sad ...she needs love and a forever home right now !!!!!

That is not true that you cannot foster if there are children or animals! PM me if you want information regarding fostering.
Rescues do have certain procedures and you normally have to complete an application and have a vet check, reference checks and a home visit with most rescues. Everything is weighed carefully...there is no blanket no to anything.
